Has to be reliable, cheep to fix, economical and also a great car in manual and automatic
Portuguese person here...we pay insurance, but is like 70% cheaper than it is in the UK. And it's more based in the car you drive rather than the driver. You're welcome

When he says cars are more expensive he means more than double the price
Cars are heavily taxed in Portugal...however we can import them and save some euros. But still rather expensive to register the imported car in Portugal but in all cheaper then buying the car directly there and the price of insurance is equal to any other car.
In the majority of the times unless you work in other country you end up paying almost the same or more for a car if you buy it abroad, due to the cost of the register in a portuguese number plate, and that without having in acount the price of going to the other country

Reminds me of that one kid that rode Kingda Ka (fastest roller coaster in America; tallest in the world) who hit a pigeon at 120mph, leaving nasty bruising on his face; said he'd ride it again. 👌

In the autumn I was working on a farm. To check all the different enclosures we use a quad bike (Honda Foreman 520). I came out of a narrow path onto the road and sped up to about 60kmph when a conker (still in the green spikey skin) fell out of a tree hitting me directly in the face drawing blood. So its not just pigeons you have to look out for! Stay safe. Love the podcast!

In Portugal we pay insurance but it's way cheaper than in the UK. Also it's for the car not its driver , in the way that family members can drive it with the same insurance.
Small bits of black gaffa tape, lay those cables flat and neat. For the best solution use proper cable management.. some raceways that are meant for under the table can be use on top of it too, all you need is a a black plastic rectangular tube that takes cables from one side of the table to the other, two sided tape to keep it flush against the table. Velcro the cable to the base of the stand, this makes it look better but also makes any yank from the cable to be against the stand, not against the mic.
And no, you can't 3D print a vinyl. You can print something that almost looks like one.

In 2006 I knew a guy who came back from Afganistan where he worked security, it was a very dangerous job, but it paid really well. One of the first things he bought when he came back was a brand new black Honda CBR 1000RR, it was a beautiful bike. At the time I had a 1988 250cc Honda NSR and I used to joke about stealing his bike. Long story short, one day he went out on a high speed run with the MC club and he hit a dove at about 300km/h and it broke his neck, he then hit the guard rail, it was not pretty and very, very sad. He left behid a wife and a daughter. Imagine surviving Afganistan and then die in a motorcycle accident...... Be very careful while riding, unexpected things happen at unexpected times.
Reminds me of a story from the development of the intercity 125 train in the 70’s.
They needed to test that the cab could withstand a bird strike at top speed (125 mph Ethan).
To do this they borrowed a special air cannon from Rolls Royce which was used to fire chickens into jet engines.
For the first test they set the cannon to fire the chicken at 100mph. The cab section was totally destroyed. They then tried again at 70mph with the same result.
Not wanting to waste to many cab sections they then invited the Rolls Royce engineers down to advise how best to reinforce them.
Come the day it was all set up for the full 125 mph. The high speed cameras were rolling so the failure of the cab could be analysed in full slow mo.
The BR (British Rail Ethan) engineers were about to fire the chicken when one of the RR engineers shouted..............
“Guys did you remember to defrost the chicken?”

if you are inquiring about a car in a advert make a copy of that advert and keep it, for reference, my nephew bought his first car add said 1 month warranty it broke in a fortnight. call to the garage he got told it was " sold as seen " from one of the owners, and not the one doing the deal, the add was deleted from the web i think in seconds of him leaving the office after the "hold out yer hand" bit was done. so no proof of original advert and agreement and they would refuse to help or acknowledge the problem, also the add said something like 3 owners but on receiving the V5 it had 7, amongst other issues, it would appear the brothers the owners played some sorta blame game tag team of deceit to wiggle out of problems that garage didn't last long , good luck

Yes Gareth! Bodge jobs. I’m restoring a 1980 mini clubman for my first car and I can say the amount of Bodges on the car are insane! The boot floor had rusted away, someone had just put fresh steel over it without removing any of the rust. That panel had then rusted away so someone else had put 6mm thick steel plate across the back of the boot and then covered it in under seal to hide it.
I’ve sorted it now with a new repair panel from the correct grade steel. But god all mighty what moron would do that?

A friend of mine used to ride with just a skull cap. He switched to a full face helmet after hitting a june bug at 55 MPH. It took a chunk from his forehead. For those who have not visited the Eastern US, a june bug is a gold colored beetle that is nearly indestructible.

