Back in the day, way back in the day, my mom made and wore this very poncho to all my brother's football games so he could find her in the stands. This brought back so much fun memories. Mahalo ( Thank you in Hawaiian).
You have quickly become my favorite crochet channel! I loved your history on the 70’s but you forgot the most important parts, hip huggers and bell bottoms and the HAIR! We had the best hair styles! FYI, I’m making this poncho AND the antique baby bonnet! I love your channel!!

What a sweet retro pattern! Brings back childhood memories. We aaaaallll wore a poncho in the 70’s here in the Netherlands. It was a real vibe 😂 I remember having one my mom bought me in Italy during the summer holidays. I was the queen of the playing ground for a minute 😂😂
Thank you so much, I really like the green fringe too, and I say it's time to make ponchos a thing again , I wear one at times , I have made myself 3 , but I live in AZ so I don't et too many chances to wer them lol
Oh that poncho was absolutely adorable, as are you. I liked your choice of colors and I liked the green fringe the best! Thanks again for your teaching and time ❤ Nana
As usual - great video and you look great in the poncho. My daughter maintains you have to be happy while wearing a poncho! (Note to self; Make a poncho)
This really is a beautiful pattern and I love how you frequently have oops moments and make mistakes. It helps me feel better when I keep having oops moments. That being said, Row 16 wasn't done right...however it still looks beautiful and no one will be able to tell! Something that is great about crochet. If you start out doing it wrong, just keep doing it the same way. No one will ever know! ❤😂❤
I love this. I was 2 years old in 71' 🤔, it was a great time to be a kid (at least for me). It looks fantastic all put together, I can't wait to make mine with some groovy colors . Thank you for another fun tutorial 🧶, have a great week.
I have been crocheting for 12 years, and I know how to do most of the things. For some reason, I have never, EVER had to use or been shown a stacked single. It's just never come up as an alternative to a double or treble. I absolutely hate the way that the chains leave a huge floppy gap. This looks so much cleaner and fuller. Thank you so much for the lesson! I just found your channel last week and I've been making my way through some of your mystery pattern videos. The bag turned out super! I'm very happy to be a new subscriber. Hugs -Valeri
Your channel is my favorite to listen/watch while I'm working on my crochet projects! You are extremely talented thank you for your hard work on these patterns.
Hi I crochet ponchos in the 70s for children and sold them to a boutique to save money for my wedding.this has brought back happy memories.thanks for doing this.💝💝
I LOVE this pattern!! And your tutorial was wonderful! I'm not generally a big fan of ponchos but I love this one! Maybe because I was a teenager in the '70s and this reminds me so much of that time. Maybe it's because you look so pretty in it. Either way, as soon as I can use my hands again, I'd really like to make this poncho. And I really enjoyed your little history lesson at the beginning of the video! Well done! Thanks so much for this video. I can't wait to watch the next one! xx
Thank you! 😊I really think you will love this poncho! Im so sorry to hear that you are unable to use your hands at the moment, I can't imagine, so I hope you get better fast and get t crocheting sis !! :)
Oh that's gorgeous, I love the colors you picked! And I agree, the green fringe was the choice I would have gone with. Your doggo is adorable... I want him in a matching poncho 😂
i love the history you give along with the pattern! 🥰 i’m only 23 and getting into crochet so i love learning about what went on at the time these were being made! thanks for your videos!!
It must have been at the end of 1968/1969 and I was in elementary school. My parents had a friend coming over wearing this kind of poncho very often. She was named “little crotchet blanket” behind her back, in German: Häkeldeckchen :-) I loved this poncho and asked my grandmother to crotchet me one. What she gladly did.
I love your channel & seeing you bring these older vintage patterns back to life. Im almost done watching it through first & will watch again as I make it along with you. Im a visual learner after my TBI so I really appreciate you going step by step. I also just learned about the stacked single crochets from you on the ends & I agree, it looks so much nicer. I'll only do that from now on. In the 70's I was a little girl & I can still see my ponchos I would wear all the time. I think in a box I still have my store bought navy blue one that had rows of flowers. Mine had slits where you could put your hands through instead of the sides lifting up when you needed to use your hands or lift your arms. Ive not seen anyone make ponchos current day that has those slits. Im curious in your search through old patterns if you've ever run across one like that. Id love to someday see a tutorial on that. I dont trust myself creatively to put that into a pattern myself. Sorry for the long comment but have a question out of curiosity. Do you knot your yarn ends together after a color change before weaving them in? I do knot them first, just concerned after many washings & wear the ends might start coming loose. I know I'm probably committing some kind of crochet sin. 😂 I hope you continue your channel with these vintage patterns for a long, long time. PS- If Im a "fluffier" person shall I say 😉 do I just go up some hook sizes or increase the original chain, therefore increasing the length of each row?
first, Thank you so very much your your kind words :) I do not knot the ends, but I also don't believe in crochet sins lol, I believe that Crochet has a theory but no rules, we are free to do things how ever we want and how ever works for us :) I think knotting them if 100% fine I'm happy to look out for a poncho just like that , and will be very happy to make it :) I thank you so much for your continued support by the way ... you take care
my 70’s fav with arm slits was a cape rather than poncho pattern. My sister knitted it for me. I would think that Tunisian crochet would be fantastic to bring back
I tie my ends after a join. Like you, I don't want something to come apart after I've spent time and money to make it. The poncho with arm holes MAY BE (or may not be) called a cape or capelet rather than a poncho.
I'm almost through with my 1865 shawl, and thought I'd do the 1941 baby bonnet next (have two babies coming later in the year to make that or a blanket for), but now I have to put this on my list. I grew up in the 70's and used to have the coolest poncho and have mentioned it to my daughters often. Now I can make one and show them how great it was!!! Thank you!!! More please!!
