      Prevent your computer from being controlled by any remote
      On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Security & Privacy, then click General.
      Click the lock icon to unlock it, then enter an administrator name and password.
      Click Advanced.
      In the window that appears, select “Disable remote control infrared receiver.”

    I own an older version Apple Remote, but my computer doesn't seem to be able to pair remotes. When I looked in System Pref. there was a help guide where to find it, but when I clicked there wasn't anything there. ( I also followed step by step with your video ). I don't know what year my macbook is, but It had that charging port problem with the square end, and then they changed it to the side clip-on charger before they came out with the Macbook Air. ( I'm trying to be as detailed )

    Do you happen to now why my old white apple remote for my iMac only half works? it will play, pause, skip songs and adjust the volume. However, nothing happens when I press menu.. it used to come up with options such as photos, and also be able flick through albums and playlists on iTunes, as well as select visualisers. I changed the battery, in case that was the issue, but i have the same results. I also followed the steps here in your video to see if that would make a difference, an it didn't. Any help on this is greatly appreciated!

    • @TechandDesign
      @TechandDesign  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      OneTrackApp yup. No more infrared, therefore no more remote for all new macs. However with so many apps that came out, there are really really good remotes that can control your computer like a mouse pad with an iPhone, iPod, or ipad , over wifi

      There's nothing like the simplicity and reliability of a simple apple remote. I have no end of iPads, iPhones and iPod Touches around the house but if I were to use one of them as a remote I would prefer to just get up and use the mouse instead.

    • @TechandDesign
      @TechandDesign  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OneTrackApp lol. true. however you should give it a try, the apps work very well. I got a few videos on that. Even for apple tv its better to use the iPhones app, specially for searching for since you can type in your iphone and with the remote you have to select letter by letter.Just in case the iMacs infrared remote also works on all apple tvs

    iTunes automatically opens when I turn on my bluetooth speakers. So I'll be listening to a movie and my iTunes library at the same time. I end up force quitting it as it opens. It drives me nuts. Does this method work for that too? I can't seem to find the answer to preventing iTunes opening when I connect my bluetooth speakers. Tnx!

      +Kotobukicho that would be in iTunes preferences . Or depending on the speakers and its software - you could go into preferences for the speaker and change the settings so it doesn't open

      Incorrect. Apple began phasing out the IR modules in 2009 and ended the remote access with the iMac mini in 2014. iMac owners interested in maintaining IR remote functions with MacBook Air, Retina MacBook, or other Mac models without a built-in IR receiver requires a USB-based infrared receiver and/or additional software from a third party.
      For the Apple computers without built-in infrared receiver, there is a miniature USB receiver (USBA or USBC versions), the SmartGUS or the Flirc USB , which restores the infrared functionality. In this case, all compatible software (iTunes, Keynote, PowerPoint, OpenOffice Impress, QuickTime Player, iPhoto, VLC, Kodi, Remote Buddy, Mira ...) can use the features of the Apple Remote, the same as with the legacy built-in infrared receiver. Check out the Remote Buddy App or Mira's Apple IR page for further information, to identify your remote, instructions or to pair your iPhone as a remote or use a third party remote.

    Hi, I have a MBP Retina Mid 2014 and a MBP (not Retina) late 2011. I use the 2011 one for my home cinema system. It has some program installed on it so it acts like an Apple TV for my phone etc...
    I usually take the Apple Bluetooth Keyboard with me in the couch, but I'd rather have a remote. Would this remote work with that MacBook (just for controlling the volume)?
    Thanks!

      @TechandDesign  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Arne Maeschaelck yes it will . But I wouldnt waste my money on it. There are soooooo many apps you can use that do much more than this remote. Watch this video: th-cam.com/video/fvBJeyuN8Ag/w-d-xo.html

      @TechandDesign  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      you could get an imac remote which also works for apple tv , so thats another idea.
