I aim to be a silent lifestyle vlogger and has been eyeing the ZV-1F for a while. Your review decided it for me. The spec on ZV-1F is all I need for a vlogging camera. Its the wide angle, color sharpness, and smooth light transition that did it for me. The camera captures the sunset very pretty! Its also more stable than I thought. This is a powerful camera indeed.
I’m glad I stumbled upon this video. I accidentally won an auction on a ZV-1F and I misread the title. So now I’m waiting for the delivery so I can test it out. Videos like this have helped ease my concerns about the camera and its capabilities and uses. Thank you!
Thank you! Great side by side! I got the zv1f for on the go vlogging and really liked it! But then all the haters had me second guessing, should I swap it for a zv1? But seeing it side by side, no way! I love the wide angle and how tiny and light it is! Perfect for what I do :)
I got the ZV1F because of this! I see people complain about the pulsing focus and I can relate during the first day! 🤣 Realized that the focus is better when Product Showcase mode is On, now everything is working fine! ♥️ Happy that I got this over an Iphone, everything is perfect! I do cooking videos.
Thank you! Man, I've watched them all. I'm not high end videographer, almost every other review of this camera was compared by "cinematic" videographers, not vloggers which that camera is made for. I make automotive content and looking to step up from GoPros for "non-action" shots...and wanted a little depth of field, cleaner picture, and just less issues (goPros are horrible IMO). I had the hardest time finding a simple review for what 90% of people who would actually use this this camera for. Thank you. This is all I needed, and EXACTLY what I was looking for. Im heading to Best Buy now, then to test this guy out on my channel.
Thank you!! I've been having such a hard time with all of this! I'm a full time nursing student who is horrible at all things tech, but have a million useful things I want to share to help people in my place. I've been recording on my iphone and doing occasional voiceovers on my mac, and for the life of me, I can't even get myself to watch my own videos half the time because its a hard watch. I just want something simple and user friendly to put out videos and this is the only resource I've found that I can understand. I swear I was just on the phone complaining about constantly being out of iphone storage, but my icloud ran out and can't back up, and now I can't do yet ANOTHER software update due to lack of storage. I really appreciate this, seriously.
You were really right about this camera and your arguments/logic with the proof of the video I am watching have really won me over. Your style and personality are fantastic for this. Subbed and I really hope you keep making videos. You are great at this.
This was really helpful! I can so relate with running out of space and trying to delete something from my phone to capture that moment 🤣 that's a big reason I bought the ZV 1F... the price was a huge factor for me too. I'm excited to use it!
this is the video that ive been looking for to determine which one i wanna get. thank you for the side by side and for sharing all of your knowledge/experiences!!!!!
Looking into getting a budget camera, ZV1 after lots of comparing seems the best choice for me, the final decisive difference being the near lack of rolling shutter on the zv1, even at 4k 30 fps. More expensive cameras even have rolling shutter where the zv1 doesn't, it's bonkers and great value.
I bought ZV-1 for very same reason. I wanted minimal rolling shutter, large sensor and good autofocus. Those 1/2.3" sensor cameras have fast sensor but next suitable model for me after Sony ZV-1 was Sony a7s III or Sony FX3. That is a lot bigger, harder to stabilize and costs more.
I did a lot of research before buying.. I would definitely wanted to buy M4/3 Black Magic pocket cinema as I kind of like M4/3 size and lenses but I didn't like that rolling shutter, and also wanted slow motion. So for my needs, there was huge price and size difference between $550 ZV-1 or some full frame FX3.
This definitely helped solidify my comfort in buying the ZV-1F. I didn't mind buying something not top of the line since it's my first camera upgrade anyway, but still. Hope to see more content from you! This was fantastic and very to the point.
