Being homeless does not entitle you to go and sleep wherever you want. Public spaces have intended uses that should not infringe on the rights of others.

And it's nearly 100% about drug addiction and unproductivity, not rent.

I feel for people but I agree with the park rule.
People bringing their kids to a park to find trash, tents, & needles.

How will a homeless person pay a $300 ticket for sleeping outside?

Jennifer Freidenbach has made the homeless and drug addiction problem much WORSE during her tenure. She's one of the. main reasons why the city can't do much to help fix this problem. She blocks it. She wants to perpetuate tent encampments, drug addiction and mental illness being left untreated. Many of these people on the streets using drugs have housing. They don't stop using drugs. They don't have jobs. SHE has been a major key player in making this issue as bad as it is now.

The government could create a more organic safety net by simply giving very generous tax breaks to homeowners who rent out a room, For mother-in-law cabin On their property, Or possibly a regulated RV in their home.
The income the homeowner gets from it would be non taxable. As well as they could take advantage of home improvement tax breaks. This would mean that they would rent out their rooms to people before they actually hit the street and fell into a state of non employability. It's important to catch people at that point while there's still employed but realized they are heading into homelessness for whatever reason. Of course many will still fall short of this safety net. But by making it a national program Homeowners will be encouraged financially to seek out candidates who are still employed and in somewhat good health and condition. This would also lower the cost of renting apartments due to have fundamental migration from high priced home and apartment rentals to low cost room rentals. Of course local regulations would be needed to fit each geographic area. But formalizing it in this way would help homeowners who are on the brink of losing their homes as well as the homeless and then near homeless.

If cities allow camping anywhere, then how will they be able to enforce building codes and sanitation codes on homes? that would be a double standard. For instance, if you allow someone to camp in a park and erect a makeshift dwelling or fence/barrier, then how can you charge a homeowner money and require a permit for building or putting up a fence?

Home insecurity causes mental illness; there's a lot of people that are experiencing mental health issues right now because they can't afford their rent anymore 😮

Mental problem have nothing to rent. Big problem is they are put money unless service like shelter and beds like somebody want to place in a room full stranger who might have aid, HIV, or any unsafe environment also they worry about they they will get stolen. Closed all the shelter down and the outreach program, and just put people into apartment with conquence, that not hard 😒

Being homeless is not a crime. It's the junk and garbage that the unhoused keep lying around their tents. I bet if they kept the area clean, and the men wore suits and tie, and the ladies wore nice dresses. Than maybe other people will think that homelessness could happen to anybody.

Open drug use needs to be a felony, if a homeless working guy wants to drink maybe he can afford to live someplace where there's cheap motels. I've lived in plenty of cities and have been homeless but never slept outside except on the high plains, small City very hot summer

They should only offer assistance to people that are drug free (ever marijuana) and alcohol free. Anyone has any substance addiction should get assistance and hard time if they refuse.

    • @lyndsay4153

they do. They also offer assistance to people that are on drugs. They get cash, food stamps, food delivery, clothing, clothing vouchers, mental health services, medical and dental services, housing, etc etc etc. There are many options for people here in California, especially San Francisco. That's one of the main reasons why we have so many people in this situation. People come from all over the United States to San Francisco because of cheap/easy access to drugs, no criminal prosecution for illegal activities, housing and assistance.

they should be given a direction and if they refuse the help, then so be it we need to beable to have safe streets. life is about decisions, every decision matters. if you decide to refuse offered help well thats a choice isn't it? i see 4 choices, get rent help(hud, and property based section 8), maybe shelters(takes you as long as your not on drugs), leave the area, or end game, with a way to clear your record. doing nothing is not a option

Drugs user can be anybody, some celebrity user drugs, Walmart employee, a who person live an apartment or house. The same goes for people who have mental problem, they can live house, apartment, mobile home, outside. They trying to use that as excuse to not help poor. If they help illegal immigrants to get apartment, job and a car with through their situation, they can help our own native born Americans.
