    Very cool, you are a good hand. I shoe horses and use a forge and anvil everyday but not much artsy stuff. I am going out to give this a go. I plan to make a trellis for my daughters wedding and your horseshoe heart might just be what I use to fill the trellis. Thank you!

    Those are beautiful. You said something that I try to do and teach others. " don't give up till it is done" I see a lot of stuff people make that just needed more time and a few more hits with the hammer and it would have been done. Don't quit until it is done.

    Very Cool! Chandler!I finally got my own shop up and running and hammered out a couple of hearts for Valentine Day presents. Actually several hearts because the first ones were pretty lousy. Hard to get the symmetry. Welded on three hammered legs and made counter trivets for hot pans to emulate fireplace trivets from the 18th century.
    Enjoy your videos and artistry. Now to find some horse shoes.

    Thank you so much Chandler! You know I've been looking forward to this video for awhile and now I can't wait till the next time I get to do some forging cause this is without a doubt my next project.
    As a side note, I recently got a blacksmithing tip from a friend of mine you might be interested in: harbor frieght sells end nippers (item #42266) that are fairly useless at their intended job, but can be easily turned into a good pair of tongs with a bit of forge work. My friend made a pair of wolf-jaw tongs with them that work just as good as the pair I bought Blakcksmith Depot.

    Beautiful work. I have a question for you, sir. I do a bit of hobby welding, including horseshoe designs. I want to be able to straighten shoes for making letters. I assume that you use a forge for heating the shoes in the work that you do. Being that a forge would be a hefty investment for my purpose, could you recommend a different method for getting the metal hot enough to be malleable? Would a propane torch for instance produce enough heat/ heat enough of the shoe? (I weld with flux-cored wire and do not have acetylene for heating) Eventually I may get to the point where I want to shape the metal the way you are with hand tools and the anvil. The horse heads are really nice looking.

    • @chandlerdickinson
      @chandlerdickinson  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      WantCoffee99 Check out my bucket forge video... You will save in propane what you spend in the forge easily.... Coal or charcoal though if you can find it coal would be cheaper. I am sure you can get it hot enough with propane... you probably want it atleast red hot to straighten them. Bucket forge is a pretty easy way to go...

    nice to see you uploading vids again. i been making skull head knives out of spikes. it was fun at first till i got better at doing it. now i get too pissed off when i cant get something to do what i want it to do. i think i do better on my first attempt at anything. Then when i try to replicate shit falls all to hell.

      @chandlerdickinson  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      chadderall eh as with many things in life the firsts are the best! lol.. I have encountered the same problems but it shows me that that is where i need to focus practicing... A good smith can repeat! I think....lol

Probably been around since the late 1800's and has seen many good times... I felt so bad about saying she sucks that I took a little time and dressed up a couple spots on her table. I still feel bad...lol
