Ken's Custom Iron Well it went great and was a lot of fun! I made a few of them . Unfortunately on the best one, I realized I used the stamped side of the shoe so now it has a "00" birthmark. As a bonus , I had to make an eye punch and an ear punch. And I got to do all of this work with my new KCI cross peen hammer ! What an awesome hammer ! Thanks again Ken!
I'm a huge fan of smithing. This is the first time I have been priveleged enough to find your channel. I loved the instructional feel of this vid. I feel like I can follow the tutorial ( with a bit of practise, maybe a lot! ) I recently made my adult son a dragon head bottle opener, and I feel it is fairly good, thpough still a bit rough. My elder daughter saw it and wanted her own. She is a horse wrangler and wants something appropriate, so I will try to use one of the shoes she gave me to recreate this project and forge a bottle opener on the other end. Wish me luck, and thank you for a very clear and easily understandeable tutorial, teaching is an entirely different skill from the piece of art you just produced and I think you did just fine on both!
Thanks Ken for a great little project, as soon as my new forge gets here I will be doing this horse head. It will be my first thing I make as I have not done any Blacksmithing before, so wish me luck
Great video! Two questions, I have mules is it difficult to lengthen the ear, (I have tons of old shoes and could just experiment) How did you make your eye punch?
You can drill a small hole in the end of a rod and then grind away the material to shape the eye or you can go to kensiron.com and purchase one made from H13.......
The opposite end needs to be shaped into a tail. Awesome little project 👌
This, in my humble opinion, is what tutorial videos should be modeled after. Excellent step-by-step instructions!
Thank you for the insight.
