I wrote her a fan letter when I was a teenager. She wrote back, handwritten, on lovely stationery. I was so surprised and kept it for years. Mildred Pierce is a favorite. Thanks Jordan for being so positive telling her story.
Two sides to every story. That's so cool she wrote you back!
Mildred Pierce is a great movie. Love it!
She quietly helped many charities, including a hospital room she kept for years for people that couldn't afford one. Class act.
@@stevers62Many abusers and predators, including famous ones, donate to charities and raise money for charity. They do it to enhance their image.
@Muirmaiden My Mother is exactly 💯 like that.
I like how you always try to portray the famous in the most positive light you can. You do not sensationalize their weaknesses or condemn them. We could all stand to focus more on what is positive about others rather than focus on what we do not like. Thanks
I feel like people sometimes want to believe the worst when people die because it creates a mystique, but I dont buy into those kind of things when I'm trying to remember someone's contributions to the world.. people have told me that Kirk Douglas and Hugh Hefner were horrible people, but when I met noel blanc I thought he was one of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever met, and he told me Kirk and Hugh were two of his lifelong closest friends...
Abusing children is not a "weakness", it's a crime. I don't understand why when it comes to famous people, there are those who are like, "It should have remained a private matter. His/her children should have tried to understand them and be grateful". No one is stopping you from enjoying Joan Crawford's work, but acting as if her abusive behavior is just some minor flaw instead of seeing it for what it is baffles me.
@@Muirmaiden You're right. We have a two-tiered system in this country, we give the wealthy and well-known a pass on bad behavior.
Joan Crawford and Bette Davis were both fiercely independent and strong women in a predominantly male run industry where if you didn't play the game you were labeled as difficult or a bit*h. None of us knows what goes on behind closed doors and never will. She was an amazing actress who made many great movies.
Good video! There were some who did back up claims that Crawford was a too strict parent . Among them Helen Hayes, director Vincent Sherman, June Allyson.
You left out Kirk Douglas, Sherman said she was too strict with her kids and they would grow up to hate her. He was right.
Awesome story! Love Joan Crawford movies. That classic movie magic she gave out is still a powerful thing that pulls people in even today. Good video! 👍
I I hope Joan rests in peace. I'm sure we didn't understand what she really was all about because of that book and movie. Thanks for telling her story. Be safe and take care.
Why should she rest in peace, she caused a lot of pain to her children and others on this Earth.
Joan grew up with a lot of trauma which shaped who she became. She was determined to be the best and worked incredibly hard. I am sure there were issues w her but I try to look at her in a context of her background, her goals and the times in which she lived. I believe she struggled in life emotionally but she had a lot of positive characteristics. I think she really needed psychological help back then which is so much better today than in the 30s or 40s and 50s. They did not understand childhood neglect, abuse and how it impacts the brain and behavior like we do today.
yes! I don't think one negates the other but should be looked at in totality. All of us in life have many different sides which makes us who we are. Without her childhood or without things that happened to her would she have been so great an actress? If she wasn't the greatest to the older kids doesn't make her being better to the twins a lie. We change as we grow.
Ah yes a liable excuse for abusing her kids!
@@ridingtheroad185‘wasn’t the greatest’ -aka physically and emotionally abusive? I really tire of people who make excuses for narcissism. Whilst I’m sure her childhood was traumatic, it is not an excuse.

