This is the first video I've watched that actually made me want the Capo. I've seen a bunch of others but none of them have really gone through a bunch of different flavors that it's capable of. Unfortunately, now I want it. I recently recorded an album which cemented that the SVT is not a sound I like for what I do (I did like a V4 for my "default" sound and a B-15 reissue for some specialty sounds), but the Capo is definitely more of what I want to sound like. Please keep putting this stuff out, Philip, because this is exactly what I go to TH-cam for.
I found a secondhand Joyo pedal, an "AC TONE" (Mic'd up Vox AC30 simulator guitar pedal) today going for £21.99. It's based on some kind of clone/analogue technology but it'll get you some fantastic bass tones like on this video for mere pennies 😊
Philip, your videos are very pleasant to watch. It brings a calming mood. Everything has a good taste. I feel the sense of friendship with your bass buddies and I feel welcomed in the comments box and in the emails you reply. I was talking to another friend of mine (also brazilian) about your videos, and we are both a fan!
I'm a nerd like you and have been looking for this video. Glad I finally found it! I literally have both of these in carts and you have answered the questions I needed! Thank you!
Something interesting to dig into is the input impedance of DI boxes. Depending on the the bass you’re using, the input impedance of your DI can have a significant effect on tone.
I’m so glad you did this. I’ve had my eye on the capo for a while but there weren’t any great bass demos on it. Thinking about replacing my tone hammer with one.
My 2 cents, I did the same upgrade the past summer. A different beast with many more sound options. The two switches on the Capo are much more usable together than the two on the TH. I also love the option to control the position of the effect loop in the preamps chain of the Capo and to bind it to the A switch. I won't get back to the TH for any reason at all.
@@supercolli nice. I really just use the tone hammer for the AGS grit so for my purposes it’s huge and def being under utilized. The capos options could probably kick a couple of other pedals off as well.
I want to thank you guys for this review, slash shootout. I recently bought the Bass Rig and right after I did people started talking about the Capo and I was worried I’d mad a mistake. I think for my applications the Bass Rig is going to suit my needs just fine. Thanks again.
cool sound. im using a sans amp programable bass di and the sans amp qstripe to dial in svt tone and the 8x10 cab sound. love the sounds pedals can make and no need to drag a fridge to the gig
I have no need for an Ampeg 50th Anniversary 2 channel 300 watt SVT head/ with 8X10 cab until my band gets signed/ or I’m doing music full time to pay the bills. For now I’ll stick with my 200 watt Orange AD200B and 1X15 cab, and a bunch of analog pedals on my pedalboard!!
Not board! Awesome review, guys. This is the kind of "review" I want to see. An actual conversation about functionality and use. It's what I need to hear, anyway. Cheers!
Nice video! If you can borrow a Laney Digbeth, I would love to hear your opinion. I'm a guitar player and can't invest in an expensive pre-amp. The Digbeth seems like a nice unit with aux in/headphone out... Ideally a BOSS-IR-2 Bass would be epic, but who knows if they ever will make one.
I’d wanna use either as my actual preamp into an old Crown power amp and into an actual cabinet. Maybe just 2 1X12 cabs from now on. Do both these pedals actually feel like a real amp?
Really fantastic video guys. I got the bassrig last week, and it’s a little bit of love hate right now. Like, it for sure adds some mojo and thickness to my low end that I love, but simultaneously - I feel like I can’t dial out the scoopy mids thing no matter what I try. It’s like it dulls my attack and favors it to the highs only. I think I wish this pedal was able to tap into a little more of a b15 vibe rather than just the SVT thing. I’m a little torn on where to go from here. Capo definitely looks enticing after this, or maybe I try like a DCX or something with a little more of a mid aggressive sound going in. Curious if you’ve experienced the same kind of sterile mids thing with with the bassrig, and how you’re combating it if so?
Really great video. I'm a longtime b-15 / v4b lover who is trying to figure out a DI setup that gives me any of that mojo. I was about to pull trigger on a BassRig when I came across the CAPO. I don't know if this helped my decision or made it more complicated....but i guess i'll have to sort that out :)
I would really love to see a demo of this with an active bass! My main bass is very active, there isn't even a ground wire, and I've realized lately that I've got too much EQ going on. Stripped down to just a DG Harmonic Booster (2 band on my bass, this is for the mid control) and I've gone back to my Radial as well. I love my BDDI but the mid scoop is just... it's too much. Another thing is just shoving a lot into one enclosure always means sacrifices have to be made either for size, weight, cost, or all three right? I feel like the Radial is doing better than the BDDI is these days. Any other active bass users feel like this? I notice a lot of guys have EQ everywhere on the board; drive pedals, modulation pedals, seems like everything has a 3 band on it these days. Signal chains are getting insane and I'm doing everything I can do curb it lol.
QUESTION: So I use a Whammy Pedal, but when it's turned on, it almost seems to have like a -10db drop; could I sidechain the Whammy into the Capo, and use that first channel on the Capo to essentially drive the output of the Whammy?
Great video, great pedal. Great false beard, hat, fake name, and fancy video editing. However, we all know there were two Philip Conrads in this video. 🧐
I have a hard time with preamps because theyre often too growly or agressive, i want a soft tone. CAPO seems like a preamp that could fit, heard the trickfush minnow is good for that too, anyone have any recommendations?
My first bass just arrived via FedEx about an hour ago! Fender Player P Bass. I’m a guitar player and have an HX Stomp, so I’m using that for now, but I’m sure the gas for bass gear will kick in 😂
I rock an hx stomp with a few pedals in front then out to boost/compression/delay then out to di/amp The boost/comp is so nice and delay last makes it so pronounced when I want it And the hx has all the eq/preamp sounds I could ever need Plus I get the snapshots to alter every control to get all my sounds at the perfect level for foh
+1. I only play live, no recording, and the Stomp has been an utterly bulletproof and enjoyable rig for the last 2 years. I used to run it into a SansAmp Bass DI for some final tone shaping but since the release of the Noble/Regal patch I’ve ditched the Sans. Honestly, that patch is better in every way.
There are so many entries in the Preamp/EQ/Drive/Amp Modeling/DI space right now. Your best advice is "it depends on the gig". When I'm ready to get one I'll try several.
one thing they didn't highlight much is that the capo has 2 FX loops, one before the pre and one after. So, you get 2 DI lines, 2 FX loops, switchable dirt + incredibly versatile EQ, all analog signal path. If you want something that gives you all of those options with top shelf build quality, it's not that much. You can go digital with an HX stomp or similar, but for analogue, I think it's a pretty good deal. It's also small shop/hand built, so the price point is pretty fair all thing considered.
I must know why the DCX Bass and the Radial DI appeared on the table for 30 seconds. Are you deliberately screwing with my ADHD habits of scanning the frame for pedals? @philipconradmusic

