The satisfaction gained from making something significantly better, can't be underestimated. Great work Matt!
That window frame will be the only thing that survives the ravages of the British weather. Nicely done.
Thank you
it looks liike its the only thing that acctually holds this shed together ;)
The window is the strongest part, you’ll end up like in the cartoons where the rest of the structure falls down and one part remains in its position 😂
Haha I hope not
That's a bold color Matt 😄
Maybe you should add some flashing above the window, as it is now it will let rain in, I'm afraid!
You managed to have a haircut between the door and workbench 😅👍
Damn it you beat me to it :D
Nice! 30+ years ago I bought some lavender/white paint for my floor because it was the cheapest and I didn’t dislike the color really.
This video has strengthened my resolve for my custom built shed later in the year rather than an off the shelf solution 👍🏻
I like the way you built the frames, similar idea to when you weld angle iron to make a frame
Awesome work, Matt! It's definitely much better now! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
How awesome, you did a great work 👍👍
Matt I just love watching you. I love woodwork and cooking and guess what? my shed is Cupronol Lavender and grey. Love your sessional haircut handsome. Keep the videos coming..... Love from Northern Ireland x
Hi Matt, good job on the window frame probably the strongest part of the shed, nice colour.
Like you said might be cheap now you painted it it will give it more protection. As always a great video Take care
👍👍👍. Thanks Matt
Looking good with the new hair!
A nice sturdy improvement there Matt. Seeing what you've done has given me ideas how to build some decent windows for my shed.
Seems a lot of sheds have bad windows
Those windows were shocking I'm not surprised you replaced them Matt. I'm really interested to know what the cost of that shed was vs if you built the same type of shed yourself (just stronger).
I did chuckle when I thought of Triggers broom in Only Fools. Maybe this shed is your broom lol
Did the same thing wish I went for a more expensive one double the price. Now stuck with the same kind of shed. I will put in a interior frame with 2x4 and by time the counter is in it will be stronger. If I keep going I may as well just replace it.
8:58 the concentration face was amazing 😂, my friend bought a shed like this a few weeks back and 75% of the supporting uprights all had massive cracks through them, disgusting QC on most of these sheds..window looks great 👍
Looks great!
Thank you
Love the window going to use this idea 💡 ❤❤
Thank you
You putting the window into place and the way the wall was wobbling I thought the whole thing was about to collapse.
My wife bought me a similar one 6 years ago only it has glass not perspex its done its job but its not big enough to do anything in so it's coming down soon and I am building my own followed your builds so hopefully🤣 no mistakes
Good luck with building yours
Reminds me of movie set stuff. Watch it back for yourself but when you applied “gentle persuasion “ to the window the front of that structure shook. I was thinking how ironic it would be if you destroyed the wall by reinforcing the window. 🤦♂️🤦♂️
Edit…
Feeling bad about the shed I hadn’t noticed the hair cut. At least you’ll look spiffy if you have to answer to the authorities should the shed blow away and damage a neighbor’s residence..
Great little build, one question:how would building the frame be achieved without the use of a table saw.
Nice replacement job there Matt and certainly needed. Those original windows were shockingly bad. Cheers.
I could not believe them
Nicely done. Partial silk purse out of a sow's ear!
Thank you very much
A great upgrade 🇦🇺🎸⚡️🤘🏿🤘🏼💋❤️
where did you get your stop for your miter saw
Looks nice,I need to do something similar with my workshop. Only one thing, won’t water leak in from the top?(and possibly the sides)?
next white stripes on the black sides ? dilemma, horizontal or vertical ? or bold, slanted
Good video. Yes, the 'off the peg' shed option is terrible. And, eyewaterially expensive for what you get. Of course, no shed is thief proof. After all, they are only made of timber, and we all know the story of the big, bad wolf.
A couple of years ago, I put together a kit shed for a friend. What a piece of junk! Did I mention it cost 6k? No insulation, and entirely constructed with 'banana' pine. I only watched this as I'm about to build a new workshop myself. I am confident that I'll be able to build a 5m by 2.5m shed for around 3k.
Why do they make them with short doors ? Do people shrink a foot when in the garden ?
