Elon is playing down the true scope of what Starlink will become. He doesn't need more legacy telecoms and their lobbyists fighting against him right now, so he is staying humble. Believe me, no Musk company will be alright investing $10B just to "compliment" existing companies. In a decade Starlink will be the market leader, Elon just needs to buy some time to get more birds into orbit! :)
‘Elon lies. He understates everything.’ - Sandy Munro. He’s just being Elon. Be honest, no highfalutin crazy talk. And no manipulative paid advertising.
He said straight out he expects to serve 3-5% of the world, that's between 54 and 90 million customers. If they achieve a 70% profit margin charging 100$ a month that's an annual profit of 45.3 - 75.6 billion. Which in today's rankings would make them the 3rd or 4th most profitable company in the world, and the one with the highest operating margin. Starlink alone is a 2-4 trillion dollar business not even factoring in the rest of SpaceX.
He’s not a threat here because he will create new markets traditional telecoms couldn’t dream of serving. It’s an “if you build it, they will come” strategy
@@mynameismatt2010 your math is off I believe 3% of the world population is 228 million approximately while 5% would be closer to 380 million. So 22.8 to 38 billion per month net or at a more realistic 40% profit margin, 9.1 to 15.2 billion profit per month or 109.4 to 182.4 billion per anum profit.

@John T Smith There's so much going on these days but instead of writing a book perhaps you might be interested In graphene oxide and graphene oxide nanoparticles and how they enter the system of the organism and how the toxic substance affects the organism depending on the amount of the dose and the method used to introduce the dose into the organism. People have been exposed in various ways and it has been taken into the system in large doses. I wonder what's in the skies raining down these days. Vapor trails.... This stuff has a thing called a frequency asorbtion band and it happens to be in the same bandwidth as 5G. I don't believe in co-incidence either. Control is the 7 letter word everything happening in our world has been about for a long time. They have algorithms that predict mens thoughts. Lets enslave them totally and do this by controlling thoughts and feelings. Now wouldn't the entire planet be a perfect prison if the minds of men were the fences? Look up and see what graphene oxide is and how people get it in them. Hint. Inhalation causes loss of taste and partial or total loss of smell. And once it is given in a large dose (say a jab) the body acquires powerful magnetic properties. Frequency excites oxides rapidly. Alters the immune system. I don't consent.
Gifted, Pure & a visionary for good. Is it even achievable given the twisted, polluted society & system that rules?! May God make him do all he's doing for the betterment for all of us.
If you are a real person AND telling the truth, it is nothing to brag about. Paying more than twice as much for one tenth the product is the epitome of stupid. You really shouldn't spread it around.
Refreshing how he does things for higher philosophical reasons which have nothing to do with how to make money, and the rest of the world is trying to understand how is he trying to make money. He is opening the doors to a paradigm shift of utopian proportions. I am so happy to be alive to witness it.
The ending statement was very deep. I like how Elon helped normalize discussion about AI and the future, I just wish he focused a little more on the probable event of the Singularity.
Well too be fair the instructions also talk about HOW you should point it at the sky, and you need to app to see the keep-out zone in the sky. Also attaching the base pole needs instructions. Pretty simply, but saying there isn't 100% accurate. I know my grandma probably couldn't use it.