A lot of people have come forward saying Christina was a sociopathic liar. Even people who worked with Christina on movie sets said she was a nasty, awful creature. She even caused Elvis to lose his temper with her antics... People basically didn't want to be around nor work with her. Pants on fire...
She DID NOT abuse her children. @@SWCSlotsSWCSLOTS
She is one of my favorites of the Old Hollywood time period. I really enjoyed this video! thank you.
My grandfather told my dad a story about her. My grandfather was a backdrop painter for the studios back then, while he was working on the set, she went on a huge tirade cussing and screaming toward her trailer. Her assistant followed her in and for about 30 minutes she came out ready to do the scene with a smile. It was like a whole different person went in and another walked out.
Wow almost like she was a regular person lol with ups n downs.
Adored JC!
@@teenaapperson5880 She did drink a lot. Maybe drugs too like many in Hollywood at the time.
And I guess you never had a bad moment or bad day in your life where you did the same thing? Joan Crawford was one of the most beloved stars in Hollywood. I am in my 70s and was from the Hollywood area born and raised for 40 years worked in the industry and I have my own friends and family and people that knew her and loved her, personally and professionally! She lived an extremely disciplined life and wanted her children to grow up with backbone and appreciation for what they had. Cynthia and Cathy were tremendously, respectful and loving to their mother, realizing who she really was, and enjoyed knitting and crocheting, working hard alongside their mother in the home, and we’re joyous companions to Joan when she traveled, giving her love and happiness & truly cared about Joan, not bringing their mother grief and nightmares. Joan, herself physically worked so hard. Scrubbed her own floors on her own hands and knees in her home and brought a similar discipline with her when she was on set! Joan could’ve never achieved the stardom the love and respect she earned in that she always had if she’d been 1/10th the maniac MD depicts! She only had one lady, her loyal housekeeper, Mamacita for many, many years. Between the two of them, they did all the work!! I love & respect Joan probably more than I do any of the other well know celebrities for who she truly was, for all she did, and all she gave and for all the tremendous heart and brilliance she painstakingly brought to her dozens of memorable film performances, many we still treasure to this day, and I really appreciate Jordan doing such a respectful, lovely job sharing the highlights of Joan’s life & career within his post here today. Very nicely done, Jordon!! ❤️🤗
@@spokanetomcat1 Her secretaries have stated & it is documented she did not start drinking until sometime in the 1950’s. To my knowledge, she never was a drug taker, but a very disciplined person she could not have accomplished all that she did had she been a drunken lush!!! She traveled hundreds of thousands of miles for many, many years until near her death, representing Pepsi-Cola, and had boundless energy and discipline throughout. Why run her down? Why does that make you feel better? She was a tremendously good person and you should try to focus on truths. You can see and learn many beautiful things about Joan Crawford along with bonafide documentation’s that debunk all the ugliness people associate with Miss Crawford on-line at The Concluding Chapter of Crawford, which is a gigantic website painstakingly created containing documents regarding who this lady really was! If you give it a chance, you’ll find someone there to respect instead of diss.
Wow, I watched Mildred Pierce for the first time a few weeks ago. Movie was great! I always watch Whatever Happened To Baby Jane when its on Classic movie Channel. Ms. Crawford was one heck of a actress! Jordan, I watch your vlogs, this is one of your best! Blessings to you and yours.👍👍💘
Mildred pierce is a really interesting movie!
I love Mildred Pierce, but frankly, I didn't know who Joan Crawford was until I read Mommie Dearest.
Thank you for telling her story
Enjoyed this. I heard she always signed autographs, in other words, she wouldn’t allow a secretary to do it.
Joan Crawford adored her fans.
@@GeminiladyJackson-xq6hc She did? Or was she addicted to their adulation?
@@bradfordhamilton3021 Joan Crawford appreciated her fans. That is as good because some celebrities don't want to be bothered by their fans.

Jordan what a wonderful vlog. Thank you for doing this with such class as always!
I think she was such a beauty. I always remind myself there is always two sides to a story and We will never know.
Thanks so much Jordan for a wonderful look back. Perfect watching for a Sunday morning! ❤
Hey Jordan, thanks for that video. Yet another great production! Keep up the good work buddy! ❤
Joan Crawford was a fantastic actress and a beauty, we will never know the truth about Mommie Dearest, very sad but I adored her. Ty Jordan for this very respectful tribute😎
I know the truth about Mommie Dearest, it was like she wrote my childhood story.
@@bradfordhamilton3021 sorry about that, i fortunately had fantastic parents who loved and wanted us to
I’m glad you handled this with respect. Christine and Christopher were known to have behavior problems. Writing such a book after Joan’s death was questionable and underhanded.
Love the video!!Keep making more!!!
This was a great vlog. It's sad that people will remember Joan Crawford by the book so it is very nice to hear a positive side to her life. Thank you.
I believe Christina to be a sociopath. So many people who knew her have come forward saying what she really is...
It's not sad, it's truth. Truth sets us free.

Thanks Jordan for this well done video. I learned so much about Joan that I did not know before and I like how you give a balanced perspective on the movie stars life,
Great video, Thank you ❤
I think leaving the two kids out of her will is a bit vindictive which would lead me to believe that there may be some truth that she may have mistreated the kids. But like you said we weren't there so we probably will never know for certain.

