- It's my second time to visit this great city.
I only got 48 hours in this city.
I filmed 2 videos. One is Xiamen University, and one is Xiamen's pedestrian street.

Zhongshan street is the nerve centre of Xiamen tourism.
All tourists, travellers, visitors, how you may prefer to call them, they all come here at some point of their visit.
It is said that more than a billion people pass here every year. More than a billion!
Now you would wonder who these people are and where they all come from?
Well, firstly, they aren’t foreigners. They are local Chinese tourists from other regions in China.
Secondly, in this trip to Xiamen, I realised that China is seriously an economic power to reckon with.
They do not need foreigners to augment their tourism sector.
They are self-sufficient because millions of Chinese are out there travelling locally.
Zhongshan Road is the oldest commercial street in Xiamen dating back to 1925.
It is a kilometre long walking street filled with pretty retail shops, big department stores, lots of cute cafes and contemporary and traditional cuisine restaurants, food courts and more retail shops.
It is closed to any vehicular traffic and smoking is not allowed on the streets.
Visiting this street is a must for Xiamen first time visitors. Some may find this street too touristy, highly commercialised, loud and nothing special at all, whilst another will probably think it is great and lively, and a good representation where the now capitalist China is heading for.
Western and traditional shops collide here at Zhongshan; yes, there is a KFC and McDonalds and the interior design of many tea shops, such as the elegant Miss Zhao will make you think you are in one of the exclusive stores in Europe.
There are tea stores here selling the traditional loose leaf tea and others that are trendy, a combination of a tea shop and a cafe promoting milk tea and pearl milk tea. Zhang Sanfeng Milk Tea Shop is one of the popular ones.
There is a wide array of local food delights as well which are perfect to bring home as souvenirs and gifts, such as dried food products (crab, squid, fish, pork floss), nuts, durian, pineapple and mango candies, mooncakes of different flavours, roast duck and more.
Many promotional ladies stand outside the shops as well and beg passersby to taste a sample of their product. I managed to taste some of the dried seafood and mooncakes and ended up buying a few packs as homecoming gifts for my family.
There is also a very interesting street food scene here. The Fujian-style snacks which has a focus on seafood and right up my alley as I love anything coming from the sea. I will be writing a separate post about this very soon.
Except for food, I am not a big retail shopper but there is plenty of department stores here for people looking for clothes, shoes and other dry personal and home goods.
And oh, for the ladies, many jewellery shops here would chain you a necklace made of pearls harvested from a live oyster right before your eyes. While you wait.

I myself find great joy in witnessing space which has been transformed to draw people together , we are social creatures , and thus are naturally drawn to the comfort of sharing space with others , even public space , if these past two years have taught us anything , it is to appreciate , and yes , cherish each others company , no matter how insignificant our encounters may seem , we have all been touched by the events of the past two years in many different ways , my hope is that we all come out of these troubled times better for having survived them , and in our rush to amuse ourselves moving forward , may we all take the time to sit and listen to one another , to smile more at those around us , to strive to be more kind , understanding and compassionate , even towards those who may offend us somehow , are these not the things we all crave for in our hearts and minds , and what of our children , do we not want a better future for them to inherit , these beautifully designed buildings we are seeing stand so very tall , the lights they so joyfully display are warm , bright , and oh so inviting , may our own behavior towards each other stand as tall , and be as warm , and inviting as these wonderous new cities we are privileged to experience , cities do have their importance it's true , but what really makes a city , or a country for that matter , most memorable , are the people who live , work , and yes , play amongst these glorious backdrops of human creation ...

This really takes me back! I remember during the weekends; I would go with my mom down the streets of Xiamen exploring the sights. I was born and raised in that city before we moved to America. Ahh, sweet nostalgia.😍 I really miss those days.😢

Love to see people up and about. Lots of young people and they seem to be relaxed and happy. Years ago I was doing a joint project for the Provincial Government and Chinese Academy of Sciences and stayed in Xia'Men for weeks at a time. I did go to the adjacent areas (Quan Zhou and Zhang Zhou) but most of the days I found myself sitting in a conference room talking to people or writing stuff. In rare occasions I would have a day off and I would go to Gu Lang Yu for a stroll, or Ji Mei for a run. Kinda regretted that I did not get a chance to enjoy and appreciate the city more. Definitely on my "Need to Revisit" list.

Thanks for sharing! Visited Xiamen more than 10 years ago. Most likely the entire Fujian province had changed a lot. I enjoyed the Nine-Bend Stream raft cruise at Wuyishan. Back then we flew to Wuyishan, and returned more than 5 hours on a slow train. The food on Xiamen is nice.

I like that they use warm lights at night time, it's good for your mental state. Bright LED lights keep you awake, it disturbs your melotonin, thus making you have sleepless nights. Warm lights help you sleep better at night. Better sleep equals more happier people with more energy.

I love how the stores open to the air, the products almost pouring out onto the street, a real mix of market and bright indoor shopping. Most streets stores in the west are behind glass windows and heavy doors.

I can feel your pain... The pain of decide what you gonna eat between all theses food store XD. It must be terrible to hesitate.
Brain be like "Mmmh, soo many good things.. can't choose." while the stomach be like "Hey! Hey! Pick a choice or i make you feel the pain again!" Ha ha ha XD
When you go in the cat alley, i expected tosee alots of real cats around, like in the piano island XD, many many cats around. (i love cats)
Can see it's the 100 birthday... there is soo many China flags everywhere XD. I know there is always flags around, but some small streets are really covered with them now.

廈門的中山路遠近馳名，早期的建築都二、三、四層樓，透天店面式整排騎樓的建築，購物步行街與上海南京東路，台北迪化街，新加坡烏節路，香港的中環、銅鑼灣、尖沙咀一帶，硫球的國際通，東京的新宿通，澀谷，原宿竹下通，都是逛街購物美食，可一次購足的好地方XD ！
