Laser engineer here. That is a fibre optic laser, done by (coherently) combining several beams across a fibre bundle (which is a waveguide, like an antenna cable) because it's one of the most convenient ways to reach high laser powers using solid state means (as opposed to gas lasers). Metal vs oxide habe very different dielectric constants which means that the electric field across the interacting surface is uneven and will begin to etch away the rust and paint (if any) until the reflective surface is reached. The variation of E-H field (and charge) at the surface produces a quasiparticle called a plasmon, which can further transfer its momentum to the next layers of the material which is why the thing is so effective. The Avro 100W is a baby laser, for heavy corrosion in marine applications we're expecting 2kW ++ optical (and maybe 10-50kW electrical) At that power level, the amplifiers will not fit into a backpack form factor, and you'd clean your piece in 5 seconds, not a minute. The wavelength is around 1050 nm, beyond human range, but you get to see additional beams specular reflections and recombination, and silicon cameras will see it well, unless they have a filter glass
Not sure what you said but I totally respect the knowledge that went into it and the time you spent writing it. Thank you, I'm glad folks like you are out there.

Most people would have paid some body shop to do the bare minimum. Congrats on getting some of the process accomplished even though it's baby steps at least it's been the best possible process.
Vapor blasting....I have been doing VB for quite some time and yes, it will make your parts look like new. However.....DO NO PUT ANYTHING IN THE VB THAT HAS A BEARING, SEAL, ETC. Although you rinse the part afterward, the ultra fine glass beads will dry and cause a lot of friction on moving parts. Rule of thumb; If the part you are about to VB moves, disassemble it until the joined parts are separated. Tips: Lower pressure, (40-60 PSI) will result in a shinier surface and higher pressure will be a tad duller. Also, be sure to have some anti-flash rust agent in your VB water/beads for any steel parts. Also, you should use “Boeshield” anti-corrosive spray after you VB ferrous metal, (steel, etc.) VB is also great on brass and rubber components. Please feel free to contact me if you need any help deciding which VB to get, (UNLIKE YOUR FRIENDS SETUP YOU WANT A “CLOSED LOOP SYSTEM.) Cheers!

When this is all done and dusted, Adam needs to go on and tell the story of how he wired one of the most insane builds on the planet.
When is the next update on this car?
A masterclass in how convoluted cars have become.
Thanks Tav, for sharing this extreme journey!
Adam is an absolute hero!!
I have a four letter word for this car…

Crazy that Jamal Murray has this much time between games to work on his P1, kudos