On the pigeon front, my dad used to go on rides with my uncle and their friend. Not sure of the bikes - A Hayabusa, A Kawasaki Ninja and a Honda something or other. The Ninja was my uncle's and brand new - so they all swapped round to give it a test. At full speed along a dual carriageway a pheasant flew straight into his helmet. After wobbling to a blind stop, my dad looked down to see the blue fuel tank covered in blood - not knowing whether it was his of not.
The result was a smashed visor, broken glasses, two black eyes and a broken nose.
The pheasant had been smashed into at least three main chunks. These were collected up and turned into a pie!
The new CX-5s are nice. A family member got one recently. The Touring (or whatever) spec interior is super classy, and the Skyactiv engine makes a solid noise and is pokey enough to stand your ground in the outside lane.

i remember my dad having a Fiat Coupe around 1998 in Blue (Alex) When my sister was born (Third Child) he actually tried installing a 3rd lap belt to keep it, but when the car seat wouldn't fit it had to go. He once told me the turbo was so aggressive overtaking was like learning again. Instead of accelerating and then pulling out to pass as you approach, it is a case of pull out then accelerate as so many where written off for rear ending people trying to overtake haha This was also a sad year as my mum got rid of her Alfa Romeo 155, I was only 8 and devastated.
I gotta bring it up again but, Mike Brewer's a genuine Lad for lending you his workshop all this time

About 10 years ago I was down by Whitley Bay Lighthouse, between the 2 car parks (if anyone knows the place). Saw a bunch of seagulls in the middle of the road, hit the horn to scatter them so something didn't get pancaked, and got smacked right in the face and knocked off the bike by one of the wee bastards who couldn't understand how to fly away. They breed them strong in the North East, that they do.

On Roundabouts, I've just moved to coventry, and there are roundabouts with traffic lights on them, but not all of them are active all the time, meaning you come to a roundabout, and you have a green light, and inside the roundabout, there is a set of traffic lights looking at you that are turned off..so you think, great green light time to go. But then you realise all the cars that are already on the roundabout essentially have a green light because all the lights on it are turned off. Meaning when you come to the roundabout, despite the light being green, you have to slow down, and often when youre on the roundabout people fly out because their light was green and then throw their hands up at you despite the fact you had right of way. Its honestly as stupid as it sounds and i try to avoid these roundabouts because i dont want someone smashing into my car because their light was green.
I used to ride bikes as my only form of transport, for about 25 years. I collected several pigeons along the way, they have a habit of hiding disguised as road surface and taking off into your path. Believe it or not I had a peacock run into my front wheel, bloody massive thing it was. The only damage to my bike was a loosened front brake banjo, poor bird died straight away. I have also had pheasants fly into me, they leave quite a bruise.
Being in a car isn’t any safer, I’ve lost a headlamp to a pheasant, and a fog light and radiator to a hare. Trouble with wildlife is it has a mind of its own...

Wood pigeons are a nightmare at early hours travelling to work. Used to do a 45 min ride to work on my 750 srad and there so dumb they fly away last minute but towards you. Had headbutt one at 50mph before. Not the worst one though. When was 17 had a gpz500s and rode from work in the afternoon on some back roads going a little bit fast on my parallel twin I hit a pheasant with my chest, it smashed though my screen and as it few acrossed and clip it with my chest and winded me throw my hand off the bar went up the bank a little and luckily laid it on it side at a very low speed not a scratch but a huge massive pheasant shaped bruse and trip to hospital two broken ribs.... plenty of riding story's as used to ride daily for 9 years snow, rain and sun 😀
Saying about asking questions that they have already answered on the advert, I have been caught out with that. Advert said 'MOT 9 Month.' And after paying for the car and getting it home, I found out it only had a months MOT on it. I went back to sort it out, and I was told that the advert was correct. The MOT ran out in the 9th month. I bought it in August. As I was only 19 at the time, I took it on the chin not realising they conned me. (This was 25 years ago. Online MOT checks were not around back then.)
So now, I always double check what the advert says and check the paperwork and numbers.
my main vehicle is a motorcycle and i started watching when you did the commuter challenge with the Honda monkey, gotten into the channel since then (still not fully into cars though) I ride with an open face helmet and I've had small rocks or hail hit me in the face while on the motorway. in all good fun of course
