  • The NSW Water police have revealed their new class 4 boats ahead of Australia Day celebrations.
The multi-million dollar purchase for a fleet of seven new watercraft were rolled out across the state, with these three new craft costing around three hundred thousand dollars each.
NSW Police Deputy Commissioner Catherine Burn, supported by Marine Area Command and Acting Assistant Commissioner, Mark Hutchings briefed the media about their new fleet.
The 9.5m Rigid Hull Inflatable (RHIB) boats were designed in New Zealand with significant input from the water police. Their custom fit-out and design will greatly assist police in their daily operations.
With a top speed of 45knts, the watercraft can respond across the harbour in minutes. Twin 4 stroke 250hp motors power the craft with a range of up to 200 nautical miles.
The latest in navigation and GPS technology has been implemented with touch screen controls and bright operation consoles.
High visibility has also been one of the upgrades with police repeating their safety messages regarding water safety.
The fleet of new boats will be deployed at Balmain, Botany Bay, Broken Bay with the ability to respond to Tweed Heads in the north and Eden on the south coast.
