    Happy New Year! What a beneficial video. As you know, the language translation is often more about the meaning of the word versus the word-for-word exchange. Your step-by-step guide and add-on recommendation and amazingly helpful. Thank you again!

    Great video!! Your wani kani video series definitely makes me want to pick up learning kanji again! I've used rtk in the past and it left a bad taste of my mouth! Maybe I might have to switch it up!

      I’m so glad to hear that! Kanji are certainly daunting to tackle, but once you have a system working for you and do a little bit each day, you’ll be making progress in no time!

    Another super helpful vid thank you! I know you said you'd be making a video on this soon but would you happen to know any scripts to speed up progress? I intend to stick to your 50/100 rule but the current limit that I'm capped at has me learning 1 radical that I messed up 2 days ago every 4 hours lol. There is steady progress and then there is absolutely glacial progress.

      Aw thank you! Some useful scripts that may help you are ones that let you quiz yourself outside of the formal reviews, the override button and another that lets you pick the order of the lessons you take. Sorry I don’t know the titles off the top of my head but they should sound similar to those descriptions 😄

    Hey Alivia, I´ve been wondering how good can you read Japanese? Like, are you able to read a manga already?

    • @AliviasNook
      @AliviasNook  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I’d say I’m around the preteen level? I read Yotsuba and Shirokuma Cafe without trouble and was getting through at least a volume a week. But when I’m reading things like Haikyuu and HunterXHunter it takes longer because there are so many new words and a lot more dense. I’ve also read the first chapter of the Kiki’s Delivery Service novel but finding it hard to focus, so sticking to mangas for now!

      I’ll be making a video going over my favourites in more detail, but off the top of my head I really like this one that randomizes the kanji fonts, another that shows what percentage of the JLPT kanji I’ve reached and another that visualizes my upcoming reviews on a bar chart type graph!

    The 1st time I watched this video was a couple years ago and I had no problem following the steps and installing tampermonkey, wanikani open framework and double-click on a Windows 10 PC. But now (2 yrs later in 2024) I'm trying to install it on a Windows 11 laptop and I'm getting errors. Also, what has happened to this video -- it didn't use to be so blurry. Anyway, can anyone help me with this? The error I'm getting is
    Script: C:\Users\djoli\Downloads\Wanikani Open Framework.user.js
    Line: 22
    Char: 2
    Error: Syntax error
    Code: 800A03EA
    Source: Microsoft JScript compilation error

    Hello, I have a question. Does the "self-study quiz" interfere with the reviews? I'm afraid to do it because I don't want the additional practice to count towards the actual WaniKani system.

    • @AliviasNook
      @AliviasNook  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The self study quiz is completely independent, so it won’t affect the WaniKani algorithm. However it will mean that you are seeing words more frequently than WaniKani intended you to see them, so it might affect the algorithm indirectly that way if that makes sense? I personally would only recommend using it for specific words you are getting wrong frequently. It’s a bit counter productive if you self-study everything unless you are cramming for a test

    • @xxelainexx8527
      @xxelainexx8527 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@AliviasNook you’re making perfect sense. I wanted to use it as a tool to study burned words since once it’s burned, I won’t see them anymore (waaaay waaaaay down the line) or using it for continuous leeches as I would need additional resources "outside of WaniKani" to get my leeched words to stick in my brain. I was just curious and wanted to test it out for future use, but I didn’t want it to affect everything else. I 100% plan on following WaniKani’s algorithm as I also believe it would be counter productive and a waste of my money to not trust in the spaced repetition that the website was designed for.

    • @AliviasNook
      @AliviasNook  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Perfect the study tool would work great for that!

    I’ve also been using wanikani since October last year (lv. 25 now) and i’m currently working my way through Tango N4. I’ve been trying to read manga for the last few weeks and its been really tough as I have been looking up almost every word. So far i’ve just been looking words up and kept reading but do you think I should be adding these words to anki? Any advice is appreciated.

    • @AliviasNook
      @AliviasNook  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow you’re making really great progress with WaniKani, great job!
      For the manga reading, first make sure what you’re reading is a beginner level manga that uses lots of basic vocabulary. It’s best to practice with these because you’ll hopefully know most of the words, and the new words will be easier to remember. Manga that are fantasy or sci-fi will tend to have a lot of unique words, especially if they aren’t targeted at beginner readers. Don’t be afraid to practice with things that seem “too easy”, practice is practice!
      After you have that down, I think it can be helpful to add words to Anki, but don’t add every single word because that may tire you out. Focus on words that seem important to the story or that look familiar to you since you’ll be more likely to see them again and have them stick. Hope that helps 😁
