The heat inside bakes the cheap plastic, it becomes brittle and then one day it just crumbles like a cookie. 😉 Also, manufacturers used to put metal stress-relieving plates around the hinges' mounting points in the past - no more.
Sorin - What hot melt glue sticks do you use? I have used cheap hot melt sticks from "The Range" with a cheap glue and either the glue sticks, the glue gun or both are shite!
I am sure that this is built in planned obsolesce by design. These manufacturers don't want the customer to keep their laptops working for 5+ years, so they purposely create this crappy bad design so that it purposely fails after around 3 years. I've had many a cheap laptop over the years such as Lenovo, HP, Acer and they all fail with a bad hinge. What I do now is as soon as I have bought any cheap laptop for myself or for my friends or relatives etc is I open it up and slightly loosen the nut on the hinge. This makes the screen open a bit easier but more importantly it reduces the stress on the hinge. The best solution though is to simply pay more for a premium laptop with a all metal chassis.
how would you approach replacing a keyboard that is held on to the palm rest by heat stakes? would hot glue workk there too - or too close to the keyboard membrane?
In my country it gets up to 45°C. when I watched this video I remembered the video when you showed that poster "hot glue hero" they were making funny of you. They know nothing poor people.
Much appreciated, going into details like that , thank you again ;) Hot glue sticks, therer are different qualities, and different "hardnesses" do you have a choice of quallity :type there that suits you better ? I had success using hot glue stoicks for hinge indeed (thanks the precedent videos for this ) ; I noticed it may be important to unscrew a little the hinge so it moves more freely. While repairing the first hinge, I give some freeness at the other too so it is not pushing so hard on the case (all hinge tend to get a bit stuck in time are not they ? ) Regards
HOt glue qualities They are showing different qualities, some being transparent but not very supple nor tacky, a table shows the possible choices. They also state good quamlity have no bubbles and smell good, poor quality is more yellowish, and smell. I have no knowledge in this, but I noticed professional electricians use hot glue to install cables indoors and outdoors, they always have good brand glue sticks. ANy pointers would be helpful there (sorry, you go deep into details, I go deeper ;) ! Best regards and a nice day ;) P.S. I use animal "hide glue" for pianos repairs, and there are many types and different qualities, that can be mixed to obtain longer gelliyng time, more or less retracting glue, suppleness, etc (indeed no way to glue metal or plastic with thoses, but my understanding about properties and qualities comes from there ) NOw 3M seem to propose only 2 types, may be that should be enough : multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/1245163O/3m-hot-melt-adhesive-3764-3748-technical-data-sheet.pdf There the clear one seem to be the stronger type by far Best qualities (in China) seem to state that they are silicon based

Why don't clean a Fan? it was very dirty?
Yes! , always clean the fan/dust when you already have the laptop open?
Yay!! Another video
how would you approach replacing a keyboard that is held on to the palm rest by heat stakes? would hot glue workk there too - or too close to the keyboard membrane?
no
In my country it gets up to 45°C. when I watched this video I remembered the video when you showed that poster "hot glue hero" they were making funny of you. They know nothing poor people.
Thank you, Master!!!!!!!
0:17 you should see the weather in gulf countries the temperature is 40~45° and the humidity approximately 90% and up
Dr Khaled, in this case you may use the epoxy for permanent repair but you should be precise (where and how)

Hi Sorin , Great Video as usual. Thanks So Much . ; - }
I tried once again to join Discord, but the invitation "cannot be accepted" (?) any idea ? sorry and thnks !
18:18 hp or dy laptops are better? :D
While repairing the first hinge, I give some freeness at the other too so it is not pushing so hard on the case (all hinge tend to get a bit stuck in time are not they ? )
Regards
youre speach is impressive :)
To be fair: maybe you should always add glue to both sides on jobs like this. No more call back.
SORIN...26° with 43% humidity is better or 44° with 43% humidity....🌞🌞🌞🌞
I think 26 degree is like winter here in Bombay,India.
Hi sorry i got the name wrong it is northridge fix you will find his online store for original amtec flux
There is a genuine Amtech flux distributor in UK, no point of ordering all the way from the US.
The trick with hot glue, is make glue so hot it becomes liquid and transparent , the let it cool peacefully
26 is simply no-ting. Last week it was 120°f at my house. That is 49°C. That is a lot my holder of the faith. Killed my porch plants out of the sun.
Best regards and a nice day ;)
P.S. I use animal "hide glue" for pianos repairs, and there are many types and different qualities, that can be mixed to obtain longer gelliyng time, more or less retracting glue, suppleness, etc (indeed no way to glue metal or plastic with thoses, but my understanding about properties and qualities comes from there )
NOw 3M seem to propose only 2 types, may be that should be enough : multimedia.3m.com/mws/media/1245163O/3m-hot-melt-adhesive-3764-3748-technical-data-sheet.pdf
There the clear one seem to be the stronger type by far
Best qualities (in China) seem to state that they are silicon based
Sorin, what percentage of laptop repairs is successful? 50, 60, 70, or 80% of the jobs? Please give us a figure. I'm sure a lot of newbies would like to know.
I would guess 90%, not everything can be fixed.
@@zx8401ztv 90% is pretty high. I wasn't expecting it to be so high. Sorin never replies.

