  • While one JS class 2-8-2 has just failed to get its loaded train out of the opencast pit, another JS attempts to haul its own train up the incline. This JS also fails and both JSs head back into the pit to take a run at the climb. A standby JS has to be called to assist with the job ... see 17c. • China - Sandaoling 17c...

It can be very cold here ... usually around minus 20c but can be up to zero.

Interesting to look for that place on Google Earth. See how black the local area is from all the coal dust.

Yes, true. And if you look in the right spot you'll see 3 diesels lined up ready to replace these last few steam locos. We're in the last weeks/months of industrial steam in the world now.

Fantastic location. When it is windy do not use to much zoom, it spoils your shot and that´s a pity.

Cold. I have been in Urumqi, which is further west . Look for San Dao Ling on Google Earth. Look for Urumqi as well. China runs on one time zone, yet, Urumqi is way out west. in reality, it should be about 1.5 hours difference from the east side of China. San Dao Ling is 92 degrees East. Beijing is about 116 degrees. So, 24 degrees. 1 degree = 4 minutes, so, 24 degrees in 96 minutes. I hour 36 minutes.

Just love the pollution in the air. :-) I'm off to Beijing and Shanghai in mid February. Have purchased a number of face masks to try and keep some pollution out . I'll check out the Rail Museum ( again ) in Beijing. Its just near the Forbidden City. Good way to spend a couple of hours .

If you love pollution you'll be very happy in Beijing. I've been there many times but have never seen it as bad as it was in December. I'm afraid the face mask are a waste of time in my opinion (even though they're very popular in Beijing). The pollution is from gases and will just go straight through the masks.

I was surprised at how clear the air was in Shanghai on my only visit there, then found out they had shut down all the industry for the World Expo that week.
