PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL GANG SO THE CARTEL WILL COME TO YOUR TOWN. Absolutely not. The ARA and SCCA are bad enough, I don't need the FIA to further ruin my motorsport.
The WRC was pushed heavily on Speedvision in the late 90s and early 2000's, but the audience, while passionate, was small. But if Speedvision hadn't pushed it, we may never have gotten the WRX or the Evo.
I remember those days, it was high school and college era for me. Speedvision with WRC and Le Mans, the "talk show" with Dave Despain, and the narrative shows with Bob Varsha.
I’m from Croatia,we were lucky to host wrc for the third time this year. It is fantastic to see this cars flying through narrow roads, with spectators near road. WRC needs to be in USA 100%.
Visited Croatia a few years ago, sadly before you hosted WRC. Amazing country, and the race has been pretty awesome outside the death of Craig Breen this year
If youre a Motorsport enthusiast, you need to see WRC atleast once in your life. Honestly, it will blow your mind. As a someone from Finland, i've seen many rally events including the legendary Finnish WRC in Jyväskylä. Ouninpohja with the yellow houses jumps is truly one of the most amazing things i've ever experienced.
ARA rally is pretty awesome if you are near an event. Not nearly as many WRC level cars but they are there along with a whole bunch of privateers. Unfortunately it gets no coverage at all even local tv never mentions any events.
Travis Pastrana, who was already driving for Subaru, came to Mexico years ago to witness his first WRC event. We sat down to talk after the first day and he couldn’t believe what was going on. He stuttered and smiled and just kept saying “this is the most exciting thing I’ve ever seen “. It is. Speaking as a rally driver and as part of this world I salute and pray for the US to join this amazing family.
I saw a video, after he died, where Ken Block was racing in a series with a track in both Minnesota and Michigan. I don't remember if there was snow though.
There is an fall ARA event in the UP of Michigan around the Marquette area. I tried to get people interested in bringing it to Northern Wi near Lake Superior clear back in 1989. Every business thought it was a good idea, but no one wanted to put in the effort. Not sure if these days the National Forrest, the state DNR and enviromental groups would sign off on it. There are small stock car racing tracks in northern Wi and Mn but they are on private land and have been around for almost 60 years.
@@57WillysCJit would be tough because Minnesota wisconsin and Michigan have some of the only untouched forests near and around those areas so the DNR doesn't want you know this many people coming up and then going and trashing nearby areas
Thanks to Ken Block’s passion for rally racing, I got into following ARA. But it’s lack of coverage made it challenging. I’ve been actively following WRC and ERC for almost a year now and knowing the infrastructure and support that is needed to run a world class rally event makes this look very daunting. WRC and FIA know that they have to be here to build their fan base. It’s going to be interesting to see how this comes to fruition.
If you're in the US and you think you'll like rally, find an event near you on the ARA or NASA calendar and volunteer for it. Events are always in need of help from course marshals and time control people all the way to ham radio operators and first responders. Time controls are probably the best way to talk to teams directly. As a time control worker, even the top level drivers and codrivers need to go through YOU to get their time cards filled out! And you can potentially save a life if someone forgets to hook up their safety devices before dropping the clutch.
We’ve been trying in vein for years to get the WRC to come to Canada as well. It’s not like we’re strapped for open spaces or vacant country roads lol.
As a Polk County resident, I, like many others, can't wait for this to happen. Growing up in the woods of northern Michigan and watching WRC on Speedvision instilled a love of rally racing.
I lived in Cleveland Tennessee in 2005 and saw a half dozen full livery EVO 5s and 6s filling up at a gas station and it was those events he mentioned. We camped out in Polk county and watched the rally. It was an amazing experience. I still live in the area and would love to see this happen!
Places where the WRC can hold races in America: -Grand Canyon, Arizona -El Capitan, California -The Rockies, Utah and Colorado -Mojave Desert, Nevada -Pacific Northwest, Washington State and Oregon -The Appalachian Mountains, Eastern US
I used to follow the WRC back in the days on SpeedTV, along with F1. If F1 can gain so much traction in the US, i don't see why the WRC won't be able to follow suit. It just needs the right exposure and marketing.
Chattanooga is in a nice central location. It's half way between Atlanta and Nashville, and within a 12 hour drive of a lot of other Eastern cities, like Chicago, New York, and Miami.