Hello Rose Electronics , i have this exact same laptop but i can't find the way to reset the bios...
Do you have any idea how to do it ?
There is no bios battery in it and leaving it without battery for a long time doesn't reset the bios.
Thank you for your help, i would saved my little's brother laptop's life and it's school year.
its flexible and durable
Nice one
Come to my country Sorin
It isn't hot its just scorching😅
Its in the 50s c these days
I loose the hinge's nut a bit. They come too tight and break everything.
I usually use super glue with white tissue ..thats long lasting...guess
Do you use a paper tissue, or maybe glasfiber tissue?
I guess, glasfiber with epoxy resin should work.
@@oilybrakes I always use only facial tissue..I wrap it with my fingers and put it on , finally dropping glue and its getting hard in a minute.
ı use super glue with baking soda
the hot glue u use is a good quality there are many quality of hot glue if u use a cheap one expect it to break so fast
I've used the dollar store cheapest no name glue, no issues for years and years of repairs.
@@em0_tion I used 0.1 € hot glue it broke after it became cold
@@ghostbiker7391 I get mine for 0.25€ a pop. I noticed that the older batches of sticks were more translucent and soft/flexible. Looked just like what Sorin is using. Newer ones a more murky white and harder, not as strong but still get the job done. Hope these observations help you pick something new to try out. I've seen extra strong results with some Akfix sticks, but they're *hella* expensive compared to the usual suspects. 😁 At their price I'd better go for a JB Weld epoxy.
@@em0_tion I knew how to pick up a good quality,it need to look white or translucent the more it's yellow or close to yellow the bad it is
Try salt with festivities
Lost in translation, what is that?
I use epoxy only works far better then hot glue !
👍👍👍nice to see you👍👍👍
You mean 78 degrees, right?
Hot glue is not very good when device is running hot. I use it but only sometimes, kafuter proved to be stronger solution.
Sorin, you are not giving the original hinge enough justice, it held up for years, probably, hot glue will probably last a similar amount of time.
you could have cleaned the fan... he is always doing the minimum
i use super glue and cotton or baking soda to retain the original design. but too messy.
Wound bandage tape soaked with super glue works well. I avoid the soda - it dries fast, but it fails to bond well/strong with plastics. Fan blowing air over it speeds up the process, but it's still not fast enough.
@@em0_tion i use super glue with baking soda
@@seckinseckin3919 Me too, but mine becomes too brittle for hinges when I mix it with baking soda, the brand is Jeep. Without the soda it's strong. What brand are you using and for how long does it hold the hinges with no cracks?
@@em0_tion
MITREAPEL it is glue with activator spray
@@seckinseckin3919 Thank you, I'll certainly try that if I can find it in my city. 👍
sir ..many times i try this method for hinge but no success .......iam using fevicol xpoxy ,,,mix well use well wait 5 hour ,,,,,,,
as he says ... you have to use it with a hot air gun .. the regular glue gun doesnt heat it enough .. watch how he does it ..
if everything fails .. try some other source of hot glue sticks ... someone above in the comments mentioned .. some low quality glue goes not work well
find branded hotglue

Planed obsolescence by manufacturer
@@Alex-mj7km Could be bad engineers but this problem has been on the increase since the early 2000's, its almost always on HP & Lenovo. They had 20+ years to figure out their laptops need better hinges
@@Alex-mj7km Yeah seen some Acer ones too, maybe HP is just more popular here
Yes, notably some of the the HP (consumer) line have criminally badly designed hinges construction.
The forums are filled with complaints about it.
True, but yet nobody complains about the low initial cost of the laptop. 😁
@@Alex-mj7km You don't pay for strength, you pay for specs. What else would happen? No such thing as free lunch, so they have to make a compromise somewhere. 🤷♂️ This is why old timey Celeron laptops had tough chassis, but were twice as expensive as todays cheapest. No magic, just simple math.
Hot glue not work for me Becoz here 45 degree
This laptop is coming back for overheating
If you would have used some strong adhesives like '' professionists'' are telling you... You would have a very bad time now...
Just learned a romanian word: bab-la.... !
i don't think hot glue is good to fix a damage hinge... I already use it once but the result when the laptop is getting hot which is usually during using it, the hot glue eventually taken off. Much better to use either epoxy, resin or we called it Epoxy Resin because they can handle much better than the hot glue.
for me I will not recommend hot glue but I can say it as an optional if you haven't Epoxy Resin
dont use cheap hotglue, in my country i use dextone or sellery brand. thats work
