Just want to say that I love The Fifty Project because you turn around, because you put your family and your life first.
You know why? I'll tell you: because that's what the majority of us do and The Fifty is what the majority of us will never do. So we watch it through you. I intend to live for as well and as long as I can enjoy this sweet planet. And I wish for the people who broadcast me a chill evening, such as yourself, to do likewise.
The RedBull death defying brigade have always been impressive yet always alienating. Whereas The Fifty from start to finish is just damn enjoyable to watch.

agreed. im not even a skier but i see stories like this about parents shredding in the mountains and it gives me a roadmap of what i could do in the future if i become a parent and how i can enjoy the outdoors like they do.

Congrats on parenthood Elyse and Cody. Remember, as parents you take less risks, until they’ve flown the nest. Great film by the way.

Our baby we had in March had reflux (colic) and even three months in, she was waking up, I kid you not, every 20-25 minutes every night, 6 hour witching *hour, no naps unless you wore her and rocked her. Luckily all I gave up was drinking instead of the outdoors. Mostly thanks to my amazing wife being understanding and us tag teaming it. Now at 7 months our daughter is passed that stage and we are having a blast. I wish this episode came out back then it would have helped a lot to see I wasn’t the only one struggling to navigate the new life arena. But again thank you for putting so much real life into these. Im sure there’s some other new Dads hanging their skis for the season that this will mean a lot to. Cheers and congrats on becoming a Dad!

Well done both. As a 48 yr old with 2 teenage girls your life and goals change but it’s still great. Being happy getting out, cruising the pow. Won’t be long before the little nugget is pizza’ing down the greens and you’ll love it more than I can explain. There’s no doubt you could both ski every line in the fifty but if you don’t that’s just life.

My wife and I raised our kids in north Texas where there are no mountains. However, we made adventure a priority in our lives by taking them hiking, rafting, and skiing in the Colorado Rockies and the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. We are all different people because of that and I definitely know our kids appreciate the heck out of it. Awesome job being adventure parents!

I so appreciate this episode! As a mom of a 2-year old, my partner and I have experienced the challenges of getting back into skiing and hiking once you become parents. I really love seeing the encouragement of Elyse by the whole team and the understanding that moms need a "good day in the mountain" too. Even supermoms need days off and adventures to refresh. I especially love Cody's comments about how she can go 2 hours on sleep and wake up with a smile and keep taking care of her son like a badass and how inspiring that is to him. Love everything about this episode!

My son (28 today) is my absolute favorite mountaineering and ski mountaineering partner. He was born and raised in the Eastern Sierra and started b/c skiing with me at 5 months old. (He was a really sturdy kid, being 11 1/2 pounds, 24" at birth.) Did his first overnight b/c ski tour at 4, his first three day trip at 10, and his first roped ice climb at 13. I have 3 daughters, too, and growing up connected to nature and challenging themselves in the b/c has made them exceptional humans. I was able to spend a total of 9 days with them over three trips backpacking in the last 6 weeks. We come from the earth and need to know that in our bones.
(It may be the last thing you want to think of now, but I recommend having another kid. The family dynamic is so much more rich with siblings.)

Great episode! Mountain guy, parent of a 5 year old daughter, learning that my/our new life with our baby is like sitting at a giant sound board...constantly adjusting the levels, every moment of every day...on the balance I wouldn't change a thing...now y'all just have another little being to share the stoke with...

Reading Snow Sense and Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain, you can sometimes forget how we assess and evaluate risk changes once we have a kiddo at home (or for me, a kiddo by my side). I certainly get it and truly respect the perspective presented here (and also the sleep factor with a new born is no joke.).

Amazing video. Great to see a bit from your normal life. It was impressive to see how my wife recovered after giving birth and how much she's able to give and how little she needs for herself. I struggle with letting a good snowy day pass without skiing and my partner is willing to sacrifice everything and I do mean everything for our kids. Sleep, time, health, everything.
I love to follow the Fifty and from now on it's much easier to go without videos for a while, as I know how you are spending your time instead.

As a parent of a 4year old and 18month old, this video is everything. The absolute struggles to continue skiing, mountain biking etc is very real. Elyse is seriously impressive and that must have been so tricky having to pump etc during a long ass day out in the field. My wife and I grew our relationship in the mountains and now with little ones in the tow its such a different season of our lives but even with the struggles, we somehow make it happen. Nice work Mom and Dad!
