He didn't call for back up from the other apes they came because they were scared they didn't want scar king to get hurt and then be angry because they just sat there. Scar King would have defeated Kong if he kept fighting their skill levels were completely different, however he felt disrespected and wasn't going to let it slide and chose to use Shimo which in the long run was a bad move
When Kong was being choked, he was definitely going to faint; but when he looked at the enslaved apes, mainly at Suko, he knew he was their only hope and couldn't lose. But that's just my headcannon.

Skar King is more smaller, thinner and lighter, this helps him to be faster than Kong, but at the cost of his brute strength, we saw in this movie whenever he is about to lose a fight he resorts to backing up Shimu and his army of monkeys. Kong would have won the first fight if Skar hadn't called Shimu.
I like how Skar fought like he knew Capoeira lmao; almost dance-like moves of agility with his cartwheels, flips, and evasive methods. Very cool and unique style when mixed with a whip weapon.
Skar fighting Kong is probably my favorite fight because of one thing, Skar holds back at the start. He isn’t trying to beat Kong at first, he is simply seeing how strong Kong is. He laughed at his metal tooth and openly taunted Kong by laughing, until the moment Skar saw he was losing. Him summoning Shimo is basically his way of saying “I won this fight before it started”. With Intelligence comes arrogance.

However the animators make it very clear that he takes sadistic enjoyment in ending Kong, extinguishing his flicker of hope in a matter of saying.
And also the fact that kong literally threw him away from a strangle position that heavily favours scar king and got immediately ragdolled after that, the novel makes what we see here even more apparent, that kong would’ve killed scar king if he didn’t have shimo.
Long range vs. close combat. Kong definitely has the advantage when it comes to fighting up close. But since he has no long range attacks like Godzilla he has to rely on his agility and the axe to help fight opponents with long range attacks.
I love in the movie we get a sense of Skar King's personality within a few minutes He relies on scare tactics and while he's a heavy hitter, he knows if he's outmatched and looks weak it's time to bring out Shimo :0

I'm listening the the novelization's audiobook on audible. In the book it's revealed Kong would've killed Skar King if it wasn't for Shimo's intervention. This happens near the end of chapter 12. Here is the exact quote: “Kong wasted no time. He grabbed the red ape again, picked him back up and threw him on his face. Red ape rolled back up, but Kong saw he was hurt. Other apes behind him started forward to help him, but the red ape gestured for them to stop. He stood back, not continuing the attack. Some of the other apes started pounding the floor again. This time Kong thought it was for him. He pounded his chest and roared his dominance. Red ape was fast and tricky surprising. But kong understood him now. If the fight resumed, he would kill the other titan. Red Ape knew that."

I think they miss a huge opportunties ( writer) to give skar king an elemental power that channel through his weapon ( like ice whip) similar to kong nuclear battle axe and it would explain why skar king eyes are so blue.

Skar King's choice of weapon is actually good, he knows he will probably get bodied in close quarter combat so he always used a long range melee has his weapon, a good combination with it is his agility making him constantly damage opponents whilst dogding Sadly however, if that specific opponent somehow gets near him, he is pretty much doomed, while what we saw in fight fight, Skat King got to cocky leading him to getting a counter hit by Kong, knocking his body in the process

Skar being the more experienced fighter knows he can't win in close combat so fights with more cunning and technique than strength.
The fight lasted 1 minutes before scar king called out Shinto and got help from the other alpha male kongs
People say kong is much stronger than skar king yet he almost got choked out by skar twice
“Almost” the fact that he failed TWICE means that scar king is considerably weaker than kong.
