What a timely topic for a movie. Asian countries have changed from venerating their elderly to dumping them on the side of the road...incredibly sad to see a community de-evolving.
OMG that is the most depressing movie I've seen in a long time. This reminds me of the Quietus scheme from the book Children of Men by PD James. I saw both the movie and read the book. They were very different in a lot of ways, but the Quietus scheme seemed so barbaric and obscene to me. It shook me a lot.
I"m in my 50s now. My parents died about 10 years ago aged 75 and 74. So according to this movie they were right on schedule. I expect the same for myself. 🤞
You do realise its because people voted for them right? There are literally others to vote for, but millions still vote for these people over 65 years old.
The only reason they raised the age for the movie was they wanted certain actors that could no way pass for 19-20. I think Michael York who played Logan was in his mid 30s, and Richard Jordan who played Frances was almost 40, at the time. So they raised the age to 30.
The funny thing is in the "west" the opposite is more plausible. Aging society would rather elect politicians that would be more eager to enforce hard labour on youngers generation and enforce procreation, so that aging pensioners would have theirs financial and medical future secured.
Interesting perspective, but not exactly true. My mother just went through her last few years, and as she got older the ‘government insurance’ paid for less and less services. They did everything to end her life without saying anything. I was a bit shocked, and I would not believe it if it did not just happen to me.
@@sebastiangabor5693 There is a very old movie called "Logan's Run" where the government was executing people once they reached 30. Do you think this could actually happen?
@@tippytalk oh no no, as I stated I believe in the „west” the opposite is more plausible. With the populists addressing boomers and X’ers (maybe even aging millennials) they will be able to push laws that will force Z, and alphas into work till death scheme with high taxation as they’ll be simply outnumbering them 😶
It did say it's optional, those that don't have the means to stay on or have no reason to stay around can take the option. Political elites definitely have a lot of means and reason to stick around.
The elderly who paid taxes all their lives and forced pensions are somehow draining resources so bad?? I mean they aren't getting it for free right I assume they paying for their resources like everyone else?? 🤦🏾♂️ But I'm only like 10 seconds in lets see how it goes 👀
They paid/worked for a system, that was never designed to work for a society without population growth. simply said: no kids, no future. Either change the system or get more kids.
Even if the elderly worked their entire lives, the economy doesn’t get to go in retirement. After retirement, old people become an expense, that needs to be maintained by the younger generations and since that generation didn’t have nearly enough kids to replace them on the workplace, all of a sudden the responsibility of caring for all these people fall upon the shoulders of fewer and fewer young people, who are overworked, underpaid and underprivileged. And since the west has been promoting a culture of narcissism since the end of WW2, those old farts couldn’t give a f*ck what the young generations are going trough, so they squeeze out whatever money is left, before the next French Revolution breaks out.
That's not how the Japanese retirement benefit systems work. While you're young enough to work, generally younger than 65 or younger, part of what you earn mandatorily goes to supporting elderlies, the disabled, etc. When you become one of them, it's the younger gens' turn to support the retired, etc. People younger than 48 are younger than the average age, so you can pretty much imagine how many people younger, active gens must assist nowadays.
It’s soon reality - economy won’t be able to afford such a huge number of people retiring with increased need for assistance and pensions while without being productive anymore.
It's funny how the young agree to this bullshit. They forget that one day, their day will come. Let's see if they agree then. Now matter how they cut it. Murder is still Murder..
Didn't japan actually do this before the edo period by leaving the elderly in the woods to die because they saw themselves as a burden to thier family?
There’s not enough young people to take care of the elderly in some countries because they interfered with the natural reproduction numbers. I know China did. I don’t know if South Korea did, but I do know that their numbers are dwindling because I saw it on the news story. There are liberal views in the United States that having children is backwards and old-fashioned, and that women should be free instead of having children. I wonder if our future elderly will be taken care of.
Children are expensive, people just cannot afford them. School shootings and the knowledge that there are pedophiles lurking everywhere, also not helping.
People aren't having children because children are expensive and many families lack the fundamental support that goes into raising children. The people not having kids are the highly educated (idiocracy) because we know children need care and attention I/we cannot give while trying to feed ourselves and them.
@@dropian And who made it nearly impossible by raising the costs? the same ones messing with the birth rates, 3 letter word that starts with w and ends with an f.

The World Bank has this plan in the pipeline
If I were 75 and the government offered me $1000 to off myself I'd take the cash. Then I'd go underground and live for decades on that massive $1,000.
That's chum change. Not enough money to go on the run for. It won't even pay for 1 month's living expenses.
