I wrote her a fan letter when I was a teenager. She wrote back, handwritten, on lovely stationery. I was so surprised and kept it for years. Mildred Pierce is a favorite. Thanks Jordan for being so positive telling her story.

I feel like people sometimes want to believe the worst when people die because it creates a mystique, but I dont buy into those kind of things when I'm trying to remember someone's contributions to the world.. people have told me that Kirk Douglas and Hugh Hefner were horrible people, but when I met noel blanc I thought he was one of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever met, and he told me Kirk and Hugh were two of his lifelong closest friends...

Abusing children is not a "weakness", it's a crime. I don't understand why when it comes to famous people, there are those who are like, "It should have remained a private matter. His/her children should have tried to understand them and be grateful". No one is stopping you from enjoying Joan Crawford's work, but acting as if her abusive behavior is just some minor flaw instead of seeing it for what it is baffles me.

Joan Crawford and Bette Davis were both fiercely independent and strong women in a predominantly male run industry where if you didn't play the game you were labeled as difficult or a bit*h. None of us knows what goes on behind closed doors and never will. She was an amazing actress who made many great movies.

Joan grew up with a lot of trauma which shaped who she became. She was determined to be the best and worked incredibly hard. I am sure there were issues w her but I try to look at her in a context of her background, her goals and the times in which she lived. I believe she struggled in life emotionally but she had a lot of positive characteristics. I think she really needed psychological help back then which is so much better today than in the 30s or 40s and 50s. They did not understand childhood neglect, abuse and how it impacts the brain and behavior like we do today.

    • @ridingtheroad185
      @ridingtheroad185 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

yes! I don't think one negates the other but should be looked at in totality. All of us in life have many different sides which makes us who we are. Without her childhood or without things that happened to her would she have been so great an actress? If she wasn't the greatest to the older kids doesn't make her being better to the twins a lie. We change as we grow.

And I guess you never had a bad moment or bad day in your life where you did the same thing? Joan Crawford was one of the most beloved stars in Hollywood. I am in my 70s and was from the Hollywood area born and raised for 40 years worked in the industry and I have my own friends and family and people that knew her and loved her, personally and professionally! She lived an extremely disciplined life and wanted her children to grow up with backbone and appreciation for what they had. Cynthia and Cathy were tremendously, respectful and loving to their mother, realizing who she really was, and enjoyed knitting and crocheting, working hard alongside their mother in the home, and we’re joyous companions to Joan when she traveled, giving her love and happiness & truly cared about Joan, not bringing their mother grief and nightmares. Joan, herself physically worked so hard. Scrubbed her own floors on her own hands and knees in her home and brought a similar discipline with her when she was on set! Joan could’ve never achieved the stardom the love and respect she earned in that she always had if she’d been 1/10th the maniac MD depicts! She only had one lady, her loyal housekeeper, Mamacita for many, many years. Between the two of them, they did all the work!! I love & respect Joan probably more than I do any of the other well know celebrities for who she truly was, for all she did, and all she gave and for all the tremendous heart and brilliance she painstakingly brought to her dozens of memorable film performances, many we still treasure to this day, and I really appreciate Jordan doing such a respectful, lovely job sharing the highlights of Joan’s life & career within his post here today. Very nicely done, Jordon!! ❤️🤗

@@spokanetomcat1 Her secretaries have stated & it is documented she did not start drinking until sometime in the 1950’s. To my knowledge, she never was a drug taker, but a very disciplined person she could not have accomplished all that she did had she been a drunken lush!!! She traveled hundreds of thousands of miles for many, many years until near her death, representing Pepsi-Cola, and had boundless energy and discipline throughout. Why run her down? Why does that make you feel better? She was a tremendously good person and you should try to focus on truths. You can see and learn many beautiful things about Joan Crawford along with bonafide documentation’s that debunk all the ugliness people associate with Miss Crawford on-line at The Concluding Chapter of Crawford, which is a gigantic website painstakingly created containing documents regarding who this lady really was! If you give it a chance, you’ll find someone there to respect instead of diss.

She was a real star. But, yes, I believe she did abuse her daughter. I worked in the medical field and some people do horrendous things to their children, and yes, often well-educated, privileged people abuse their children; you would never dream what horrors are occurring behind the doors of beautiful homes. Her penchant for tantrums, sexual promiscuity, obsession with extreme cleaning, extreme control of her body and home, indicate someone damaged and who is attempting to rigidly control her environment. And abusers often choose one child, a scapegoat, who gets the bulk of abuse. It makes sense that the other children did not experience what Christina did. Crawford was still a fascinating, talented woman, but a flawed one.

Thank you for your video of visiting Joan Crawford's grave and your kind remarks about her.👍😊
Joan was an amazing film star and Hollywood legend.❤😊
*I have never viewed Joan was 100% villain in her relationship with her two older children!*
I half-believe Christina, but Christina's version of what happened is probably not the complete truth. " *Recollections may vary* "
Also, that that point, Joan was not around to defend herself. In addition, people who worked for and with Joan never had
anything bad to say about her! (Even years later, after their retirement) She was the consummate professional on the set too.
A trait that was much appreciated by the staff and other actors, who wanted their days of filming to go as smoothly as possible.
The two younger girls were sent away to boarding school at a young age. At that point Joan was older and may have realized that
being a hands-on mother, while working in the then-horrible Hollywood film-making process, was not an ideal situation and it was
loaded with undue stress! Also, Alfred Steele was in her life, shortly after she adopted the two younger children. Steele was a very
stabilizing influence on Joan. He truly loved her, and she him; furthermore he was a family-type man who was not in competition
with Joa or who felt cowed by her star power.

Okay-HUGE red flag 🚩 not mentioned..it is cruel and hurtful to disinherit two of your kids and then leave a significant sum for the other children. The son was especially troubled and died tragically and young..probably because of his own trauma. Trauma is cyclic and NO ONE gets a pass.
