  • UPDATE 03/21/17: Tate and I have secured jobs back in the States and need to sell Sundowner immediately. Our visas are also up in early May meaning we will have to leave the country for a month. I know we have put a lot of money and time into Sundowner but everyday we spend here in Panama is a day we are losing money back in the States. Someone is going to get a GREAT boat at a super cheap price.
We have reduced the already GREAT price of $49,500 to $39,500. First one down gets her! Please email us at SundownerSailsAgain @ gmail dot com for more info.
Our labor of love for the past 7 years is for SALE! It is Bittersweet.
Check out a detailed sales ad on our Blog:

Sundowner is a 1974 factory finished Westsail 32. She has circumnavigated 3 times and has been almost continuously cruised or lived aboard for the past 40 years, receiving constant attention and upgrades throughout her life. She is a true long range, rugged, water/energy autonomous, blue water cruiser. Her latest major refit/rebuild in 2015 focused on low maintenance, strong gear, and comfort at anchor.
Since 2015 she has been sailed from New Orleans Louisiana down to Panama where she resides currently.
The Westsail boats are legendary for their blue water capabilities. Being factory finished assures those qualities. In addition, Sundowner has an engine with less than 300 hours, a 18gph water maker, 500 watts of solar, a freezer, and a very long list of improvements.
She is offered for sale and we believe she is the most updated and modernized Westsail on the market today. She is truly turn key and ready to sail away. Everything is stocked, provisions, a full galley, fuel, water, new batteries, etc. We currently live aboard and can answer any questions about her readiness to meet your needs.
We spent over 70 thousand dollars and 5000 man hours upgrading and lovingly refitting this boat. We have had an incredible time on this comfortable and seaworthy Westsail. While we have had an incredible time sailing her over the past 7 years but it’s now time to let her go to her next owner’s who will hopefully take her farther to distant shores. Health concerns (Hip, lower back and other joint issues issues) force us to sell.
If someone buys it soon, there is still time to take her across the Pacific this year as she is located next to the Panama Canal in the beautiful San Blas islands. Travel here is easy, and she is ready to go. Make an offer, we are motivated to sell. We can also deliver to anywhere on the Gulf Coast of the USA and will consider delivery elsewhere in the Caribbean.
Please find below a very detailed list of Sundowner’s equipment and improvements.

Speaking for only myself (who else could I speak for?) I empathize with your health issues causing you to sell your blue water home. Times and circumstances change, hopefully your "conditions" or issues that plague you will sort themselves out over time and you as a family can again journey onward to another adventure in life. I am fortunate that I too sailed the deep on our own 64' Ketch rig for many years while young and healthy. We stowed-away many an adventure and passages to last me the rest of my days even though I am over 70 now. I tell folks always try and go exploring or adventuring when as young and fit as possible, you can work your way around the world in your own vessel if you are willing to work hard and do jobs that other cruisers are not want to do. We walked away from a land based business (sold it while it was running profitably ), took on the 64" ketch and her repair work needed although the hull, masts, spars and engine were in fair shape, all else need replaced including all sails, standing rigging, shaft, all electronics and every piece of halyard, line, lifelines and stanchions including the bell rope (charlie Nobel) Great memories for the wife and I as I am sure you have as well. Keep on keepin' on, you arr sea dogs of the special breed. Be well, keep your sense of purpose and enjoy every minuet you draw breath. Thank you again for sharing your journey.
    David, Capt, SV Eleutheros (ret)

Sorry to hear of your health issues. That is my biggest fear in life, that something will happen before I get to see more of the world. Hope you guys can find a way to make more content, you do very good work. (consider including the web site in the sale, it is pretty cool). I found you when you were in the RV, maybe that world will work out for you? Take care and hope to meet you both one day.

dang wish I could. I would love to live aboard(or so I think?) just been Midwesterner canoer but would love to try for bigger water and bigger fish. travelling around the globe is something I think everyone would like to do at least once in their life. problem for me is I am low wage guy, with all the expense & things ya need to know/do to liveaboard makes me think it will never happen or be long journey I can't take first step on now.

Sad to hear this I really enjoyed the sailing vids. I have an idea. Hold a raffle for your subs at a $100.00 a ticket. At 8000 plus subs just get 500 and the $50000. goal is met and maybe a lot more. I'll through down for a ticket.
