I grew up listening to 90s rock and everything in between but I like new country ( I know it sucks so bad to classic country listeners) but this is one that you can throw in the classic country guys face, on par with Chris Stapleton
I heard this song when it first came out but only bits and pieces. So much to that fact I couldn't even look it up because I didn't know who the artist was. Everytime I heard it I was in conversation and couldn't listen. I know it had a rhythm that was spooky, mysterious but once again couldn't and didn't know what it was but tried like hell to find it because certain words reminded me of the past. Finally months later I'm flipping through CMT and I catch it from the very beginning. Of all the times I did hear it, I couldn't put it together. Then BAM, 30yrs comes rushing back,,,, like it was yesterday. A woman I loved dearly and the song described us perfectly. All those old feelings, all those old memories hit me in my chest like a sledge hammer and my throat tightened up just like the first time we went out. As I listened to the words I relived a time when I was a different person than today, relived the time shared with her that could not be replaced but knew it couldn't last. It's amazing how a song can put you in your past to just want to sit there and shut your eyes, take a deep breath for once was. 30yrs later,,,,I still miss her. I guess this song proves that.