WRC has been running for many years here in Mexico, Ken Block loved the event, and if @vinwiki wants good stories about rally Mexico they should have Bill Caswell to talk about his infamous $500 Craigslist e30 BMW rally car
American here, born and raised in Sebring Florida(where Lemans does 12 hours) and all I can say, is Rally racing is probably the most skilled form of racing in the entire world! I mean, basically its an improv...
as a native of Tennessee and someone who has fell head over heels with the wild world of rally racing, I pray it sticks. Tennessee could use the boost in sales as well as show off the vast diverse landscape that is our beautful state. I would absolutely go nuts to see a toyota GR Yaris rally car zooming down the tight and techinall gravel trails of eastern Tennessee at full bore. a bunch of amazing hunting preserves that almost lay abandoned throughout Tennessee and miles and miles of gravel road sets up a wonderfull idea for different stages along the way.
Wow! I gave up on the USA being a WRC location some time ago.. It never made sense to me that there is no WRC USA Event, there are so many great locations in the country, would love to hear your thoughts on doing a Colorado Rally with Pikes Peak as the last stage!
I get to drive on (former) WRC stage roads every day in the USA. The world of media is in a far different place than when WRC Olympus Rally last raced here (near Tacoma, WA) in 1988. Best of luck! Love your passion for rally.
I was a volunteer for the first sort of test run they did a couple of months ago and it was great. I can not wait to volunteer again and see where this will go!
Part of the issue with bringing the WRC to the US from an OEM’s perspective is they use WRC to get brand recognition and thus sell more cars and many of those cars aren’t even sold as normal models here in the states. Imagine if we got the i20 N here or the Puma.
The blue ridge parkway and skyline drive between NC and VA would be perfect. The parkway is now paved, but there are sections of the old parkway that runs along beside it that are not paved. Would love to see this come to our area
I really think that my area is well-suited to rally racing. I live in NY State between Buffalo and Rochester and we have plenty of scenic backroads ranging from rolling hills, to woodlands, to marshes. Plus, we have Letchworth State Park which conveinently has a curvy, tight road all the way down the west side of the park I think would be great for rally stages.
hm, a state park you want to race in, but i just remembered, you drive in there anyway, here you would be arrested if you try to enter our parks with a car or motorbike!
I'd love to see the WRC back at the Olympus Rally, but just because WRC isn't in America, doesn't mean rally is dead in America. If you want bigger events, support the ones we have. Support ARA
I remember seeing them here on the peninsula as a kid. Same forest I grew up in and came back to, to raise a family. Wish Olympus was still here in Quinault and north river but Shelton isn't far. Hell, we drive to Oregon for Oregon Trail Rally... 😂
I highly recommend watching Easier Said Than Done. It's a documentary on an American rally team competing in the WRC. It's from 2013, but still worth it. I hope they get better funding than these guys had, because it seemed to be a struggle all the way.
I'm all for a bigger WRC/Rally audience in the USA, but I have an issue... WRC is most unique, because out of all of the top tier disciplines of motorsport, it is by far the most diverse and international, it really bears well its name of World Rally Championship. I mean, where else can you find top events organised in Finland, Kenya, Chile, Estonia, Croatia? Those are not countries with a long list of famous raceways, or prestigious automotive brands, but still there are top rallies there. My fear is that we might be going down the same route as Formula 1 did: it first diversified in the past in emerging/newly developed countries, (though that always felt that they were going where the economy was really emerging, like an investment firm --Malaysia, Singapore, Qatar, EAU, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, etc.- whereas the WRC is much more accessible to all the people). Now that F1 has gained back popularity in the US, it's dropping both exciting new events in emerging countries and historical Grand Prix, just to have more weekends in the US (in Miami and Las Vegas, doesn't feel much more 'entertainment' and less 'meaningful racing' than that). Although I'm happy more Americans get to experience F1, it just feels like an easy cash grab for F1, and it makes it just that much more elitist as a sport. Since WRC has always been more raw and honest than F1, I wouldn't want it to go a similar path, ditching those Rallies where the local population is so elated to finally have a world class event, just to give it to the US, who has already sooo much motorsport happening there. Of course, none of what I just said goes against local US rallies. You guys are doing a beautiful job, and the growing popularity of rally in the US should come through a renewed interest in local rallies.
Nice! We need motorsports back in as many ways as possible, and rally has been sorely lacking. Tennessee also needs a win these days. Half my childhood was spent in K-ville, so I know the tidal forces raging there. Good luck and I'm rooting for you!!
I remember WRC being here in Washington when I was a kid. Been attending rallies my whole life. Olympus Rally and Oregon Trail Rally were great this year. Definitely will travel to Tennessee for WRC! My wife is hard core, our son is wanting to co-drive next season and our young daughter is an up an coming driver
I’m lucky enough to live close to the 100 acre woods rally in Missouri. Definitely the most fun racing event I’ve witnessed, made me a die hard fan. We need the WRC to come here
Rally in the US has unfortunately never gotten good attendance. Even some of the stadium-centric versions that has been attempted couldn't get solid crowds. This is not to say all of it isn't great to watch, there just aren't enough people that care.
