Wow, prices in the USA are crazy, I have 4 Giant Africans, Archispirostreptus gigas, and they cost £15 each from the spider shop, but I guess they are easier to get over here. Nice specimens, I was thinking about getting some different ones and your vid has given me some ideas 👍

I know!! They're so hard to find in here. And they're not illegal... Idk why but juveniles cost over 100 USD and adults can cost about 300 USD...

They haven't always been expensive here in the US. They used to be cheap

Is the Giant Desert Millipede the biggest North American Native?

That I know of, yes. It's twice as long or more as the American Giant Millipede. The biggest downside is that all of them are WC.

I did some more research and i see 2 type of Giant Deserts one being the gold one being the chocolate any differences between them when it comes to care and size?

@@MT94SMM hey! No. If you look at the species name you'll see that the golden and chocolate version are both the same species, Orthoporus Ornatus. They both require the same care and get to the same size. They're just different colors. The same way many geckos have different morphs even if they are a different species, or there are ball pythons with lots of colors and morphs even if they are the same species. These two millipedes look the same except for the color, and are the same species, so they can interbreed with one another. However, there has not been a single person that has proven that they are breed able in captivity. We tried and got no luck so we buy them, quarantine and get them rid of parasites, and then keep them for months to ensure they are healthy, and then we resell. That's why they are more expensive in our store than in other stores. Many stores will sell you a dying millipede and blame it on the customer since it was not dead when it arrived but maybe it was full of mites and worms. Good luck with your research and don't hesitate to message us!

What should the Tempature and Humidity be for them?

@@MT94SMM I do 75 for al my millipedes and they are there too, you could go up to 80 but I wouldn't go over 80 or under 70. And for humidity I don't track it with a hygrometer, but I make sure it's moist at the beginning of the day and not that much in the end. Don't let the humidity be high all the time or mold will build up