Yeah, its quite a big difference price wise and I am sure the ZV-1F is more than adequate for Vloggers and You Tubers like me and here in Thailand it is around 500 US $. And its super handy. I have used my old phone so far but the flipping out screen on the Sony is soo much better than guessing what the shot is going to be like with the back camera. But I have been on the fence like everyone else about the ZV-1F vs the ZV-1, but you have convinced me that the ZV-1F is more than enough for me as a new You Tuber. Great review thx 😉
This is what people should watch. A fair comparison between two devices that at the same price point. Many youtuber try to compare one to another product that not even a contest for it. Like how people compare ZV 1F with ZV E10. It just makes the ZV 1F feels like a "wrong pick" for you.
I know you made this video over a year ago but I literally told a friend about this camera yesterday he wants to get into making some simple videos and then I realize dthat the cameras currently on sale for 400 bucks! What a deal! I have an FX3 and a A74 and this little camera and honestly this little camera is the most fun.
One of the bests VIDEOS on this topic, you made a video instead of just talking and showing b roll clips you SHOWED it, that’s what video is all about! ❤
Hi, thank u alot for your video. Im a film student and I wanted to get myself a vlogging camera because I wanted to start vlogging and learning more how to document moments using a camera. I struggled with my iPhone XS a lot because I never have storage and im pretty done with all the vintage camcorders I got myself. I need to learn on a real camera. But im sooooo lost because everyone is hating on the zv1f and even on the zv1! now they all want the zv1 mark2 and its so expensive. I don't know what to do. even 500$ is a lot of money.
I had my eye on the ZV-1 for a while, but I noticed the price difference so I came to YT for a comparison. You have me sold! I ordered right after 3:38 lol. Picking up the ZV-1F after work. Im new to vlogging so it’s good enough for me. Thank you!
It's a little different, getting into "real" cameras from phones, but I like the 1F. Be sure to set it up for how you want the footage to look. Different frame rates cause different effects. So do different shutter speeds (lower is smoother and more "filmy"), which is why I recommend the ND filter for outdoor recording.
I like that saying comparison is the their of joy. People are always trying to chase after the latest and greatest and consequently more expensive. But sometimes you can find what you need in with a descent price and good form factor.
I got my zv-1f last week!! Thank you for satisfying me to get this camera. You're the best!! I really LOVE this review. This is my all time favorite ZV-1f review on youtube. Thanks Messi. I'm enjoying my zv-1f!!
man, you really so easily sold this beautiful camera. your way with words and also your relatability and honestness made me immediately like and subscribe. not to mention your theory on the pr teams of big corporate companies wanting to gain more profit... you made it make sense.
You are right in everything. However, your point applies to vloggers. Do you really believe that ZV-1 buyers are all vloggers? I'm not a vlogger, I never film myself and I make videos using the ZV-1 on a gimbal and to compensate for the lack of an ultra wide angle lens I take two steps back. And I solved all the problems (which I don't have anyway). Color science? Who cares! I like the standard profile colors as they are. I don't care about logs and luts. It's enough for me that it has amazing autofocus, I don't care about the rest. Is the display non-touch? Who cares! I set the camera once and don't touch it again. I just touch the VND filter and adjust the level of the external microphone. Very little postproduction for video and audio and I have great results. Is the battery unreachable? I power the ZV-1 from the gimbal. Almost infinite energy. Stop all this nonsense, it's like saying that a formula 1 car that goes at 200 mph is infinitely better than another that goes at 199 mph.
Fun fact. The small rig cage for the ZV1 also fits on the ZV1f. I tried it last night. There is a tiny tiny space under the camera when mounted but no danger of it coming out as the main grip on the lense housing is so good. Fingers crossed that small rig makes a houseing just for the zv1F though!
Omg ... I have been wanting to buy a Sony Z1 and then couldn't decide on Sony Z1 or the Z1-f because I love that I could save $200. I am starting a food vlog.... Thank you so much!