A friend actually put forth a development plan while in University to use old logging access roads. Around our area most are in pretty good shape and are solid enough but the state wouldn't move forward, I think it was legal responsibility that they said was why.
Many of the ARA events take place on logging roads, or on state forest land. Some municipalities see the benefit in it and sadly some don't. Next month in Maine/New Hampshire is New England Forest Rally, an ARA national event that is all on old and some still active logging roads. Get up there if you can, it's a blast to watch.
In the 80s I believe, a couple British friends and I attended some WRC(?) rally events in the states of Washington and Oregon. If I remember correctly, many of the stages were on logging roads, but some times portions of the stages were in nearby towns. One stage came down a wide roadway (newly blacked toped, with no markings) that turned left 90 degrees, then right 90 degrees and the cars braked near my friends and I, for the left turn. The residents were amazed, than frightened when a white 380Z, engulfed in tire smoke (brakes) came by mere feet from us, that's when we backed up (also suggested by a female Police officer). ;-)
ARA produces some amazing rally in the states. Just went to my first rally a few weeks ago at the Oregon Trail Rally, and it is AWESOME. Can't wait for WRC to come to the states! I think rally is slowly gaining popularity in the US thanks to Hoonigan, Travis Pastrana, Brandon Semenuk, and people who got into F1, who otherwise weren't into motorsports before, branching out into other disciplines.
I live in New Hampshire and always go to the ARA New England Forest Rally, if the WRC comes to the U.S. in any capacity I will be traveling to see it live.
I'd love to see the WRC on the olympus rally stages out here in Washington, they actually had a Group B event in (I think) 86 and 87 but cancelled it because they couldn't attract a big enough audience back then I could see the potential for 2 WRC events in the US at Olympus and Tennessee I might be a little biased because I live about 45 minutes from the town Olympus is held in, Shelton and the actual stages are in a small town called Matlock
but you know, it would be a advertisement show for none US made cars, even the Fords driving there are made in Germany, because they dont have cup holders as luxury option!
Bring ARA and WRC to Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in middle Tn. Already hosts some of the largest events in TN, AMA amateur nationals motor cross, TN trail jam for off-roading. The ranch is the perfect multi faucet’ed staging point for several legs of gravel/asphalt stages in close proximity. I have had wrx’s while growing up on the ranch so I’ve already got them marked out. Seriously though, despite my bias in the ranch being my family’s legacy, it is perfect for large wrc, ara races.
Anybody that likes the look of WRC should check out the old Group B rally cars. So dangerous they were banned after some really bad crashes. Some of the craziest cars ever made.
People I talk to always seem to assume racing is boring to watch, and clearly they have never seen rally racing. It’s the most exciting Motorsport to watch by far. Every driving technique that looks cool but slows you down in other racing series makes you go faster in rallying. It’s so much more entertaining, and the roads are more interesting as well, plus how many other motorsports have jumps in them? I wish it wasn’t so hard to watch rally races in the U.S., it really feels like we’re missing out.
There's a famous interview with Walther Röhrl (who's considered the best rally driver of all time), from when he participated in the Safari Rally in...I believe it was the 70s. "My codriver, (name), terrific guy, perfectionist, but that one time he skipped a line in his notes. So we didn't know there was a riverbed, and we jumped into the other bank. There was a loud bang, and then the shifter was back there *points towards trunk*. that kinda ruined our chances."
Rally people will travel to watch, 100% I`ve sat literally mid stage, a mile from the nearest access point, in -15*C and have 10 different nationalities walk by. And we all spoke the same language♥🏎
just spectated my first rally event, saw the southern ohio forest rally. the experience in person is unreal! if you can, go to a rally!!! its incredible how much more meaningful the experience is in person.
Same. I was just at OTR a couple weekends ago. The dufur stages are my favorite even if they're dustier than fk😅 I need to make an Olympus trip next year.
best thing you can do with your kids. still remembering the first time my dad took me to the semperit rally in austria back in 1985. i remember it like it was last week. sitting on my dads shoulders and hearing the cars before you can see them. getting louder and louder. i was to young back then to understand anything about it. but i still can feel that excitement my dad and all around us had. especially that one really LOUD white/yellow car that shot flames - today i know was the audi s1. i'm thankful for that memory with my dad and i believe your kids will be too in the future.

One stage came down a wide roadway (newly blacked toped, with no markings) that turned left 90 degrees, then right 90 degrees and the cars braked near my friends and I, for the left turn.