You do t know what happened so its not up to you to make judgements. I've done the same do what do you think of me ?????

One of Steven Spielberg's first directing jobs was an episode of Rod Sterling's Night Gallery featuring Joan Crawford. Even in those many B movies she did, she gave her all. Speaking of Rod Sterling, I was yesterday years old when I found out he taught at Antioch College and lived in Yellowsprings for a time. This was after The Twilight Zone.
i feel that if you have multiple kids, each kid is going to look at their parents differently. each kid is going to be raised by a different parent even if they were raised by the same people, especially if there is huge age gap between the oldest and the youngest.
Exactly what I think.
Some parents will target some of their children for abuse and not others.
I’m torn on whether I believe she abused her 2 older kids. My mother could be so mean and some of the things she said to me were terrible. After saying something terrible to me she could completely change and speak to someone else like things were perfect and she hadn’t just given me what-for. I’m sure the truth of what happened lies somewhere in the middle of what Christina claims and what those closest to them witnessed. Great video! ❤

Thanks again for sharing Jordan Thanks for the history
Jordan, what an interesting life Joan had. But, No One really knows What Goes On Behind Closed Doors 🤷
Amen to that one! I did an intervention ( one of the hardest things I ever did)
Exactly
Joan Crawford was great. Grand Hotel she stole the picture along with Lionel Barrymore. Also loved her performance in the Women and also Mildred Pierce.
I love Grand Hotel also! Amazing cast!
She was a real star. But, yes, I believe she did abuse her daughter. I worked in the medical field and some people do horrendous things to their children, and yes, often well-educated, privileged people abuse their children; you would never dream what horrors are occurring behind the doors of beautiful homes. Her penchant for tantrums, sexual promiscuity, obsession with extreme cleaning, extreme control of her body and home, indicate someone damaged and who is attempting to rigidly control her environment. And abusers often choose one child, a scapegoat, who gets the bulk of abuse. It makes sense that the other children did not experience what Christina did. Crawford was still a fascinating, talented woman, but a flawed one.
Thank you much for this video..

Thank you Jordan. A loving tribute to a true Hollywood Great.
I think her birth date is earlier, 1904, has been mentioned, she did appear in silent movies, she actually said in an interview she started to tread the boards at 14 through necessity,
A great Joan Crawford movie that isn't talked about a lot was Harriet Craig with the great Wendell Corey.
I just saw this. Never had heard of it before
Great vlog as always! When I watched Mommy Dearest, it gave me chills! Joan was very talented but complex too.
I believe everything Christina has said about her. The twins were treated much better, very spoiled. Just because they weren't abused doesn't mean Christina and Christopher wasnt.
Me too.
"It doesn't matter how much money you raise for charity. If you are abusing children, robbing them of their childhood, making them incredibly unhappy, you can only be a bad person, and your legacy will always be poisoned."
Blah, blah, blah.... You just can't give it a rest, can you?

She was very pretty when she was young. She came from nothing and became a legend.
Lovely video! The Ed Sullivan Show was before my time, but he had a really big shoooooo! Joan Crawford was a legendary self-made star. Mildred Pierce was the jam. Thank you Jordan!
IVE SEEN A FEW TV INTERVIEWS WITH DIFFERENT BIG STARS THAT SAID THEY WERE AWARE OF HER ABUSE BUT AT THAT TIME YOU KEPT YOUR MOUTH SHUT.