A lot of the look you want has to do with camera settings and lighting. Make sure you have some good stands and lights. I have and love the following: amzn.to/3lGTTEI amzn.to/40iEBoI amzn.to/40uf6QW
Thanks for this video. I am thinking about getting the zv1f and you have convinced me. I have filmed on my smartphone for year's and I have finally decided I need an actual camera to film on.
Totally agreed that the idea of vlogging on an iPhone is absurd. I’ve even had times where I’ve had enough space, recorded a clip and then “there’s been an error.” And the clip doesn’t save and now it’s just corrupt. So I don’t have any confidence that while I’m recording that I can keep it. Also, my understanding is that the ZV1 does in fact have upgraded color science on par with the Sony A7s iii, though the Zv1F may have even more updated color.
finally someone who understands why i dont want to film on my phone. like of course my phone has a great camera and i could easily use it to make videos but i dont want to have to choose between precious memories and content
Thanks for this camera review! We've been looking around for a little while for a camera to use for our vlogs instead of our phones & after dealing with *thinking* we shot a whole video on our phones and it being stopped in the middle without us knowing due to not having enough storage, we looked into the ZV-1 and ZV-1F. Definitely deciding on the ZV-1F after watching this comparison. Can't beat the price and features included in the ZV-1F!
Superb video. I made my purchase yesterday, but I kept questioning my decision - even after checking out a few reviews - but, this did it for me. Initially, I had the 1 and 1F in my Amazon cart, but decided to go with two 1Fs. Looking at the side-by-side comparisons, features, and advantages, I'm glad I did. Thanks again!
I've been watching product reviews for the ZV -F1 for the past few days and you convinced me to get one. I'm new to this sorta thing and want to do some vlogs when i travel for food and get that started and came across the camera and couldn't find solid comparisons with commentary, honest commentary that didn't get into detail but rather keep it basic and simple. So, thanks for sharing your honest and simple thoughts dude. I'm convinced to try it out myself and use it and more than likely love it. Thanks again man!
Thanks for the support! If you can, hit up either the Best Buy or Amazon links. Even if you buy your camera some place else, a click supports the channel.
Agreed! Picking up one for my wife. She wants a small simple camera she can go out and about with to take a couple photos and video for her IG. She feel in love with the ease of my Fuji x100f and this will be a great little camera for her since it’s a bit better. Plus the easy webcam functions.
I came across your video after watching the exact Gerald Undone video you reference. Your example of sacrificing a cute video of your son in order to take another completely resonated with me. My phone is at capacity and I am constantly faced with these choices. My cameras never are. The two platforms should never be compared in an apples-to-apples fashion. For me, I film a lot of stuff from a stationary perspective when I am either on my soapbox or doing a tutorial video. I needed something more compact and portable than my DSLR gear, wide angle, and NOT GoPro (I want to launch my GoPro into the sun). Your review sold me on this compact, all-in-one daily driver. I am looking forward to giving it a spin over the next couple weeks.
Thank you so much for this honest review. I started out a travel vlogging YT page, and all these other cameras are super unaffordable for me. I’m now super excited to buy!! 😊
Good one. I just did a comparison too the other day and I'm still undecided. My biggest issue is that they got rid of the slomo features, that was great for archery shots. On the other hand I love the usb-c, wider lens and the fact that the lens doesn't move, especially by mistake when it's in my backpack..
Thank you for your kind words. I just wanted to tell it like it is in a way that let's _you_ pick. The 1F isn't for everybody, but it's a dang good camera for purpose. And it's on sale at Amazon right now.
Thank you so much for filming this incredible video!! Excellent quality and extremely helpful and informative!! The Sony ZV1 and the Sony ZV1F are the two cameras I’m deciding between this video was extremely helpful and informative 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This video is the video ive been waiting for! thank you so much, I have never subbed so fast after watching a video. usually I get impatient and skip around but you made the video really interesting!
@@HighlyExcellent Something to record myself fishing from a tripod or mount on my center console boat. The mount can't handle anything heavy (ZV-E10 was to heavy and had weird focus issues).