I have a bass DI addiction and y’all not helping
You are not alone brother!!
The first step is admitting we have a problem!! 😂😂😂😂
Yeah me too.

One THE best reviews on YT...proud bass nerd
Always such tasteful bass phrasing w/ philllll
Something interesting to dig into is the input impedance of DI boxes. Depending on the the bass you’re using, the input impedance of your DI can have a significant effect on tone.
Yup, the one facet no channel goes into. I have an NS Design CR5 with mag and piezo pickups, so it's sensitive to ohmage
I’m so glad you did this. I’ve had my eye on the capo for a while but there weren’t any great bass demos on it. Thinking about replacing my tone hammer with one.

Wow, sounds great and so versatile, love how the slides sound out, thanks for the nerdy stuff 😂

Love love love my capo.
You should have demo’d the LPF on the side. Takes just the edge off the OD.
Yes²

Love my Capo! I used it on tour last year and never gotten so many compliments for my bass sound :)
Nice nerdy video. Love how you overlay the spectrum analyzer.
Good demo. I like the way this box always sounds musical even with higher overdrive.
Lol I already have the Bassrig..... And this combo just made me consider dual DI. I love the idea of the blend
Not board! Awesome review, guys. This is the kind of "review" I want to see. An actual conversation about functionality and use.
It's what I need to hear, anyway.
Cheers!
I have the CAPO! It’s absolutely amazing.
Great honest talk
The best versatile bass preamp I've ever used.

