I love how the dwarfs' used rams in the movie, it's such a perfect mount for them. Rams are great at mountain traversing where dwarves tend to live and are stubborn and thick headed like them too, really a good match overall.
It's just copied from Warcraft lol, but with the technology copied from Warhammer, which is where Warcraft heavily copies from. Warhammer in turn heavily copies from Tolkien. So pop-cultural production wise, this is well sampled, but far from original, and it is also very unfaithful to Tolkien, who explicitly states the Dwarves don't deal with animals at all.
Seriously, this whole trilogy made me love Balin so much, it was so sad to realize he actually dies in Moria few years later. He was such a kind dwarf and an absolute badass.
The sadness Frodo, Gimli and Gandalf felt when they found out was triple since they knew him. Even Gloin's story about him has an echo of dread as to what happened to his friend. Imagine poor old Bilbo in Rivendell, being told the story after all the events of the War- it would probably be the last time the old Hobbit would cry. The fact that even we, the reader don't know everything makes it even scarier

The goats were incredibly strong and well-trained creatures. Even within the lore those goats 100% had to have had magical abilities to be able to do what they did in this scene

I LITERALLY cannot BELIEVE they removed this scene from the movie. This is possibly the coolest part of the entire battle. That vehicle is so fucking awesome. It references Darius III's Chariots with the scythed wheels getting a lucky shot in and beheading all six of those weird half-troll thingys (Ridiculously fantastical, but this is LITERALLY the IP that is the GENESIS of the modern era of High Fantasy Literature) , it references Santa's sleigh doling out coal to all the naughty orcs and wargs, equipped with the equivalent of a heavy chariot cannon (ballista- a tank is a heavily armored mobile firing platform, this is more of an infantry fighting vehicle), plus rear-guard lower caliber "machine gun" support (the dwarf shooting arrows) and a couple extra dwarves with melee weapons to fend off any grabbers-on (In real life modern war, infantry fighting vehicles and tanks have to be protected by infantry to do their job, so this is a shockingly accurate depction of an infantry fighting vehicle, barring the whole, you know, fantasticalism of it all). And then to de-link the ballista chariot, turn it around, and use it as a stationary, rearguard heavy firing platform WHILE simultaneously forming a cavalry unit to attack Ravenhill with the remaining goats???? And then for the other dwarf to come in on top of that giant... troll... thingy... and smack the shit out of the other troll, seriously!!!!?!?!?!? I hadn't seen neither the LOTR nor the Hobbit and when i decided to watch them I picked the hobbit first (chronological order of the stories). I saw the extended versions and I loved it, then I watched LOTR. Both really good but I think I found hobbit a little bit more fun (lotr is a complete masterpiece I have to admit)

this is fucking awesome scene!!! For all its faults, The Hobbit really gave the dwarf lovers something other fantasy movies had not done, a good representation of Fantasy Dwarf culture and character and for that it's commendable.
Indeed! The hobbit wasn’t perfect, but Peter Jackson saved what he could for it. It was a mess from the start, but he gave us a decent adaptation still, even if it is not perfect. And fortunately, before the woke race swapping took over.

I absolutely love this, its so cool! But I can also see why they cut it, the hobbit didn't do as well because there were too many scenes like this, awesome action without any kind of weight behind it storywise. Think of how Aragorn comes back with the ghost army or how Legolas and Gimli count kills, putting aside the bad blood between elf and dwarf and recognising each as talented warriors forming a friendship that would last for two ages over friendly competitiveness. Or how the last stand when Aragorn says 'for frodo' works so well because he doesn't know if his friend is alive or dead, but is willing to fight and die in the hope that he will be, shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the fellowship. Those scenes work because they hit hard as well, they have the story behind them.
Agreed. The Elves couldn't stand being outclassed by the Dwarves and the Men couldn't keep up with the Dwarves and not get blown out beyond exhaustion.

To me it feels much more organic and true to the characters' personalities in the movies. Comedy in Marvel is great, but sometimes I feel like it's played too much as a gimmick nowadays.
I agree. Back in the days of Lord of the Rings it was mostly about the characters we loved facing those dangerous situations, e.g. when they needed to jump over the gap in Moria. Even after watching the movie a hundred times, the music and the acting of the characters still make you feel the tension. In the hobbit it's just CGI and weird acrobatics that ignore all laws of physics. What were they thinking? Can't feel any tension at all.

