    The XCarve is a great hobby machine and I have had a fantastic experience with it. By doing the upgrade, it will give me more height in the z axis and with the next video when I upgrade the x axis risers it will be even better. You have 7” of travel. The XCarve has only a fraction of that. That means larger and thicker projects. In addition, with the stock XCarve the speeds must be slow. That’s ok as a hobby machine but I am using mine more and more for production runs and larger projects requiring tiling. Faster carving times means I can complete jobs faster and do more. The upgrades provide a much more solid machine. That’s the goal.

      Did you order this part also? Spindle mount (recommended for extra short tooling): 69mm (Dewalt 611) Is this different that the router mount ring?

    CONGRATS on two years!!! thanks for your great videos! once mounted how tall is the Z axis hardware with the 269 oz stepper motor fitted from the waste-board ? thanks

  • @mmmmmmm8706
    @mmmmmmm8706 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Congrats, great channel and look forward to the future. Wonder if the bigger stepper motor means you can run carves at higher speeds? I really messed up my z axis by running carves at too high speeds. Had to re assemble it. Now I won't go past recommended settings.

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, bigger stepper motors means you can run carves at higher speeds, HOWEVER, your machine must be able to take the additional pressures placed on it. That is why Inventables only recommends the 140 oz stepper motors.

    Paw Paw, this was very informative. Thank. You for posting this. I do have one question regarding the laser. I installed the JTech laser to the old Z-axis. Does the CNC4Newbies support the JTech laser mount? Thank you.

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, Jtechphotonics is working with me to design a laser mount for it.

      Thank you. I love the options of XCarve and the JTech Laser. The possibilities are endless. Looking forward to your next video.

    Could you elaborate as to why you chose to upgrade? Multiple times you mentioned that you had no issues with the X-Carve. So what did you gain by performing this upgrade? Why should I consider this? More height on the Z axis? More power? I might be willing to spend the $500-$1000 to upgrade the unit if I knew what the benefits were and you felt as if you achieved better results.

      Thank you for the response. In your next video can you go into more detail of the specific parts you upgraded? Visiting the site and I think I know what kits you have but I would like to know the best 'bang for my buck' if I wanted to upgrade.

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I can do that. Also, remember the new z axis has no wheels to wear out and no adjustments necessary.

      It’s also a direct drive, meaning no belts that can stretch over time.

    Did you ever figure out how to mount the stock x carve dust boot? I cant find anything anywhere that shows if people modified the stock boot.

    Hello sir. I appreciate your video and congrats on anniversary. I am following you and upgrading my XCarve. Even C4N recommended your video. Mine didn't come with any instructions or wiring diagrams so I have gotten to where I figured out wiring and directions. But when I jog Z like your video, it just sort of bumps not even a mm and software freezes. Both Pic Sender and Easel. Can you please help with a some tips. Thanks

    Thanks for video. I'm in middle of this upgrade. Few questions. How did you square up the z axis? Which terminals of li it switch we use? Thanks

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The terminal switch that you use on the limit switch is the NO (Normally Open). To square the z axis is use a square and test on both the x and y axis. If necessary use small washers to shim.

      @@PawPawsWorkShop thank you. I saw that in your video. Used square and thankfully they are nice and square out of the box! Also checked calibration using scale and it was good.