One true Grand Dame of Hollywood. Love her Movies. RIP JOAN🙏🏼
Thanks for presenting her here Jordan ❤. HI JAH 😊 😘🫶
Thank you for your video of visiting Joan Crawford's grave and your kind remarks about her.👍😊
Joan was an amazing film star and Hollywood legend.❤😊
*I have never viewed Joan was 100% villain in her relationship with her two older children!*
I half-believe Christina, but Christina's version of what happened is probably not the complete truth. " *Recollections may vary* "
Also, that that point, Joan was not around to defend herself. In addition, people who worked for and with Joan never had
anything bad to say about her! (Even years later, after their retirement) She was the consummate professional on the set too.
A trait that was much appreciated by the staff and other actors, who wanted their days of filming to go as smoothly as possible.
The two younger girls were sent away to boarding school at a young age. At that point Joan was older and may have realized that
being a hands-on mother, while working in the then-horrible Hollywood film-making process, was not an ideal situation and it was
loaded with undue stress! Also, Alfred Steele was in her life, shortly after she adopted the two younger children. Steele was a very
stabilizing influence on Joan. He truly loved her, and she him; furthermore he was a family-type man who was not in competition
with Joa or who felt cowed by her star power.
I totally believe Christina was jealous of Joan. Soap-opera actress Christina wanted the fame Joan had. It is tragic Christina wrote a fictional hate book that became so prominent. Love Joan so much! She had such a traumatic childhood. Died way too young...
I don't. I think Christina was messed up due to Joan's abuse and neglect. No one writes a book that MILLIONS of people who were abused as children related 100% to Christina's story.
Great research Jordan! Did you watch the rugby world cup! Blessings and happy thoughts! 😇🙏🍵🎊🎉🙌
Whatever happened to Baby Jane. What a classic movie. Joan was beautiful to me in her younger days. Thanks Jordan for this story.
Excellent job Mr. Lion!!! Have you ever seen the movie AMERICAN ME?
Jackie Gleason went to her house in Hollywood and said the booze she drank would even kill W C Fields
I am glad you brought the truth out. I hate smear campaigns.
A must watch movie of hers is Sudden Fear with Jack Palance , a black and white gem !
Mildred Pierce was an excellent movie.
Mildred Pierce was Joan Crawford's best film.
Some actors said they hated working with her, and Joan forgot her lines a lot and drinking heavily on the set
Give me some names.. never once heard that anywhere.. can you give me the name of the book you read that in?
I read accounts where actresses such as Barbara Stanwyck and Agnes Moorehead had problems with their adopted offspring .
I read somewhere that Agnes Moorehead disowned her adopted son.
They did, but Stanwyck was all career too and didn't know how to parent. She never said anything bad about the boy, just that there was bad blood between them.
Grow up watching These two thanks Jordan
I am glad you told this story. I post Old Hollywood on Instagram and it never fails, when I post Joan, I’m ready for the Mommy Dearest comments, and the negativity. I always would visit her grave, Judy Garland used to be buried there as well. On the very bottom in single crypt. It’s funny I was posting Joan today, but saved my reel for another day.
Okay-HUGE red flag 🚩 not mentioned..it is cruel and hurtful to disinherit two of your kids and then leave a significant sum for the other children. The son was especially troubled and died tragically and young..probably because of his own trauma. Trauma is cyclic and NO ONE gets a pass.
Christopher died from cancer at the age 63
@@DazewithJordantheLionpeople who suffer trauma are more likely to suffer health issues.
Wow, Joan Crawford wasn't that old when she died. She looked older than her years, hard life.
Her birth year was altered. Like many female stars, she made herself younger.
I believe her real age was early 70s.
Smoking, drinking all day and obsessive sun bathing. I am 46, retired US Paratrooper and look 15 years younger than my dad when he was my age. No smoking, no drinking and sun screen go quite a long way.
Christopher backed her up who was in the home as well I don’t think Christina was jealous of Joan I think she was rebellious. I read the twins we’re a lot more docile. And let’s not forget Joan 63 filled in for Christina’s part of a 28 year old on a soap! so who was emulating who?
"Living with a dominating woman like Joan couldn’t have been easy. She wanted children but couldn’t have any, so she adopted several. Joan was not quite rational in her raising of children. You might say she was strict or stern. But cruel is probably the right word." -- Helen Hayes
@@bscottb8 great quote from someone that was actually there. it bothered me how dismissal Jordan was of Christina a child that lived in Joan’s home. You don’t have to dig very deep to see there were problems with Joan. I think the twins and one of the Christopher’s there were two came from Georgia Tann

She and Bette Davis are my two favorite actresses. ✨🤩✨
During the early fifties my family went to the movies a lot. I can still remember often there was a head shot of her in the lobbies and as a 3-4 year old her face terrified me. I thought she was the worst looking woman I'd ever seen and for some reason to me she resembled a lion. I do think I saw what Christine brought out in her book and to this day I don't watch any of her movies.
And there she is, appearing with Disney characters on behalf of Pepsi/UNICEF at their NYWF pavillion! It's a Small World was the featured attraction. :D

@@DazewithJordantheLion Christopher gave an interview that is online that backs up Christina's story and his.