It's a great vlogger and webcam. I just got the ZV-1 Mark 2 to compare side by side and the 1F still compares so well that you would have absolutely nothing to regret in buying the cheaper option.
Your video just popped up (congrats on the algorhythm!), and caught my eye. I just bought the ZV-1 and have been looking at videos for ZV-E10 as well trying to decide which is better to keep. I have. Lumix GX8 that is weather sealed and some great glass but I just never use it and really wanted something smaller, even though the Lumix is a great size. Appreciate the side by side comparison here and now it's making me think about that...Thx for video!
@@HighlyExcellent i had a ZV1 for a year and later sold it for ZVE10. ZV1 was a catalyst into mirrorless camera world. ZV1 sensor was the same as in Sony AX700. I guess its footage looked more like a semi pro camcorder. I was looking for shallower depth of field in my video, hence ZVE10 with 35mm f1.8 got me there. ZV1 F is a good camera for beginner and even for pros but i may be waiting for ZV2..
watched this video all the way through. your info, insight, and humour are so valuable! thank you for helping me make this decision to upgrade my gear from my iphone with minimal storage (although zv1f is pricier here in canada nearing $700 and the zv1 at $1000) with a wonderful side by side shot!
Hey man great video I’m glad you put this out for us smaller creators that are trying to up our game. Did you use the cameras microphone or use an external one?
After testing my ZV1f I just could not get past how inconsistant the focus was. It was pulsing just sat in good light looking at a solid stationary item. When I did some walking tests I just thought this pointless. Got some really cool slowmo footage of my fire but it was ruined by focus pulsing. I rang up the store I got it from and said this is awful. They said bring it in an luckily for me they have put the ZV1 on offer for about £10 more than the ZV1F so my second camera to back up my ZV1 is now another ZV1 🤣One with the big wide angle lense you can get for them and a cage and light for use on tripod and the other with no addons to use on gimbal at events :D You don't notice how bad the ZV1s angle is if the active stab is turned off and it is mounted on a little gimbal :D
There ya go. If Sony came out with a wider angle ZV-(2?) And the other fixes this F has, phase detect would certainly make it a killer. The autofocus still isn't as bad as Panasonic, though!
Thanks for the great talking/walking head comparison! I am liking the handheld stabilization on the two cameras. I really like the wider angle 20mm lens of the ZV-1F and the colors are really nice with the filter you used which help get great exposure. Still, I’m one who really likes the colors out of the ZV1 as well. The lamp posts 0:46 and 1:13 on the wider angle shot, (ZV-1F) looks really distorted, (barrel distortion), and I’m assuming it is straight in real life. Is it possible to enable the lens compensation feature on the ZV1-F to correct this. Not that it isn’t there with the ZV1, but not as apparent, (the tighter focal length crops in more on your face). On the ZV-1 blown out highlights is the built in ND filter on? You can also turn on Dynamic Range Optimization, (DRO), or even change the metering setting to preserve highlights, which is effective in correcting some of that. You should be able to do the same on the ZV1F, (minus built in ND filter), but I think you are saying you don’t want to have to fiddle with those settings to get a good image with this type of camera.
Damn. I was reeeeeally close to buying the ZV-1 but after watching this I'll add the F to it. Thanks for this side by side comparison. Great stuff. Subscribed. 🙏
What a great video first of all thank you!! I think for outdoor vlogging the ZV1F is better but I have a question: I plan on using the camera for indoor vlogging too and I have pretty bad (aka dark) lighting in my room. Would you still recommend the ZV1F over the ZV1 as both a studio cam AND outdoor cam??
For the color accuracy alone, yes. You can easily and cheaply fix indoor lighting. I have these: amzn.to/3v75UnP They come with a hinging cold-shoe attachment you can use with an included foot or you can screw them straight into a 1/4" tripod.
@@HighlyExcellentomg, thank you so much for the reply! And again thanks for the video, finally a video where someone showed a realistic use of the camera and wasn't just running down a list of specs haha. I'll look into buying good lighting. Have a nice a day!