Oh, this one is absolutely lovely and you look awesome in it. I won't do this one because there's just too many rows of sc for me. I have ADHD and I wouldn't be able to get past all those rows of sc. Simply lovely!
Oh what a lovely poncho, and I love the green colour choice so much. And! And it looks lovely on you! Just perfect for this time of year. Being quite tall myself I'd likely would have to increase the pattern a little bit widthwise, and also break up the granny squares stitch pattern section with an insert of part of the green repeat section to lengthen the number of rows. Sadly the cheap yarns available in larger stores here in the UK are just that, cheap, and look even more so after a couple of washes. Thankfully I found a lovely recycled acrylic yarn in a local fabric shop, in a nice range of colours, a great feel to it and not at all splitty. I will give this poncho a go after the filet café curtains I'm halfway through for my kitchen curtains. I did wonder what to do next, this will be a nice and easy break from the fine cotton thread yarn, and something practical for the British summer 🌞. Thank you so much for this video, it was such fun to watch! ❤️
I just found this and I Am in Love with it all❤❤❤❤❤ I Appreciate your time and your help with the process you are so kind❤ A Must for me to create since I grew up in the 70s❤ Thank You So Much ❤
That is absolutely stunning! I said I would never make another poncho because they just look Grandma-ish... but this is completely amazing! I love the color choice as well, I have a bunch of the frosty green!!!! That looks fantastic with jeans!
Thank you so much!, Yeah, This one is a must make! I have worn mine out twice now and was complemented both times with one asking if I made it lol, I told her about the video :)
This is stunning! It didn't look lacy in the original pic, so I was thinking it would be a very warm winter poncho. This would be perfect for a summer evening instead! Love your color choices, including using green for the fringe. Another intricate looking piece that you've shown how easy it truly is to make. Thank you for another excellent tutorial!
Looks lovely on you. I bought this pattern and made it in mild green and white. Mild green from I love this yarn and white from red heart. Just finished it tonight. Love it. Thank you.
Ohhhh this is spectacular. I was born in 71 and can't wait to make this. I love this color to. Thanks for sharing this beautiful. It looks awesome and gorgeous on you beautiful.
Thank you very much for sharing. I followed your tutorial and made this Beautiful poncho in light and dark grey which I showed a picture of on my community page. I love this pattern so much I am going to make a few more for gifts next year too.😊
It looks fantastic on you. I have just finished mine. I have been wanting to crochet this for ages. I'm in the Uk but managed to find a similar green because I loved the colours on your one. Thank you for sharing this brilliant tutorial.
Just finished mine & I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!! Thank you for bringing us to all of these vintage patterns, they are some of my favorites!! Also just subscribed to your channel!! Love your videos
I had a poncho in the 60’s/early 70’s, but it was not a cross over style like this. I love ponchos to this day, and this one turned out beautiful. I feel that the green tassels were the best choice. I think I may crochet this one. Thanks for the tutorial. 😊
Oh my gosh!! I’m for sure making this one!! I was a freshman in 1971! And i was crocheting, but we didn’t have access like now! I think most my patterns came from Women’s Day magazine. Keep up sharing patterns! Just love this channel!❤❤
Cool pattern! I appreciate you sharing ur knowledge. The best thing about ur channel is that you know exactly when to say “I’ll be right back after this” Never boring or make me feel like you drone on and on. Keep up the great work!!
I've already watched this once and received 2 mystery boxes from Mary maxim with several skeins of pretty sparkly yarns in gold and blue. I'm going to use them to make this. So cute!
Your tutorial is so clear and concise. I love your poncho. I've only crocheted one garment (following a tutorial) in my life. I would love to try this, but I'm 5'8" and this would look rather short on me.
Enjoy your poncho! it looks great on you, and you have an incredible smile. And as usual, I can think of someone who might like one of these. Why do you do this to me? Never mind the housework, there's crocheting to be done...I guess I can put the laundry off for yet another day...
Omg!! You rocked this poncho girl! I love it!! Especially because I’m a 1971 baby!! I’m gonna have to do this. I think it looks great and can be worn anytime!! 😉❤️
I really like your channel. You are obviously a very skilled crocheter. I learn so many tips and tricks to make the work a perfect piece. your voice is so pleasant to listen to. It is calming and inspiring at the same time. Thank you, greetings from Belgium.
Thank you soooo much for giving your sizes and showing how the poncho fits you! I'm a little bit taller and the same clothing size and weight. I'm definitely making this poncho.
Well I have to say I love this! You look so beautiful! I think I'm gonna have to make this! Thanks for sharing! Hey, from Hiddenite North Carolina!!💜💚🌻🌻
Being born in the early 60s I would be about the right age to have worn something like this. I, however, would imagine that the colour combinations I'd have probably ended up with would have been orange and purple 😁 everything in the UK in the 70s seemed to be orange and purple. Your green was lovely too and would have also been used but more than likely teamed with a bright mustard colour!! Yikes! I'm having flashbacks to psychedelic rainbow days of teenage wardrobe! ☺😍. Beautiful poncho. Thanks for sharing these lovely retro patterns. Can't wait to see what's next. I might have a few old patterns from the 70s/80s hanging about somewhere, I'll have to dig them out. All the best from across the pond. ☺x
fantastic! I hope you do , these are a real treat to work .... and thank you so much, I'm working on our next video as we speak lol :) all the best to you as well from the other side of the pond
I had a poncho in the early 70’s and now I think I am going to have a new one. Thank you! Your channel is so fun, you are very good at reading patterns and giving helpful tips. New subscriber!
I made this poncho following your video and I love it 🥰. Love your channel so much, it's my go to for comfort now. Also now using stacked single crochets everywhere I can 😂 Thank you ❤❤
Oh wow, that's so sweet to hear, thank you , and yes! stacked doubles are the best! :) you can replace your CH 4 for a starting treble for a stacked SC , just work 3 singles instead of the 2 :)

