Stunning. No wonder the Russians adopted Eastern Orthodox Christianity when the Tsar's envoy returned from Constantinople and reported he had been in Heaven whilst there.

"East Roman" art? Why are you embarrassed to say "Greek Art"? Greeks have built so many many many cultural masterpieces throughout
Turkey, and we're happy our friends the Turks are sharing them with the
    world

Because that's what the inhabitants of Constantinople called themselves for over 1000 years , they called themselves Romans, as they were the eastern half of the Roman Empire. They did not refer to themselves as Greeks.. that's what the Western European Latins called them. But the Byzantines never called their empire or themselves Greeks....

And now also this treasure Erdogan is going to transfer into a mosque! There are so many of them in Istanbul and so few left byzantine buildings! It is really a shame!

@@easy5989 you mean old mosques that still work as mosques?
Because if that's the case, yeah most of Muslim churches are located in modern buildings in greece.
I can assure you though, that we have preserved many ottoman era mosques and unlike you we didn't turn them into orthodox churches

When I went there. The whole structure is under renovation and the operator lady attitude pretty hostile towards tourists. And it's heck a lot hard to find the way into the entrance. Remember one guy hit my hand when I pointed wrong direction for the Muzesi. 60TL wasted, couldnve gone into bosphorus tour twice better. And the audio guide for this museum is so so. Not even cheap for such quality. Good that they longer let these operators ruin humanity's achievement for the curious.

To be fair, the Byzantines called themselves Romans for quite a long time, even while speaking Greek. Constantinople wasn't simply a Greek triumph, even if significantly contributed to by ancient and then-current Greek culture.
