Young Archimedes, A Short Story by Aldous Huxley

In Aldous Huxley's "Young Archimedes," an English couple, the Narrator and his wife, move to Italy and encounter a remarkably intelligent peasant boy named Guido. They become fascinated by Guido's natural mathematical genius and his ability to intuitively understand complex concepts. The couple try to provide him with opportunities to cultivate his talent, but they clash with the boy's family and the local culture, which do not value intellectual pursuits. Tragically, Guido's abilities and the Narrator's interest lead to misunderstanding and suspicion.....

For whatever reason I didn't stay in school long enough to be introduced to literature.
I have been in the hospital for several days unexpectedly and have cried tears of joy over, "The talking bird the singing tree and the golden water", it was just as effective a pain medication as the Norco.
Now this morning, I discharged in a few minutes and I am sitting here crying with sorrow after this young Archimedes tale.

I recall my best friends John Jenova and Phillip Geovani and I cannot recall saying goodbye to them in 1972 when at 9 years old I left Lieghton Buzzard for New Zealand. How can that be?

My plan is to anoint my home with anointing oil and prayer. The day of the eclipse I will be praying and fasting for the repentance of our country. For God’s forgiveness for those wrong things done in our countries name and for God’s mercy on all of us. After listening to this program I have decided to walk my property reading psalms 91 before the eclipse. I do not expect anything much to happen during or right after the eclipse except for the regular foolishness of man during a day off. However, I am taking this eclipse as a warning that our country better be getting our homes in order, our country into repentance, and checking and double checking that we are in good relationship with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. God bless each of you and your families. I am sure this eclipse is a warning from our Lord and I’m taking it very serious.
