Joe Franek is an ordinary man, a baggage handler at an airport in Boston, working in 2001. After not being paid for overtime and facing financial difficulties, he decides to steal a suitcase at his work in retaliation for being blown off by his boss.
But then two planes crash into the World Trade Center, and the suitcase takes on new significance. Upon opening the pilfered bag, Joe discovers something he did not expect: plans for a terrorist attack. The discovery turns his life upside-down in ways he never anticipated, pushing him to think and act in ways he never has before.
Writer-director Abi Damaris Corbin's powerful drama/thriller is cerebral yet propulsive storytelling at its best, with the look and feel and the ambitious narrative scope of a feature. It takes its time to carefully lay out the moving pieces of what becomes a complex gameboard. But as the story unfolds, the pieces fall into place with a weighty sense of inevitability-- and shows how the smallest, seemingly inconsequential details are actually the most crucial.
As with many thrillers, much of the film's initial power rests on an excellent command of craftsmanship. The muted palette, quicksilver editing and a meticulously constructed script efficiently establish character, details and stakes, with a sense of resonance and responsibility. The narrative is actually quite complex and must structure an interlocking chain of events with care and precision, and yet the storytelling moves quickly.
But when the film takes its time to settle upon the central figure of Joe -- a humble everyman with issues, problems and concerns -- he proves to be a grounding figure in this complex narrative. Through actor Mojean Aria's strong performance, Joe gives audiences an anchor as a swirl of circumstances quickens with intensity, as Joe and his fellow baggage handlers watch on TV as two planes crash into the World Trade Center towers.
It's undeniably that much of the poignancy of THE SUITCASE rests on its historical import, on an event that still exerts a powerful influence on geopolitical events and policy today. But it offers a different window to look at the sweeping events of 9/11, one that showcases how the actions and decisions of one seemingly "small" person had an impact on that shocking day.
There were many heroes on the day that the towers fell -- many unacknowledged, unnamed and perhaps lost to the larger sweep of historical memory, but whose roles in the larger mosaic were crucial to saving more lives than we perhaps could ever quantify. THE SUITCASE acknowledges the moral urgency, duty and allegiance to community beyond the individual self at the core of these unnamed people, and asks us to reflect on how speaking up can have a resonance larger than we could ever initially conceive. - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน

There are unknown heroes saving the world from ending every day. And here we are living our lives not knowing that the world almost ended 5 minutes ago. For perspective, there was a Cuban Admiral who didn’t fire on a US vessel. In that vessel there was a US captain who also didn’t fire on the Cuban submarine. This was during the embargo and Cuban missile crisis. Both men on opposite sides disobeyed orders from their superiors, they were dishonorably discharged, and their citizens wanted to execute them. There were protests in DC for bargaining with the enemy. But that day, due to the treason of those 2 men, cooler heads prevailed, and the US and Cuba remain in 1 piece.

He didn’t do anyone’s job. I’m confused what you think he did. You can’t reward someone for breaking the law. That’s called consequtialism, where the ends justify the means. But that’s not true, if they did we’d give up all our freedoms and let everyone go through our bags at will. Did their job? So if they weren’t terrorists and that was your bag, you’d be cool with handlers taking money out of your bag and going through it? He still broke the law, and he wouldn’t have known what he had known without doing so.

19 years ago I was in the 1st grade and I got called out of school early- I thought my mom was taking me out of school for a fun reason. I get home and am sat in front of the TV to see the WTC coming down. my dad was in the NYPD at the time- so i also had a mild understanding that he was there in that mess. my dad was a hero that day and i'm so lucky to have him in my life to this day still.

Same here, I went kindergarten in Newark NJ. My school was on top of a hill, my home room was on the 4th floor. The Hudson River was right across my school, and a little further the Twin Towers in the distance. I’ve never seen so much smoke in my life. I remember seeing an army of coast guard and naval officers in the Hudson River. My mom used to work in Manhattan back then at a Hotel as a maid. The phone lines were not working in the tri state area, there was no way she could contact my grandfather to come pick me up. And the PATH train to Newark NJ from 33rd street Manhattan was closed for obvious reasons. She had to stay in the hotel where she worked for 2 days before finally being able to come home.
On a side note, my grandfather eventually came to pick me up.
My brother and I were homeschooled at the time, I was 12 at the time. I remember when I woke up, my parents were watching the whole thing on the news. And because my father was enlisted in the military and could have been deployed to Afghanistan, we had to be put back in regular school. Thankfully he was never deployed to war.

I was in 5th grade when 9/11 happened. I was studying in Peshawar, a city on the Pak-Afghan border. My school was shut down for 3 months after 9/11 happened because of the constant bombardment by America in Afghanistan the government was afraid Peshawar might get hit too. Also, because Pakistan was helping the US to carry out those attacks there was danger of terrorist attack by the Afghan Militants. At the time i just found it very weird that some tower blowing up half way across the world meant i couldn't go to school and neither could any of my friends. My school was shut down again when US was invading Iraq. Again, i felt like that was just pointless and felt angered by the whole ordeal.
Years later, after my graduation, in December of 2014 my school was attacked by the Taliban when 6 gunmen entered the school and opened fire killing 149 people including 132 childern and the mother of my good friend who was the principal of the school at the time, she was blown up by a grenade after she refused to disclose the location of the kids who were hiding in the school.
I feel like Pakistan is like the protagonist in the film. Had the best intention at heart, paid a huge price tryna do the right thing while getting blamed for it.
I am a flight attendant, and often times I am the most junior one on majority of my flights since I work with people that are flying for over 30-40 years. Whenever I see our gate agents, luggage handlers and maintenance crew, I offer them a drink or give them a pax water bottle to take with them. I get told by some senior FAs that I make them look bad or spoil these people and raise their expectations. I disagree! Everyone that works at the airport plays a part in bringing loved ones together, and taking millions of people home safely. We are all equal regardless of the uniforms we wear. This man is a hero.

