Interesting stuff Jon. I fished that same peg some years ago in a Civil Service match. The marginal lily beds were much smaller. Like you, I caught hard against the island on dead maggots. Fed the margins by the lilies with caster and caught there later in the day. Had little joy on larger baits like meat and pellets. Caster caught most fish for me. Came nowhere in the match with around 60lb. The margin swim was still getting stronger at the end. I reckoned I should have fished there earlier. Great cat.

Great looking peg with nightmare lilly's to contend with. I certainly learnt a number of things to do. (heavy duty rigs and elastic.) Very unlucky i think with the lost fish costing you. Great Video, will watch it a few more times to help me fine up my fishing. Well done Jon.

You had me on the edge of my seat watching this, this is a great insight into the world of fishing bad pegs, you did well out of a suicide peg Jon, the air would probably have been blue with fish snagging me or "falling off" I've had a few pegs like this and worse being in a parrot cage when they fall off rig goes straight into the tree's 😎😎😱
Thankfully they have FINALLY listened and chopped the lilies right back on this lake. Phew!

I won the local city feeder competition yesterday, caught 8,134 kg of fish. took 2nd place and the prize was Matrix picker rod 40 gr.

i think you fished it quite well jon shame you lost some in the lillies, i whould of been a bit stumped on how to go about fishing that peg, but then again im no match angler, i find were i fish the margin's that straight hemp is best for big carp, using paste, black fujka 4 mill pellet's, or hole dendrobaena, over the hemp ?? chears jon, it couldn't of been easy filming under match conditions, but keep them coming please
Thanks, it was 30 degrees and the fish were very moody. They normally all come down the edge by 3pm on this lake, but not so keen today in that sun.

Straight hooked on a 14 for deads. Tried banding but never found much difference

Having fished that peg twice at larford, I can confirm that we call it the suicide swim. Its a nightmare! Margin pole only and if you give them an inch your done! Your arms ache so much at the end of the session.

Great, if frustrating match john. You didn't give up and were just a little unlucky being so close in the weights. You must have lost at least 20lb. Quality cat by the way. I think he needs a name check though, for all us cat lovers out in fishy land.

You are brave how much elastic you strip on pulla kit are you not worried about pressure on your topkits
I use power kits and there’s loads of stretch in the elastic, so it probably looks more scary on camera. Never broken a power kit… other than with my clumsy feet!

Is there really a difference between 7 and 8 mm meat fair enough 4 to 6 to 8mm but 7 to 8 seems a bit pointless ? Great as always jon 👍
I know it doesn’t sound much but it’s actually quite noticeable the difference in cube size visually. In fact, being totally nerdy, 8 cubed is 512 and 7 cubed is 343, so quite a large volumetric increase.

Do mtx topkits fit on a torque?
Sadly not, different pole mandrel. There is a MTX margin pole but I just like the extra power and ruggedness of the Torque