Thank you for saying this! I am honestly not picky about "amazing cinematics" so I was really hoping this simple camera was going to be high quality and just what I needed. Thank you for this honest review.
I do have a Canon G7X 1 and an Osmo Pocket (since 2 years already), but both of them are not the best for me anymore... the Canon crop the image too much and doesnt have microphone input what really makes me mad... otherwise the Osmo pocket does have mic and good battery, the quality and colors are not just good enough, and the small screen makes it hard to see if the shoot its good under a sunnyday for example, do you think that sony zv-1f can be a good upgrade for me?
I watched probably every camera youtuber out there since 2011; you're the only one that actually got me to subscribe.

Great video with actual usage of both cameras instead on
of in studio type of reviews using a completely $$$$ different camera
finally someone who understands why i dont want to film on my phone. like of course my phone has a great camera and i could easily use it to make videos but i dont want to have to choose between precious memories and content
That's horrible to hear about the uncaptured footage.
Glad you found the comparison helpful.
Same reason I've just purchased one.
Side by side comparisons are so valuable. Thank you for doing that, good job 👍
I think you killed it in this video. Bravo sir.
Agreed! Picking up one for my wife. She wants a small simple camera she can go out and about with to take a couple photos and video for her IG. She feel in love with the ease of my Fuji x100f and this will be a great little camera for her since it’s a bit better. Plus the easy webcam functions.
The webcam is super easy. Literally plug and play.
The review we actually needed. Thank you ;)
The best comparison video. Really well done and thank you for sharing 🙏🏼
Great review! The ZV1F looks very good in your comparisons. The color science looks amazing for the price.
You nailed this comparison vid bro! Great vid! Sony should pay you for this vid! I just ordered my ZV-1F as a podcast camera because of you. Thanks 🏆
Best review I’ve seen. Straight to the point and great points. I’m on my way to buy it now
Honest ... simple. Straight to the point. ZV1f is the way to go ...
Finally someone is being honest and made me optimistic again that i can buy zv1f and still be pleased 😅😅😅😅
Nice review. I get tired of "watch before you buy " fanboy reviews. I happened onto this camera and it's definitely worth it for it's intended use.
It is such an authentic and powerful video that convinced me enough to buy ZV1F over ZV1 for my videos.
Thank you for the kind words.
Thank you so much for this honest review. I started out a travel vlogging YT page, and all these other cameras are super unaffordable for me. I’m now super excited to buy!! 😊
Thank you for the support. I like the camera a lot.
Thank you for this. Seriously!
Good one. I just did a comparison too the other day and I'm still undecided. My biggest issue is that they got rid of the slomo features, that was great for archery shots. On the other hand I love the usb-c, wider lens and the fact that the lens doesn't move, especially by mistake when it's in my backpack..
Such is camera-owning. You can't get exactly what you want.
Here's to hoping the "ZV-2" will be the best of both!
@@HighlyExcellent Too true. fingers crossed for the ZV-2!
Man. This gotta be the most original review ever. You're hilarious! Spot on.
Thank you for the kind words.
Currently super busy with job, school and our two lil kiddos, but when I upload again it will be just as good.
I rarely leave comments, but I enjoyed this candid review even 7 months later. Subbing.
Thanks!
I'll get back to it when I can! Active toddler, brand new boy, work and IT certs!
Good comparison. Thanks.
Going to try out that ND filter with my new ZV-1F. I don't vlog so it will remain to be seen if it works for me. Not many cameras do work for me.
What do you need from a camera?
I love my ND - makes outside shutter speed smoother and betters background de-focus.
@@HighlyExcellent Something to record myself fishing from a tripod or mount on my center console boat. The mount can't handle anything heavy (ZV-E10 was to heavy and had weird focus issues).