The residents were amazed, than frightened when a white 380Z, engulfed in tire smoke (brakes) came by mere feet from us, that's when we backed up (also suggested by a female Police officer). ;-)
WE ARE HUGE JEFF SEEHORN FANS HERE IN SPOKANE!! #seehornrallyteam

I would love to see WRC in USA. You guys have my support, spiritually at least. Someday I even wish I can do more as well. Greets from Finland
As a Finn and a rally fan I would love to see an american rally.
they have speed limits, above 120kph they need to wear Pampers!
Went to 100 acre wood last year is Missouri. First time to see rally and I loved it.
I have 20 years of experience in Rally in the Northwest. Racing,co-driving, marshaling, time ham etc.
I live in New Hampshire and always go to the ARA New England Forest Rally, if the WRC comes to the U.S. in any capacity I will be traveling to see it live.
I'd love to see the WRC on the olympus rally stages out here in Washington, they actually had a Group B event in (I think) 86 and 87 but cancelled it because they couldn't attract a big enough audience back then
I could see the potential for 2 WRC events in the US at Olympus and Tennessee
I might be a little biased because I live about 45 minutes from the town Olympus is held in, Shelton and the actual stages are in a small town called Matlock
but you know, it would be a advertisement show for none US made cars,
even the Fords driving there are made in Germany, because they dont have cup holders as luxury option!
In 1987 there was a guy shooting at the cars etc.
@Xerdoz Really? That's crazy but it doesn't surprise me.. I wouldn't expect any less out of backwoods Shelton in the 80s
What do I need to do to get involved with this? I have over 20 years experience in Rally
This is what I’ve wanted forever!!!! USA needs this!!!!!
I hope you'll get to enjoy WRC there in the near future! I'd love to see what kinds of stages you guys could set up in the US! Greetings from Finland
As a kid that grew up in southern Oregon, I definitely wrc on the logging roads all the time in the family astro van
Anybody that likes the look of WRC should check out the old Group B rally cars. So dangerous they were banned after some really bad crashes.
Some of the craziest cars ever made.
Look into Idaho! There's dirt roads all through the mountains out here. They span the entire state.
need more factory teams in the ARA first too
I hope this comes to a reality! USA has amazing lands to do some of the best rallies ever.
but their drivers are really shit...
they are used to hit the brake after 400m... and can only drive on roads who are only straight!
1000 acre woods rally is right here in Missouri every year usually right around my birthday in march lol
WRC is fantastic. Love it. What i would love, and apparently im not alone, is that there was more coverage of the American Rally Association(ARA).
I would love to see WRC in the US. I would love to go see it the second year, first year will have issues no matter how well planned.
Love taking my kids to see rally, fortunate we can attend the Oregon Trail Rally and the Olympus Rally :)
@@michaeldelaney4389 It has been so awesome getting out into the woods to watch, We even bought a cowbell! We got to meet Ken Block with his whole family before he passed and we got to meet Travis Pastrana several times. This year we made it about supporting the Block girls, it was so awesome to see Lia out there sending it!!
I had to travel to Switzerland to see the stages their a decade ago. Been dreaming of attending another WRC event.
NEED. I spent a big chunk of my life being involved in desert racing out west, and have a long time but distant love for rally racing, always wished it was more prevalent in the states.
how do we get a grading co to do this in polk county? for up to 100 miles?
I'd drive the 10 hours to Tennessee in a heartbeat to watch WRC!
I'll go watch it
I wrote a book that ends with an amateur rally that crosses the Willamette Valley in Oregon. The sequel is the two protagonists racing in the WRC.
I’m in safety comms as a licensed “ham”…I have done the Idaho rally and I also do the salmon river jet boat races in Riggins Idaho…
I am excited to attend the New England rally this year - first time!
WRC in upstate NY/northern pennsylvania would be INSANELY cool
ARA, SCCA RC, and WRC all need some coverage. I hope this can come to life. If you want help, I have build several things and am willing to help WRC in the USA
Yes yes yes!!! Rally car races are so cool! I’m in Utah and I’d LOVE to see it here!
I will definitely go if they come to the USA. I could drive there in 4 hours. Hell yes bring the WRC.
I just got back from spectating southern ohio forest rally for my second year now, it ks truly incredible
Please include Puerto Rico as part of this. We love Rally and we have a lot of varied terrains
BRILLIANT! Fans Will Come.
Here in the Phoenix area we have plenty of great roads for this type of racing , Here we camp with our SxS in the Tonto in the winter and the Segraves in the summer just miles and miles of fire roads optimal for WRC racing!
Co-driver, pilots fly planes😊
Thanks for the reminder, it’s my European showing.
