This is brilliant. Thank you Zuko! I used your method today to cut the template I'll need to make a set of oval placemats. I knew I wanted them to be 18" x 14." I used a thick sheet of cardboard taped securely on top of a board that I could nail into, followed your instructions and voilà, template done. The sites with all the geometric measuring just gave me a headache. Your instructions are crystal clear and work great.