Nooice!
It's inside out, rebate should be outside. Any water that gets past the glazing will end up inside.
The quality of those sheds is heart breaking. Mate of mine paid 1500 for a huge one and he was gutted.
Yes would have been upset too
nice windows man, I'm not native english speaking and I did not understand , what was the reason the self built shed had to go?
He has a lodger now (someone living with him who pays rent) who needed somewhere to store his own stuff.
Hi ,
What make is your table saw ?,can you recommend it ?
Thanks
Bosch - see his review videos on it.
@@c.a.g.1977 cheers
Can you send a link to where you brought your shed from?
I wanna buy one the same
Haha
funny. as i posted on your podcast earlier today, this week I came to the conclusion building a workshop was beyond me and my time would be better spent doing several other hundred jobs around our home. i have to say (hopefully) the shed I chose will be a better quality one than yours but it's a gamble. that's a million dollar window in a ten cent shed. i think it'll catch on, your ahead of the game, as ever. I'm going black with my shed though, as you've done with your other 2. oh, and happy haircut.
Shocking sheds are completely avoidable and you can get them at good prices too. When looking at online sites avoid eBay and Amazon, they or their sellers will not be able to answer questions before you buy. Try to find where the shed is shipped from or made. And favour firms local to you as they will typically have stock you can go and see. Sheds are made all over the place and they all copy the same basic design stiyles. 9mm cladding is common and fine. Instead understand the size of the framing used. 20mm square is too small a section look for 27mm or above. Replace supplied screws I favour 6mm washer head hex drive exterior screws. Remember to factor in the base you will need to buy or make. The floor they provide is not going to be sufficient on its own. Ditch their felt or ask for it not to be provided. Source your own as even average felt from wickes is going to be 10 times better than what gets supplied. And don’t do what Matt did in the video and paint or apply stain immediately after putting it up. Do it before you assemble and paint both sides. K.
@@StrawbyteWorkshop thank you for your advice. i got one from a local firm, it has 22mm cladding, framing is 63 x 38mm and they use stainless steel nails... I'm hopeful it will be above decent quality and I'm prepared to add to it to improve it if it needs it. it's from a company who make them rather than just selling them. fingers crossed
@@markdyballuk sounds perfect.
@@StrawbyteWorkshop 👍thanks
Argos sheds?
The shed is not worthy of your window! Still, you can put it in your next hand built shed in due course!
Oh dear a lesson for all don't buy cheap sheds online. I've seen stronger orange box's. I suppose when you have some time and a little spare cash you could line the interior with some OSB to give it some rigidity. As long as it could withstand the weight of the OSB maybe just use 9mm 🤣. Otherwise a good little video the only thing I would have done different would have been to keep the head and cill as one piece and done a similar lapped joint for the middle. Also its not Black and White I don't think the 🦡🦡 will approve 😁
Well, it doesn't do any harm to remind yourself that you were right every once in a while Matt, quality and price seem to be going in opposite directions, even a poorly constructed shed seems to be upward of £300 these days !
I was just thinking, "Blimey Matt, you are a bit woolly, time for a haircut mate !" then 30 seconds later...... ! 🤔😉
Bet there’s a single nail in every joint. That will save 10p per shed. Anything to save pence. I couldn’t bear to spend money on that….. but needs must….
Hmm I'm a bit confused. You had a quality shed you built yourself, then you got rid of that shed and bought a shed? I think I've missed something.
Cheap shad Lol, wall was moving Lol!!
Yes it’s not great
I'll tell you this for nothing, all those sheds and the house extension makes this a breach of planning unless you got planning before building. You are only allowed to build half of the area of the original house before planning has to be sort.
Wow that’s a bold claim you’re making with any actual facts at hand. Be kind.
@@StrawbyteWorkshop It wasn't being unkind but I should have read the current law and not assumed it was the same as a few years ago, the law now is extensions and outbuildings (sheds) should not exceed 50% of land surrounding the original house, it used to be, shouldn't be more than 50% of the foot print of the original house. When the law changed I don't know but if you type in "shouldn't be more than 50% of the foot print of the original house" you still see web pages giving out the old law.