I actually had a 1971 poncho in 1971. It looked different than this one. It was red white and blue 😁
That’s awesome!! 🤗🤗
My step-mom and her mom made us so many different types of ponchos in the 70s. I never had this style. Nice to see them coming back.
I was born in 1984 so the 1970s was before my time
Me too! Mine was red, white, and blue too!
I had one with the same colors!!! Lol

Thank you very much for sharing. I followed your tutorial and made this Beautiful poncho in light and dark grey which I showed a picture of on my community page. I love this pattern so much I am going to make a few more for gifts next year too.😊
Wonderful!
It turned out super cute and looks great on you!
It looks fantastic on you. I have just finished mine. I have been wanting to crochet this for ages. I'm in the Uk but managed to find a similar green because I loved the colours on your one. Thank you for sharing this brilliant tutorial.
It's beautiful you did a great job.Thank you for sharing.
Love the learning about the years I lived in. Born in the 1960's I love a reminder. Love the pattern
Just love this channel!❤❤
thank you! will do :)
So cute!
Oh wow. That turned out really cute and I agree with you on the choice of the green as the fringe. It's perfect.
The 70's were awesome!!!
Your tutorial is so clear and concise. I love your poncho. I've only crocheted one garment (following a tutorial) in my life. I would love to try this, but I'm 5'8" and this would look rather short on me.
I just recently found you. I love your instruction! Thank you for this vintage poncho! I just had to drop my current project to create this!
Wonderful! and thank you :)
Absolutely gorgeous! Both the poncho and you. I'm gonna have to make one now 😅. Thank you 😊

I'm making this with white and variegated satiny gold/silver/white. It's gorgeous.
This is so cute! I like the green fringe the most.
Me too!! and thank you
Enjoy your poncho! it looks great on you, and you have an incredible smile.
Awesome, and thank you!🤗

@@justvintagecrochet you're welcome
Love this channel AND your other chanel! Thank you!!!
fantastic! I hope you do , these are a real treat to work .... and thank you so much, I'm working on our next video as we speak lol :)
all the best to you as well from the other side of the pond
I had a poncho in the early 70’s and now I think I am going to have a new one. Thank you! Your channel is so fun, you are very good at reading patterns and giving helpful tips. New subscriber!
You are so welcome! and thank you :)
Love this pattern !! Going to make for my granddaughter
That's awesome ! she will love it :)
I made this poncho following your video and I love it 🥰.
Love your channel so much, it's my go to for comfort now.
Also now using stacked single crochets everywhere I can 😂
Thank you ❤❤
Oh wow, that's so sweet to hear, thank you , and yes! stacked doubles are the best! :) you can replace your CH 4 for a starting treble for a stacked SC , just work 3 singles instead of the 2 :)
Your so awesome. I wish you where one of my local friends :) I would hang out and crochet with you. Your really good and narrating.
Love love love this! The only thing I’d do different is tighten up the neck line as this would be too wide for me. Excited to make it!😊
Love this your sweet for sharing such a beautiful pattern ❤
Thanks so much 😊
