Your assessment of this song is right on point. When I met my wife of 30 years back in ‘93 this became our song. Neither of us plays games, but we recognized that many couples did. I’ve been a fan of APP since I was a kid in the 70’s, and while my favorite album is Pyramid…many older folks that like this song can’t name the band. When I COULD, a bond was formed and we fell in love. Weird for a song like this, but I still consider it our song and am still good friends with my ex from all those years ago.
Alan Parson Project is usually Progressive Rock band, but on this song and album they decided to take a different direction and including some Blue-eyed Soul and some Disco melodies mixed with deep lyrics on Life. Excellent song. Excellent Band, Excellent Album.
The Moog Synthesizer was a popular instrument in that era used by several groups. The note pattern played on Repeat and all the sounds are electronic. Many Classic Rock groups and songs had them, An early use of the Moog synthesizer in rock music came with the 1967 song by the Doors "Strange Days". The Monkees - Their song "Daily Nightly" was the first known pop recording to feature a synthesizer, namely the Moog Modular synth purchased by Micky Dolenz, only the third to be sold commercially at the time. Acoustic Grand Piano, Fender Rhodes Electric Piano, Wurlitzer Electric Piano, VOX Electric pianos/organs, Hammond B3 Organ were common in the 60's through the 80's... before Digital ruined music.
APP was an underrated phenomenal band. Very creative and definitely a band to go through their amazing catalog!

Great tune with great lyrics and message from a very talented group. Nice Choice
Tales if mystery and imagination,,,was my favorite album. All based on Edgar Allan Poe stuff. Truly mind bending 70's

The whole album (The Turn of a Friendly Card) is fantastic.
Shortened significantly from the original!