I hope this one works well for you. I'd love to hear an update.
this video and the review is amazing. the only video i enjoyed watching about this camera. i watched the whole thing 💕
Thank you for your kind words.
Thanks for your video! You solidified my decision to get the camera.
It's a great vlogger and webcam. I just got the ZV-1 Mark 2 to compare side by side and the 1F still compares so well that you would have absolutely nothing to regret in buying the cheaper option.
Hero of the people. I'm sold. Thank you for this!
I love the colour science of the Sony zv-1f I think imma get it
Finally a good review on the cameras. Everybody else was talking Str8 BS. Thank You 🙏
Your video just popped up (congrats on the algorhythm!), and caught my eye.
No problem! Thanks for the comment.
All cameras are a trade-off at this point. I think that's how the companies want it.
this is amazing, the comparison you made is an eye opener...
I honestly was ready to jump on the hate bandwagon - but I had to change what I was going to say. There's no reason to hate this camera.
A solid pick. Can't wait for the A7000 series and the ZV-E20 to come out.
My man you gained a sub, thank you
You are definitely a hero!! 😆 I really did appreciate this. Now I don’t have to save up $700….the zv 1f seems far superior.
Since im going mainly for a live stream/ stationary camera, tthe ZV-1F looks good enough for me! Thanks for saving me money lol
Thank you for this!
watched this video all the way through. your info, insight, and humour are so valuable! thank you for helping me make this decision to upgrade my gear from my iphone with minimal storage (although zv1f is pricier here in canada nearing $700 and the zv1 at $1000) with a wonderful side by side shot!
That Canadian pricing though. 😕
The best comparison ever! Thank you for made this super useful video 👍🏻
Thank you. This is exactly the video I’ve been looking for 🥺😊
Thank you for making this!!
Hey man great video I’m glad you put this out for us smaller creators that are trying to up our game. Did you use the cameras microphone or use an external one?
Great video and thank you for being honest
Thank you.
I'll have another out within the week. Subscribe if you would like to see more.
Excelente video. How does it compare with old Canon m5, m6, or m50, with 22mm f2 lens, in low light?
this the only camera video i watched fully
Thanks for this video will be able to save money... lol. Is the cover you are referring to the 40.5mm on Amazon?
Damn.
I was reeeeeally close to buying the ZV-1 but after watching this I'll add the F to it.
Thanks for this side by side comparison.
Great stuff. Subscribed. 🙏
I bought a used ZV1 , which 100% of the time is cheaper than the new or even a used ZV1-f here in my country
Great review, thank you!
👊🏻
What a great video first of all thank you!! I think for outdoor vlogging the ZV1F is better but I have a question: I plan on using the camera for indoor vlogging too and I have pretty bad (aka dark) lighting in my room. Would you still recommend the ZV1F over the ZV1 as both a studio cam AND outdoor cam??
For the color accuracy alone, yes. You can easily and cheaply fix indoor lighting. I have these: amzn.to/3v75UnP
They come with a hinging cold-shoe attachment you can use with an included foot or you can screw them straight into a 1/4" tripod.
@@HighlyExcellentomg, thank you so much for the reply! And again thanks for the video, finally a video where someone showed a realistic use of the camera and wasn't just running down a list of specs haha. I'll look into buying good lighting. Have a nice a day!
i really enjoyed every single argument. Thank you. Keep it up
Thank you for watching.
Thank you for saying this! I am honestly not picky about "amazing cinematics" so I was really hoping this simple camera was going to be high quality and just what I needed. Thank you for this honest review.
Thank you for the support. Thing is, you actually can get a variety of shot styles with it if you so desire!
I do! You won't get the zoom of a G7X 1 - so you first have to make sure that isn't a thing you topically use.
Thank you 👍
subbed, loved this review pal. I own the zv1 as a decent travel camera but Ill probably get the ZV1f at some point as well.
this is a very good review. Did you add a microphone on your cameras for the sound ? Or is it the buil in microphone of sony's camera ? :)
