    I own a 1976 r75/6
I have owned it since around 1993 and for years it was my daily transport without really thinking about it much at all.
It’s been around the clock and has been sitting in the back of the garage under a cover forgotten about for years.
It’s only recently that I have started to appreciate what a gem it is, albeit covered in cobwebs . Lucky me I think, I would never sell it, but now appreciate it more than I ever have. I am lucky to own an original unmolested standard bike with astronomical mileage which is a testament to it rather than an issue. My own “ barn find “. I don’t feel the need to restore it, but intend to put it back on the road where it belongs - complete with battle scars as a true survivor.

When I was a kid I thought these were ugly and that the later ones were nicer, but now I feel the opposite.. this is a truly beautiful machine. I have a oilhead r1100 RT myself, nice and well made but I fell feel yours is special.

I really appreciate it! I was the same way about the Porsche 911 when I was kid... I thought it was so ugly, but now I think it's one of the most beautiful cars ever designed. Funny how things change as we get older. Your r1100 RT is an amazing machine, too! I would love to have one some day. Unfortunately, my R75/6 found a wonderful new home, so I'm back to the drawing board for Beemer bikes, and maybe an r1100 RT is something for me to look into in the future. Thank you again for the very nice compliment on the bike!

Try a bottle of Techtron fuel system cleaner for the slow start. It’ll probably help a lot. Great bike!

So sad, sold mine 3 years ago. An electronic ignition is that you need. Never a slow start like that. Also, go with LEDs everywhere.

Beautiful bike, I thought that the /6 had rear disc brakes

I don't think any airhead got rear disc brakes. The /6 was the first to get them at the front, even though the R60/6 still didn't even get them as standard. Mine still has a drum at the front. I think airheads did get twin front discs from 1980 onwards though

@@SterkeYerke5555Leider nicht.Meine R80 von 1986 hat vorn auch noch eine Einzelne Bremsscheibe.

@@norberthaase1697 Pretty sure the R100RS got twin discs? I'm not too surprised the R80 didn't, though it would've been nice regardless. Does your R80 have the Brembo brake system rather than ATE?
