  • The beach of the Marchesa, also known as Gelsomineto, certainly one of the most beautiful in Eastern Sicily, begins where the Cassibile river flows into the sea with its spectacular estuary.
We are in the province of Syracuse, in the territory of the municipality of Avola. The route I propose is an easy "seaside" walk that, starting right from the splendid beach of the Marchesa, climbs the promontory that closes it to the south and continues along a path created on the edge of the cliff. After a series of cliffs, rocky spurs and natural pools to take your breath away, keeping the wheat fields with golden stubble on the right (in summer), the path slopes gently to a magnificent pebble beach, curiously without a name, and then climbs up again and go back down to the small and unspoiled beach of "Due Bolle". If you want to continue, from here the path continues up to another promontory overlooking the sea to end at the sandy beach of Contrada Gallina where there is a small settlement.
It is a comfortable excursion, about 6 kilometers round trip, to explore an otherwise inaccessible stretch of coast, with the possibility of diving into the now turquoise and now green waters of a blue flag sea that you will not easily forget. Dedicate the whole day to excursions, it is the best way to enjoy nature and the sea. So in the morning you can get away from the more crowded Marchesa beach which gives its best in the late afternoon, when the crowd thins out and the low sun floods it with its orange light. You can bathe in the clear (albeit slightly cold) waters of the Cassibile river which ends here in the Ionian Sea the 30 kilometers journey from Palazzolo Acreide through the Cavagrande del Cassibile Nature Reserve. You will be able to observe the old reinforced concrete posts from World War II, the casemates, which are still waiting from the top of the cliffs, no one knows what.
For this video, shot almost entirely in 4k, a GoPro Hero 7 was used, except for the shots of the Marchesa beach at sunset, shot in 2018 with an Eken H8R. I also used two short clips filmed with an i-Phone 7. Aerial shots are obtained with a Mavic Air.
Post-production and editing were done using i-Movie, an entry level software that performs the essential tasks perfectly.
The song "Nimbus" is from Eveningland and is available in the TH-cam Audio Library.
