I paid into Social Security for 45 years. How does count as an entitlement?
Social Security and Medicare ARE “entitlements.” That’s why they’re called “entitlements”; because the people who paid into them are legally and duly ENTITLED to them.
Unfortunately the word “entitled” has been given a negative and inappropriate association because it’s used to describe people who feel they’re owed more than they should be; i.e., people who have an INAPPROPRIATE sense of entitlement. But this has been shortened to just being “entitled” without the context of it being inappropriate. This has bled over to the idea that “entitlements” is somehow a negative when it’s not. “Entitlements” IS the correct and appropriate term because the people who earned those benefits are actually entitled to them. By buying into that negative association, people are allowing these politicians to reframe the discussion into a negative. Don’t do that. “Entitlements” is the correct term and should not have such a negative association.

Those are entitlement programs. We spent years paying into those programs so we are entitled to them. That’s not the reason the debt is out of control.
Trump is responsible for over 1/4 of the national debt. He did this in one term. Add the baseless corporate welfare Rs allow and grossly unfair tax laws and we find the reasons. Getting Big/Dark $ out of our elections/govt. and the wealthy merely paying their fair share would correct this entirely.

My son too. He is Developmentally Disabled. So there's lot of issues there. He can't make it without SSI & Beneficiary Soc. Security.

I'm totally disabled to, I don't know how the republicans are just taking from SSI and Medicare programs away from us. I barely make it with the SSI and SSDI, I can't work anymore. If we let the republicans run out of money dig in their own pockets and pay for it,we need our SSI and SSDI.
These are not entitlements they are benefits we all pay for from our first day of work.

I have been working since 1973, am on Social Security now. If they faze out these programs the government need to cut every individual a cashier check for the money they put into the system.
