I watched this set on Daru_I-No's live broadcast, and although both Daru and Komekome are amazing, strong players; these matches put on display why Asuka is I-No's best match-up - and also a clear demonstration of Asuka's nerfs in season 4... allow me to explain ( *long post warning* ): With most characters receiving a damage modifier boost, I-No's HP went from 1.06 一> 1.01, which is significant - because now you need more interactions to win against her; meaning, Asuka users will have to expend more Mana when low in order to secure victory than they had to in season 3 - while also being more cognizant of their Mana usage and the spells thrown throughout the round - because Asuka's important spells, save for Arpeggio and auxiliary spells now cost about 1% more to cast than in season 3 - with Bit Shift costing about 5% more. So, without the Mana Regeneration spell (very rare for Case 2 to obtain it), non-Case 3 Asuka players are now fighting an uphill battle of refilling their Mana gauge more frequently, due to the increased Mana consumption needed to cast commonly-used spells, and ASW raising most character's defense modifiers - this impacts Asuka significantly more when facing a high HP character like Bedman? or Potemkin, because the breadth of Asuka's defensive modifier simply does not go as far anymore... for example, Gobou stated that in season 2, Asuka could use about 40% of his HP throughout a round in order to win; in season 4, it is most likely over 50% for average HP characters (defense modifier of 1.0), and even more for high health characters - this is before taking into consideration that most attack spells are more expensive now; so managing your resources (HP and Tension gauge, for example) as Asuka is even more important and costly than before. Think of it a bit like a vehicle that no longer gets as much miles per gallon in comparison to newer cars in the same category. Now, an important point I did not bring up yet is Asuka's defense modifier once his Mana barrier is broken. With the increase in damage to most moves, any good hit from the opponent will most likely spell the end of the round/game, because now Asuka takes an unreasonable amount of damage once the Mana barrier is off; and with I-No, who now has much better damage and conversions than in season 3 - depleting the Mana gauge by 50% or more in one combo is not at all uncommon. Couple this with the fact that STBT now cleanly wins over 6P or aerial spells (if timed right), any combo from 1/2 screen distance leading to a wallbreak/or HKD because of the changes made to Chemical Love; keeping I-No out as Asuka has only become even more difficult than before - while winning against Asuka as I-No has become easier... I would like to mention that season 4 is the weakest Case 2 Asuka has ever been - the inverse - I-No is potentially the strongest she's ever been. That being said, this replay depicts a sequence of nerfs, buffs, and a difference in character strength (tier placement)... while I commend Komekome for sticking with Case 2 Asuka throughout season 4, as you can see in this set, in the words of Gobou, Case 2 Asuka in season 4 simply *"Does not work."* My apologies for the lengthy post, but for those who read it until the very end, know that I appreciate you...
Wait how is Test Case 2 worse than TC3 for this patch? After reviewing my notes I was sure that Test Case 3 was definitely weak due to the significant nerf to Mana Regeneration Cont. Also I like that you pointed out the defense buffs for the other characters I think I might have missed that. I've definitely noticed is a lot harder for me win interactions due to some characters feeling very beefy this patch. And I've started alternating between draining health and Tension depending on the distance, spells available, opponents health, etc. I do feel compelled to use Test Case 2 to pose a threat up close with high low mixes but I switch between 2 and 3 during a match often. While I still have problems with some match ups against characters like Pot, Elphelt, Ky, and Dizzy, I've noticed it's become significantly harder to maintain my mana for my longer combos especially if I drop one for an Oki Setup.
@@daikooooAxl, Slayer, Potemkin, and Johnny are actually even more difficult for Asuka - with Axl being Asuka's hardest match-up in the game... but I-No vs. Asuka is still an incredibly tough match-up for Asuka.
@@waitingforzato-1i-noinguil301 I forgot about Johnny... Mist finer is so stupidly oppressive and fast its crazy. I personally have less problems with Axl, but tbf i dont meet many Axls. Mostly dashblocking and playing defensive until i catch the right moment, then tc2. Defending against him is not as scary as Ino. With Slayer i just OS where i can, but he is still scary to deal with. Pot is too good at destroying cubes plus options to keep me off the ground and off airspace at fullscreen. My personal ranking of hardest to deal with would probably be Johnny>Ino>Pot>Axl but i can definitely see how all of these are a big problem.
@@dragonic22Asuka is a full zoner with decent moves for combos. He isnt a dedicated zoner like lets say Axl or Queen Dizzy. His mana and ability to choose pick or swap cards makes him a bit flexible but forces people to think their moves.
@@yp.m1534Asuka is not a Zoner - he is a setplay character with zoning capabilities; that is why he gains less Mana the farther away he is from the opponent, he is RNG-based, and his cubes are interactable flying hit/hurtboxes. By a fictional character standpoint, I find Asuka cute, and I-No pretty. So they're not in the same category, in my opinion. But this was an interesting topic.
