Nice, it worked! If anyone is struggling to get it to work like I was, make sure the battery goes back in right after you disconnect it. It's after that that you'll feel it vibrate. Lifesaver!
Actually you can also power up your phone, if you operate out the power button and you use a wet knife instead. It's the simplest way, but of course it's more practical to change your phone by then :D

It worked for Samsung J2. First plug in the charger and charging symbol arrives then remove the battery and put it again and now disconnect the charger.I had no belief that it will work but it worked 🎉🎉
If you have a J7 Prime, which is not that easy to take out its battery, just try to press and hold the volume up and down buttons at the same time. I've done it with the charger unplugged. It worked for me.
