In this video we go over the Anta KAI 1:
As Kyrie’s first signature shoe with Anta, this makes a great purchase - but preferably NOT at over retail price… Cushion is much better than most of his previous signature shoes with Nike, featuring a full-length NitroEdge midsole. The softness and responsiveness both surpass his other shoes previously, but the court feel does not feel like a typical “Kyrie”. Traction is only slightly above average, as this outsole barely squeaks even on a clean court. I had moments where my feet were sliding a little bit, so not as good of a grip as I expected. You can go true to size in US sizing, for wide footers you might need to go half size up to offset the snug toe box and relatively short length. No major issues with the stability and support, however heel lockdown isn’t the best and this is nowhere near being a lightweight shoe. To summarize my experience with a comparison: I would personally take their Shock Wave 5 Pro over the KAI 1.

Shockwave 5 PRO have a much more quality than Kai 1. Much better to wear on court than Kai 1
In the Philippines, the price is around 145 USD.
I went half size down on these and I never have heel lockdown problem.
Heel lockdown is so bad in these ... They tend to go hot but other than that it's a great shoe.

Copped the Enlightened Warrior colorway when they dropped. Traction has been insanely good (haven’t NEEDED to wipe yet) after playing on multiple courts. Haven’t had a heel slip issue at all but I did go TTS and I wear athletic socks so…maybe that’s why. The containment is the best out of most of my shoe collection with how wide the base is in the heel and forefoot! The cushion is a welcomed factor given Kyrie’s shoes have never been known for that. I definitely would say they are the most comfy Kyrie out of his entire shoe line with Nike. These have stayed in my rotation and that says a lot due to how many basketball sneakers I own lol. Anta killed it!!!
I agree more with your assessment more than the video review, it’s definitely above average performance, nice cushion , no lockdown issues, and the traction is really good! no slipping and minimal to no wiping on semi dusty court…… I have 2 pairs and in my opinion it competes with my top performance shoes that I own such as the Way of Wade 10 and air Jordan 38 …. Also you make a good point about the socks, gotta make sure you are wearing the right socks for the shoes!
@@dthreezy Yeah I appreciate Tommy’s unbiased reviews. No disrespect to his preferences at all. For me, these reach ELITE status. I own the WoW 10’s, LBJ 20/21/Nxxt Gen, Harden Vol. 7/8, SPO Player 1 Plus and then some but I still go for these most of the time. I think I love the containment and traction the most out of these shoes. I can get ANYWHERE I want with them on the court confidently. Cushion is well balanced throughout the shoe which, I feel, complements the extremely flat/wide outsole. It’s crazy because when I take these off and put my LBJ’s on, I instantly notice the stability difference. My ONLY gripe with the Kai’s is that they ARE doing this “limited stock” method. Tommy was spot on with that. I wish all brands would kill that sales method altogether.

Kidding aside, this is exactly what I felt when I first saw Kai1 in person and tried fitting those. Images look better than seeing it closely and yes, not a wide-foot friendly shoe at all. I’m a size 12 nike/adidas/lining/wow but this Anta Kai1, I needed at least size 12.5 but a lot better at size 13.

Thanks! I liked the 4 and 5 A LOT. Never played in the 1. The last one is actually a banger too (8 not Infinity) that traction is god-tier and surprisingly pretty bouncy too. 4 is probably my favorite.
kai 1's are elite but is really good for the medium built instead of the lighter side, have used it as my go to shoes

They are great performers, I have 2 pairs of the Kai 1….. I was kinda shocked at his review…. I’m an avid hooper that owns over 50 pairs of basketball shoes, I have Way of Wade 10, Jordan 38, Kobe’s, KDs and the Kai1s are right there with them in terms of performance in my humble opinion
@@dthreezyI am curious on why the Kai 1 is on the top of your list because 1.) traction is mid-high tier but not better than Nike Kyries (2,3)
2.) Cushion is average at best, impact protection/court feel is just adequate , nothing new to write about
3.) Fit is okay but not glovelike or snug like kobes
Maybe aesthetic wise 10/10 but if compared to the performance to other top tier shoes 🤷

The mothers day colorway uses a different outsole. It is a gumsole, at least it is yellow so no need tl worry it turning yellow.

I think the introduction is crucial though; Anta needs to be called out for their limited edition antics, making this almost impossible to get. Not to mention they they cost closer to $160 USD here in my country. Hard pass for me, more so since its no elite performer.
Yeah hunger marketing. Not a typical Anta move but oh well I guess they gotta evolve, especially after signing such a big name.
In the Philippines, good luck getting that shoe at $125 because they cost around $180-200+ depending on the colorway and retailer/reseller. Anta "limited stock" always has been like this. Wish Kai could've gone to Li-Ning.

Hi. Anta has an official site for the US now, and no different sizing. A lot of the Nike Kyrie’s I needed to size up, these fit true to size unless you have very wide feet.

Hi tommy, so i play outdoor and i wanna buy a new shoe (chinese brand) and i was planning to buy yushuai 18 ultra but it’s expensive so i might change my mind so for the meantime the other options is liren 4 and ac 12, and are the yushuai 18 normal better than those 2 shoes? if u have any other suggestions pls let me know , thank you❤
Hey, those two are both very good options for outdoors. Yushuai 18 is excellent too I’ve been using it for quite a while (regular version), wouldn’t say it’s “better” but same level performance wise.

I have been following you for a while already and appreciate the expertise that you share with us.
I have a quick question about the sizing: Some say that stay TTS as your Nike Basketball shoes, while some say go at least 0.5 size up since these shoes run smaller. Even the sizing tag inside the shoe is shorter 1 cm from typically US sizing compared to Nike's (i.e. Nike US11 = 29 cm, while Anta's US11 = 28 cm typically). What would bother me is the shoe being short, I would not have so much issues with the width, I have narrrow-to-normal feet, but a rather longer one. Particularly my big toe is so big compared to my under fingers that it becomes irritating at some point when it punches the end of the shoe often, not to mention the immediate vertical hard stops. What would you recommend me?

Just wondering if you can help me out choosing a shoe i should buy. I am currently looking at either these or the wade all city 12 encores. I am a shifty, explosive light & small guard that plays only on indoor courts (some are super clean but also some are pretty dusty) I want to be comfortable and have a bit of bounce in my shoes while also having good shock absorbance. Also I dont want any heel slippage. If there's any small things people might have left out in their reviews about either of the shoes that would also help thanks