@Beate Zackey Better expand the research dont just rely on the credits. That the bag was owned by Mohammed Atta was true. However authorities zeroed in on it because Atta was already identified through a previous phone call from a flight attendant. That there is a bag handler, with intent of theft, who discovered it, bravely rode into the tarmac, and informed the authorities, it is fiction.

Taking into account that he knew the risk but went through all those length to let them know his findings, they could have fired him but also "rewarded" him for having the courage to speak up even when his job was at stake. This video has to be the most amazing things I have ever saw on You Tube. It pulled me in and the ending just blew me away. I never knew about that piece of baggage before I watched it. Although the ending was bittersweet, the unnamed man saved countless lives.

I remember when the trade centers went down I was in Kindergarten. I didn't really understand the impact of what happened back then but anytime I see something or interviews from 9/11 it puts a pit in my stomach. This is so well done it actually brought me to tears. It breaks my heart what the unnamed man went through but he was a hero. I hope wherever he is he's living a good life and he knows what he did was amazing in the end.

I saw the second plane hit. Most of the rest of the day I was either crying or just numb. I remember that the church near my house was ringing their bells and I started praying for everyone on the planes, at the towers and at the pentagon.

I'm unsure if the script is authentic, but Mohamed Atta's luggage didn't make AA11 because he connected from Portland, ME. According to the actual baggage handlers, they closed the plane before Atta's suitcase made it. FAA regulations required the tarmac to be cleared ten minutes before departure.
Amy Sweeney called American Airlines and confirmed the identities of all hijackers before the flight crashed. It was forwarded to the FBI and the bags were searched that night.

You are officially one of my all time HEROs in every true sense of the word. Thank you for doing what NEEDED to be done, even when you knew it was going to be insane trouble for you. What lives did he save? I was a little distracted while watching, but I don't think he did anything but reveal the names.
My dad was in the WTC during the attack for work. When the first plane hit, he thought it was just the sounds of the city when he says he heard a voice say “it’s not a drill. Run.” He left his office after alerting his coworkers and boss and looked up to see the second plane hit. He called my mom and my grandma mother tell them he was alright and began to run to the docks to wait for a boat. His boat dropped him off coincidentally at his jobs emergency work station and ran inside to get back to work with other coworkers that caught up. He tells me that story every year and it still makes me cry knowing he saw that.

Well, as my uncle being a firefigheter level 9 floor jumper this brings back all the ptsd he`s had running through the streets because of the traffic and he just vividly remembers watching United 175 hitting the 2nd tower and his best friends yelling NO NO NO NOO then him and his friends just sprinted then got there and he got a call saying it was about to collapse and btw they closed the doors behind him and them so they all had to jump at the same time from the 9th floor and just book it and his best friend David had to stay back and hold up the plank to let them jump, man I just feel blessed that most of his friends and him made it out and this was only his 2nd year as a firefighter, and I was only 9 at the time my friends and I skipped school to go have a fun day our moms let us and we were planning to go to the world trade center to go to the top and look through the scopes and the skyline and I do remember seeing the 1st plane hit and that was it I cant remember anything else besides hearing people scream and just my friends and I looking back and seeing 175 hit then just running back to my friends Darrens house, wow just that was a day that changed everything and my friends and I were machine fanatics and we immediatly knew this was no accident

BUT THE ONE THING I REMEMBER VIVIDLY WERE THE PEOPLE JUMPING AND FALLING OUT OF THE BUILDINGS. I HAD NIGHTMARES FOR A LONG TIME AFTER SEEING THAT AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE...EVEN NOW I HAVE A HARD TIME WHEN I THINK ABOUT IT ALMOST 20 YEARS LATER...

I do remember it and I can tell u it was horrific, watching the 1st tower then the 2nd come down was scary but as the day progressed and more and more info came in and then the Pentagon??? It was like watching and living a true nightmare. A feeling like no other and unexplainable.

How ironic! I am an AvGeek (super obsessed with anything airplanes and aviation), a 9/11 devotee , AND I'm from Boston! It's like this whole film was made for me to watch!

The dude's acting is brilliant.

I was at work. One of my co-workers said his wife called him and told him a plane crashed into one of the towers. We all shook our heads. A little bit later, he got another call from his wife. She told him "No this is another one." We all just looked at each other. Nobody had to say anything. We knew.

I'm 71 and I still wonder about JFK, the Iran Contra affair, 9/11, and the reason to go to war with Iraq. I'm not a conspiracy theorist. But I just have questions. I always have. But this fella here in real life, I can't imagine what he went through when he knew what he knew and it turned out to be true. He should have got a medal of honor from the president.

I'm glad this film was made because i had no idea about this. Its unfunny how those who deserve good rarely get it in life and just get trampled on and forgotten. I hope the baggage handler went on to live a good and contented life even without the acknowledgement he deserved. Such is life.
