@@TranscontinentalRailfan the things I am most excited about Reading 2100 being almost ready and Alaska 557 very possibly getting to be an operation again. Also, I do hope that the Mark twain zephyr and flying Yankee restoration projects Make a lot of progress over the next year. But I must say that I am very excited for the progress on the Pennsylvania T1 rebuild.
The Gettysburg Tourist Railroad is returning?! Wow! I hope American Freedom Train 250 pulls a matching consist like the original American Freedom Train.
Unfortunately, there is no confirmation of an American Freedom Train set to tour the country. Reading 2100 will be in AFT livery temporarily and has been invited by several short lines and regional railroads to operate on, once the restoration is complete.
I’d say 2024 was a remarkable year for steam locomotives especially with Canadian Pacific 2816. And I’m also excited for seeing new or arrival such as Chesapeake Ohio 614 New York Central 3001 Nashville, Chattanooga, and St. Louis 576 Alaska railroad 557 and more. I would assume that Santa Fe 2926 will first operate. It’s excursion in 2025 great video bill and Happy New Year.

I hope and expect some big restoration to be announced in 2025. Maybe something like C&IM 551, TVRM 610, or my personal wish and hope, Frisco 1522. The 1522 will have its 100th birthday in 2026. Making restoring it a nice thing to celebrate its 100th year. It needs its flues replaced and I believe a 1472. But if the right place restores it (maybe strasburg for another railroad) then it has the chance of being back in service by 2026. Which would be amazing news to tons of Railfanners. To have the first 4-8-2 in excursion service back would be nice and it would be even better if it ran out of its home in St. Louis so they could get their own steam engine again… one can only dream though. Maybe if the SLSTA gets back together, if the museum wants to run it, or if a different place maybe the NH&I or Valley Railroad wants to. Edit: I also hope for a big part of progress for the T1 trust, maybe frame completion and for the 1361 to get more funding to get it close to operation. Also 425 from Reading And Northern should be back in 2025 and MAYBE if it somehow happens Steamtown can put together B&M 3713
I don’t think NH&I nor Valley Railroad can handle the weight of a 4-8-2 locomotive like 1522. The B&M 3713 restoration is moving at the pace of fundraising, thanks to the Iron Horse Society (Steamtown’s partner).
I'd like to confirm the following steamers returning to operation that I wish you included but I understand: -Ex-Washington & Lincolnton 2-8-0 Consolidation #203, "Lindy", will return to operation in November 2025 for The Three Rivers Rambler's Christmas Lantern Excursions. -The Reading & Northern Railroad's Ex-Great Western 4-6-2 Pacific #425 will return to operation in late 2025 and pull The Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway Excursions out of Jim Thorpe. -Ex-East Tennessee & Western North Carolina Railroad 4-6-0 Ten-Wheeler #12, "Tweetsie", will return to operation following a serious firebox issue that took the engine out of service in August 2024, in April or May 2025.
