      Tim Ho Wan is like McDonald in Dim Sum. Thus I seldom go there since you can have the same standard in the majority of local chinese restaurants. It is famous because it gets Michelin one star. To Hong Kong public, Michelin guide sucks in this one. If you hand out Michelin to TIm Ho Wan, you need to give out several dozens of michelin stars.

      @Alex-bb1xn 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@catchnkill Totally agree, mate. I don’t understand the hype with Tim Ho Wan. It’s pretty standard fare, nothing special. I agree with your analogy that it’s basically the McDonald’s of dim sum. To say that Tim Ho Wan is the best dim sum is like saying that your favourite pizza joint is Domino’s.

Tim Ho Wan is absolutely one of the best Yum Cha in the city but unfortunately Hawker Chan is definitely not the best Soya Chicken/Grilled Duck you could find here. I would recommend Pacific BBQ House at South Yarra as theirs are way succulent and flavourful to me.
    I also went to Hawker Chan during Covid and they were having a huge fly infestation at that time. Literally the ceiling near the kitchen was covered by flies and to my disappointment, their staff didn't do anything to eliminate the flies. That has put me off.

    Hi Blondie. I am from Hong Kong and wud like to fill up some info about the dim sum you had.
    We dont usually called those place chachanteng, bcoz chachanteng seldom do dim sum, we rather call it dim sum restaurant or dim sum place.
    For the snow top char siu bao (雪山叉燒包), it was developed from char siu chan bao (叉燒餐包). Char siu chann bao was one of the staple in Hong Kong dim sum, it was long b4 the existence of tim ho wang. We believe that is orginated from Hong Kong, since the dish was a cross over between Canton dim sum and Western bakery.
    The Canton char siu bao (the white skin one), is made with the same dough as 菜肉包, 饅頭, 奶皇包 etc, it is a steamed bun with char siu filling inside.
    Char siu chan bao 叉燒餐包, is made with the same filling like char siu bao, but the outside is brioche, it is a baked bun and usually brused with golden syrup on top after baking.
    In the old days (20yrs ago), most dim sum restaurant in Hong Kong serves both versions of char siu bao, now is more like one or the other.
    The tim ho wang snow top char siu bao is more similar to char siu chan bao.

      @@TheLeolee89 its bcos u dont see char siu chan bao in restaurants often nowadays, so you might think thats derived from Pineapple bun. Also, the crispy skin on the snow mount char siu bao is not exactly the same as pineapple bun. It is simliar but no thr same, I wud say that crispy skin us more like 'mexican bun' (mak sai gor bao).

    • @TheLeolee89
      @TheLeolee89 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@polkakun6765 char siu chan bao is quite common in Malaysia. Though, it isn't sold in a restaurant.
      "crispy skin on the snow mount char siu bao is not exactly the same as pineapple bun. It is simliar but no thr same, I wud say that crispy skin us more like 'mexican bun' (mak sai gor bao)." - I see. So, something like less denser version of pineapple bun.

    I'm in Canada and for me I think 8 bucks for a dish of dim sum, specifically baos and stuff is expensive rather than average, I know dim sum with seafood likw Har Gow would be around 6-8 at a fancier yum cha restaurant but baos tend to be cheaper at around 4-5/dish. But $21 for half a duck is a great price and only $51 for 4 meats is an amazing deal! It's like ~$25 for half a duck here and it's not even from a fancy or well known chinese BBQ store

    @14.25. XO signifies 'most premium' in newer Chinese lingo, as it is the highest rating for Cognac.
    Most Cognacs, among the best of brandies, are ranked -- VS, VSOP, XO by their ages -- with XO (Extra Old) being the oldest and usually most expensive. When entertaining clients, Chinese, Hong Kong and Taiwanese businessmen like to order XO to impressive. (Hennessy and Camus are among the most popular.) So, when a premium sauce was created, I believe first in Hong Kong, the sauce was dubbed XO in a nod to XO Cognacs.
    However, I can't tell if that's actually an XO sauce in the video, which contains dried scalloped, dried shrimp, garlic..., but each restaurant may do it a little differently.

    I'm so hangy right now... Hannover still has lock down... No dimsum joint open... Äh.. Favorite dimsum is sliced duck meat with jellyfish... Maybe only available in Rotterdam, Holland!

    If you’re still in Melbourne, try Food factory near southern cross, I think they’re better than hawker chan.
    These are also something worth trying:
    Tengri Tag in Dandenong, Xinjiang Uighur food, their big plate chicken and bbq lamb skewer is amazing.
    Classic Sichuan Restaurant in Box Hill, Their pork hock soup (蹄花汤) is the best.
    Chilli Queen of Hunan in Carnegie, by far one of the best Hunan food in Melbourne.
    Colourful Yunnan in Carlton. If you want to try some Yunnan food, that’s the best place to go.
    Soi 38 in Melbourne, one of the most special Thai food in Melbourne located near parliament inside a car park. Their BBQ and Thai hotpot is amazing. And they have the best Thai noodle / rice soup in Melbourne.
    Chicken episode in St Kilda, you will find the best Korean Fried chicken here and you can challenge yourself to a super spicy but delicious chicken wing. Make sure you order original flavour.
    David Malatang, Melbourne. Well, almost everybody in Melbourne know they are amazing.

    tried TIM HO WAN once before in Sydney, not bad but not not that good, honestly. Maybe the original on in HK is much better and authentic. Sydney actually has lots of traditional yumcha restaurants to try and experience. This just reminds me of going in this Easter holiday 😄

    Hi Amy....two restaurants i think you can give a shot...Haidilao ( I'm sure you tried before but we'd like to see your parents reaction) and chiway in burwood (Shanghainese cuisine, which is very authentic from my view)...and any good peking duck in Sydney you'd recommend???

      I would split the bill just to eat a bite of everything he ate and then watch him eat everything else! Would be worth more than going to the theater at the same price 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Nice 'loophole' Blondie. Yes, one of everything is the best way, especially with friends to split the tab. About chicken feet and other meat dishes, Asian food is preferred with bones.
    Eating a hunk of meat without bone actually quite boring and less tasty. Keep it up with the food videos! Much appreciated.

    Overseas have many traditional Chinese food, becoz of migrant, and the rise of demand in China, so, many, almost all of them get dim sum from factory/standardized kitchen, instead of make by themselves(there are still some restaurant making it, and some dishes as the signature dishes remain make in the restaurant)

    The now TimHoWan(s) in Hong Kong is not as good as when it was a small eatery first opened in MongKok years ago. The TimHoWan in Melbourne is just disappointing... compare to what I had in Hong Kong...
    Xifan is cute!

    XO sauce means a super delicious sauce, just like the XO grade of French cognac.