That was a very cool vid. Not my thang, but a fun watch for me nonetheless. Been enjoying your channel. Have a great New Year

Well done guys!
I use a Dark Glass Vintage Ultra for recording and live, it always sounds great.
I've been stacking the vintage deluxe before my Bassrig. It gives me a "second channel" to push the Bassrig and add that grunt depth.
Really great video. I'm a longtime b-15 / v4b lover who is trying to figure out a DI setup that gives me any of that mojo. I was about to pull trigger on a BassRig when I came across the CAPO. I don't know if this helped my decision or made it more complicated....but i guess i'll have to sort that out :)
maybe I missed it but what are you playing thru? bass>capo>? amp/cab? direct into computer?
And people thought putting a capo on bass was a crazy idea
what is this great frequency analyser software that you use occasionally. Tx
Hey Philip, may I know what software do you use for the spectrum analyzer? Cool demo btw!
I would really love to see a demo of this with an active bass! My main bass is very active, there isn't even a ground wire, and I've realized lately that I've got too much EQ going on. Agreed. Especially with my active basses, it’s just too many gain stages. I simplify EQ and only usually do it at one place.
What radial are you using? J48?
@@situationingBit late, thanks youtube, but just a ProDI my good dude. Does the trick every time.
Capo is such a great pedal
QUESTION: So I use a Whammy Pedal, but when it's turned on, it almost seems to have like a -10db drop; could I sidechain the Whammy into the Capo, and use that first channel on the Capo to essentially drive the output of the Whammy?
Excellent preamp but I’ll stick with my Ampeg SCR DI. Nobody does Ampeg better than Ampeg.
what soft wear are ya using to analyze the bass sound .man i just love your channel where's the tip jar so i can get ya some gas money
Sounds great. Any live streams coming up @Philip Conrad?
Great video, great pedal. Great false beard, hat, fake name, and fancy video editing. However, we all know there were two Philip Conrads in this video. 🧐
😂
I too am in the market for that Swiss army knife for a bass rig.
Excellent video! Do you like the line 6 helix gear? Surprised you never mention it since it has good DI bass stuff
So can you blend your pedals and preamp with the capo in the loop? Is it like parallel processing without 2 outs?
The vídeo os good, but I Still prefer The natural sound, its Hard be better Than that natural base sound, its so smooth.
Nice vid! The Capo seems great- I wasn't aware of that one. Are you finding the OE Super Vintage more useful than the Black Panel?
I personally find that sound more versatile for what I am currently doing. But both are useful and awesome. SVT vs Bassman.
I have the Capo and love it, but clearly have not used it to its full potential.
I have a hard time with preamps because theyre often too growly or agressive, i want a soft tone. CAPO seems like a preamp that could fit, heard the trickfush minnow is good for that too, anyone have any recommendations?

Great review!
Maybe this is an Australia thing, but this costs nearly as much as a stomp… that’s a no brainer.
DIs are cool and necessary, but my band's rider lists an RE20 on the speaker for a reason
Killer tones from two guys in 1980s serial killer costumes, and discussing knives.
Yeah...
HX Stomp
I rock an hx stomp with a few pedals in front then out to boost/compression/delay then out to di/amp

Season of the Witch
confuse me again with another great product which/what to purchase LOL....
It’s all about that low pass filter
There are so many entries in the Preamp/EQ/Drive/Amp Modeling/DI space right now. Your best advice is "it depends on the gig". When I'm ready to get one I'll try several.
You don't even need to try or have many. I found my sound with 2 pedals, the rest I use because I feel like it
Bass nerd 🙋♂️
Nope. I cant afford to watch this video
Honestly, for around €500, this is, like... nothing special?
