The tractor you guys looked at in the shed, that Grant referenced as a 3010. My Grandpa, god rest his soul, completely restored an old tractor that is very similar to that one. My Grandma still has it in Kansas. It's not for sale or anything, but your video just reminded me of it and, well, memories of my grandpa.

That one is a 3020 gas power shift. You can tell by the shifter and the PTO lever is on the right hand side.

You can't beat a 4020. We had one throughout the 1960's. It did everything we asked it to do. It's good to see one being used in this day and time. Good for you.

You need a hydraulic Hose crimper for the farm anyways. Get bulk hose and the ends, and a chop saw to cut the steel reinforced hose, and some fresh tires for the implements. 13:01

    First, farmers are the best.
Second, all the skills and knowledge to run so many different pieces of equipment. City folk, they can run their automatic trans car and their mouth. That’s bout it.
Finally, the trust that each farmer has for another farmer. That’s earned, not demanded, not expected.

The 4020 had issues when used with a front loader, you can pull the lugs thru the rim when turning with a load, the front axle was leak and subject to cracking, and the supply pump stopped pumping when the clutch was depressed causing loss of power steering, stopping the PTO, no brakes, yeah a design issue. The ultimate old tractor would be the 4230, it is the ultimate 4020, and the ultimate Front End Loader was made in Texas and Oklahoma, the model 784 Quik-On, you could even upgrade it to 3 1/2" cylinders , it had 5/16" lower frame, CT&D cylinders ( same MFG as the JD 158 ) 13' 6" lift height, and was designed to last 75 or more years, I liked that you can take it off and on with no stands, no tools in about one minutes....it also came in matching JD green with yellow/black shadow decals...I always hated the black or yellow loaders other companies produced.

Ah, the joys of used machinery, and doing "field engineering" to get the job done. The latter is a skill lost on much of the younger generations--I'm glad to see that you are keeping such knowhow alive. Also, a good illustration of why 4WD pickups are so popular in farm and ranch country. I've owned 4WD pickups since 1971. They have become almost a necessity in rural America.

To keep the disc from swaying back-and-forth attach a come a long or tight chain from one side of the disc only to the hitch. The disk will no longer sway being pulled down the road as fast as you want.

This video brought back some memories for me. I worked for an old German farmer in south central Kansas when I was in middle school in the late 1970s. He was a very strong Christian man and his wife could cook some excellent lunches. He had a 3010 tricycle tractor which he used for cultivating his row crops, it was a little unstable so I didn't like operating it and then he had a 3020 with duals on the rear which was his tillage tractor. Back then farms and equipment were a lot smaller than they are today. He only had about 300-400 acres total farm ground and raised hogs but back then it was enough to feed a family quite comfortably...

at 17:35 in the video, that JD grain drill in the background would be a PERFECT implement for a beginning farmer and for great video content. Bear in mind, the equipment you are buying and the scale of what you are doing is what a LOT of people are using/doing now for homesteading and creating food plots on hunting properties. This is what is driving the prices of older equipment so high in our area. You see a lot of people using no-till drills on TH-cam a lot, but there's not a lot of people who are actually buying them for $25K and up. What you are doing is going to get a LOT of interest. Operating the area around your house as if it were a homestead, with only the kind of equipment you are picking up, would add a whole new audience to your channel. Especially if you are showing how to go thru the equipment and get it running again, as well as how to use it.

I recommend an International Hydro for a loader tractor. I'm an Allis Chalmers man but the IH hydro with a loader is an easy older tractor to use for projects that require a loader. Allis all the way for field work! D-17 for around the farm work and a D-19 or D-21 for field work! the plus side for buying older 1960's, 1970's and 1980's Farm tractors are a great choice because that is before tractors got really complicated. I have a 1967 AC D-15 and a 1948 AC G tractors and they run like a top. funny how something that is 57 years old and 76 years old can run better then some newer tractors. I don't recommend the AC G unless you have the specific attachments for it. It's a very cool design of a tractor but really needs the attachments to be an effective farm tractor. If you watch just a few acres farm, his winter project are buying old tractors and full restoring them over the winter! I really like the fact you guys are starting this as a part of your channel, I hope you keep it up!!!

Pulled that disk with an IH1206. 4 years, back in 1974. Leaned real quick what bolts I needed to carry in the tool box. Spring assist on the wings, but they were still very heavy. Only one hydraulic circuit on the old 1206. Pulled an AC 7/16" moldboard plow on land with that 1206. As I look at the new equipment out on the planes, I say WOW. But were I worked in NJ, they still run the same size equipment. Thanks for the memories.

Thanks Laura. My dad loves watching your channel and told me to watch it. I have watched a few of your videos and I have seen you interact (like this video) with $100,000 dollar pieces of equipment, and some $500,000 pieces of farm equipment, and I see you driving 2022 Dodge Ram 2500 trucks and I also see that you are probably in your 20's, maybe 30, I don't know. This leads me to believe one of very few possibilities: 1) you inherited a great business from your father or grandfather or other relative. 2) You must have won the lottery at a young age. or 3) You sunk yourself into alot of debt. 4) Perhaps a combination of two or more of those realities. I can't find any mention, in any of your videos of you giving thanks to any other person for having 'established you', so I am left to believe that you won the lottery or something. It just seems like if someone inherited that much, that the recipient would not go around posting videos making it look like they themselves achieved that level of wealth. Or maybe I missed the video of you explaining all of it. To me it just looks like young people trying to get into farming, who parent's left them nothing but some suggested TH-cam videos to watch, are supposed to think that they can never achieve a level of success within their generation - or compare themselves to an heiress, who never really tells her watching fans that she is actually an heiress of a man that actually built the business. Or maybe he didn't. Maybe he put it on credit.

Road trips are fun for buying used toys! The problem arises when you get too many projects going at once and you've bitten off more than you can chew. That $200 piece probably could've been abandoned at a convenient roadside spot if it couldn't be parted out. I too used to go old equipment shopping, but I've learned to focus on what I love to do best, TRAVEL! Can't wait for the next installment!

I started dairying with exactly that kind of equipment. Partly that’s all I could afford. Next is I didn’t value my time too highly and I would fix the stuff as I had time. You probably have as much money in it over time as a better one but it bothers your cash flow a little at a time.
Lastly, what you learned in making the repairs lasts a lifetime and you can keep some of those $200 an hour people off your farm and do more yourself.
I now have a much larger operation and still do much of our own buildings, fabrication and repairs. Very satisfying. You are on the right track. In my opinion…..😂
