Late reply but, I can go back and watch all the LOTR and Hobbit films and they all still look as good as if they were released today. First 3 Harry Potter films have aged horribly.

HP is magical and as technology became more advanced a shitload of options suddenly became availabe which makes the latter half of the HP somewhat timeless. LOTR on the other hand is set in a medieval time and is mostly focused on incredible fight scenes and straight up glorious locations. I'm not saying that, that is how it works, as I in general have no idea about movies and the creation of them, but I would assume there is somewhat of a connection regarding the "universe" in which the film is being made.