In Lord of the Rings there were emotional moments yes, and some jokes between Legolas and Gimly. But it was a really different movie than The Hobbit. More serious, more quality, less a children's movie with children jokes throughout the battles.

Just like the entire sequel that was based on roughly 300 pages yet stretched as long as the LoTR triology. Short 3-4 word sentences, characters missing profiles and details, cheesy love story with a made up character (btw I blame Tauriel for the whole amazon LoTR trash they are about to unleash on us).

I’d say it’s poor that we didn’t get to see this scene in the cinema, but considering the time limit and proportion to the story I’d say “makes sense” if they decided to cut it. But that just means that the movie was actually done but longer duration considering the deleted scenes are all edited and finalized Edit: since this scene was too long on its own, the tensity to the story is actually paused making this scene feels like a total filler. But still, this scene is so cool and satisfying both the battle mechanics and the characterization of the dwarves

It's so true! The Lord of the Rings trilogy had a really nice adaptation, something actually somewhat similar to what Tolkien had written, but the Hobbit is just a series of silly action films, so overblown.

But for Hobbit he was called in on the last moment because the previous director decided to bail, so he had much less time + WB studio now wanted to milk it as a trilogy. I absolutely love this, its so cool! But I can also see why they cut it, the hobbit didn't do as well because there were too many scenes like this, awesome action without any kind of weight behind it storywise. Think of how Aragorn comes back with the ghost army or how Legolas and Gimli count kills, putting aside the bad blood between elf and dwarf and recognising each as talented warriors forming a friendship that would last for two ages over friendly competitiveness. Or how the last stand when Aragorn says 'for frodo' works so well because he doesn't know if his friend is alive or dead, but is willing to fight and die in the hope that he will be, shoulder to shoulder with the rest of the fellowship. Those scenes work because they hit hard as well, they have the story behind them.
If they included that long barrel scene they could have included this.

To me it feels much more organic and true to the characters' personalities in the movies. Comedy in Marvel is great, but sometimes I feel like it's played too much as a gimmick nowadays.

I agree. Back in the days of Lord of the Rings it was mostly about the characters we loved facing those dangerous situations, e.g. when they needed to jump over the gap in Moria. Even after watching the movie a hundred times, the music and the acting of the characters still make you feel the tension. In the hobbit it's just CGI and weird acrobatics that ignore all laws of physics. What were they thinking? Can't feel any tension at all.

A lot of this wasn't cgi persay but the lighting and too much background green screens caused the hobbits to be more goofy looking.

In Lord of the Rings there were emotional moments yes, and some jokes between Legolas and Gimly. But it was a really different movie than The Hobbit. More serious, more quality, less a children's movie with children jokes throughout the battles.

@@orangefox1231 probably the excessive violence, so they can milk the box office with under 16 viewers. Just like the entire sequel that was based on roughly 300 pages yet stretched as long as the LoTR triology. Short 3-4 word sentences, characters missing profiles and details, cheesy love story with a made up character (btw I blame Tauriel for the whole amazon LoTR trash they are about to unleash on us).

Chicom probably wouldn't allow it. You'll notice all the Deleted or reserved for the extended version are what the Chicoms call gory. Either to much blood or violence.

I’d say it’s poor that we didn’t get to see this scene in the cinema, but considering the time limit and proportion to the story I’d say “makes sense” if they decided to cut it. But that just means that the movie was actually done but longer duration considering the deleted scenes are all edited and finalized
Edit: since this scene was too long on its own, the tensity to the story is actually paused making this scene feels like a total filler. But still, this scene is so cool and satisfying both the battle mechanics and the characterization of the dwarves

It's so true! The Lord of the Rings trilogy had a really nice adaptation, something actually somewhat similar to what Tolkien had written, but the Hobbit is just a series of silly action films, so overblown.

@@jerzyskrobek156 Yeah, for LOTR Peter pre-planned most of the stuff for years beforehand, from careful casting to screenwriting etc. It was basically his passion project of which he is still proud even today. But for Hobbit he was called in on the last moment because the previous director decided to bail, so he had much less time + WB studio now wanted to milk it as a trilogy. You can probably tell that his heart wasn't fully in it.

They didn't. They Just put it Into the longer version. The Extended Edition. There is the normal Cinema Version and the longer version. In the longer Version are many scenes you probably don't know.