I have been a beta for about 3-4 months now. I have a north facing yard which is about 50 feet by 100 feet and it worked ok when it was just mounted on a stand. Now the leaves are out on trees around the circumference of my yard I kept getting disruptions in service. I finally bought a roof mount and put it on my roof and it is much better. Far better than the fixed wireless service I had before and previous satellite provider Xplornet. it is a little pricey though. There is much more latency than he suggested - very difficult ot play fps games. Good upload and download speed.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just lay the needed fibre back haul to remote areas and serve them with ground based radio rather than use 800 rocket launches to scatter 42 thousand satellites into LEO? Assessing this from an energy perspective, while Starlink is a cool idea on paper it doesn't make sense for most applications. The reason rural internet sucks in most developed countries is density, market rules and monopoly behavior, not technology. Dragging fibre to every rural town of a few hundred people far from the main lines would cost less in the long run than maintaining a mega constellation.
There are areas where the cost of installing the fibre is too high for little return and even if you add radio there are still many obstacles that interfere with signal. Satellites launched on reusable rockets are much more cost effective and issues with obstacles that interfere with signals are not as significant.
@@njengakim That's only if you look at serving rural communities and national infrastructure as a matter of profit for some corporation. The cost of dragging fibre to unprofitable areas has to be significantly less in the long term than a space launch every week in terms of money and carbon emissions. Existing community run networks are far ahead of commercial operators in terms of speed and cost, the biggest hurdle is always state law and corporate lobbying.
@@chinogambino9375 The cost of a fibre network that can cover all of the remote regions of earth is far greater financially and from a carbon emissions point of view. The amount track you would need to lay would be insane and that would require an army of excavators that simply does not exist at this moment in time. The fact it is not profitable how is the very reason why it is not being done.
Fibre can be dug up, and 5G towers can be burned down, as they have been in the UK etc. by people living next to or near these towers and have gotten sick from them. But who can shoot these satellites out of the sky? No one other than the Military.
But what if you don't know how to trade any of these? I mean, I see your point. Some people have the money and are willing to invest. But the problem is where to

"Ok Elon, remember the talking point: 'complimentary to fiber and 5G'"
Yeah but good of him to emphasise. He does not want to make the impression that they could serve 8 billion people 100gbit internet
yea if too many people would buy star dish SpaceX would go bankrupt 😹
🤣
is it me or does it look much more healthy here? clear skin and all and looks alert
Elon couldn't not lay the 69,420 joke even on a serious conference 🤣

Of course he is.
Tesla, Boring and Neuralink will run on Starlink.
Very good interview, he was in a good mood this time ^^
Wow... Elon on MWC... The Answer is the Universe. Simply an honor to live the same time all this is happening
*"We dont really know what all the answers are or even what questions to ask but if we are able to scale the scope of consciousness then we are better able to know what questions to ask about the answer that is the universe"*

@@colinsouthern Not a bad idea if you want to prove the case of free will. Maybe for some brilliant young emerging scientist. Elon is busy enough.
i live in a remote part of the Yucatan Peninsula where both electricity and internet are very unreliable. i ordered the service the moment it became available in Mexico. this should make my life and work much easier and less stressful. thx elon and team!!!
🏕🏡🏘
Ill move foward with this. 🏴☠️🇺🇸
I learned something :) they will push Falcon 9 buster to 30 times used!!!! Hope they can do it
*booster ;)
Starship may well make Falcon 9 obsolete before it gets to 30 re-uses.
Yeah, SS will make F9 obsolete almost instantly. Doubtful an F9 will ever get to 20. 2nd stage is pretty costly type of fuel compared to just methane.
One question I would like answered before the end of 2021 is: Once Starlink is out of beta, will Starlink provide unlimited data or have a data cap and if so what's the size of the data cap?
CAPTCHA
I wish he would provide the service even in densely populated areas. In Africa dictators switch off the internet at will. Would be great to have a player they can’t reach
I must say I preferred BFR to Starship. Dude, a big fuckin rocket would be awesome
Maybe not in the history books, which is where it is going.
yeah but Starship really is a BFR :))
I was a major doubter of Elon for a while (I’m a working engineer and I though he was just a blow hard manager who can barely speak). When he announced the BFR he won me over. I invested in TSLA as a result and haven’t looked back. Sucks that it’s called starship now. Too PC.
Starship is the BFR lol 😂
@@joscaca meant the naming not the vehicle itself
When Elon looks up at the ceiling he's scrolling spreadsheets in his mind like Elizabeth Harmon did playing chess in the Queen's Gambit.
Thank you so much to all people god bless
Yes this Starlink will be how 5 G is able to affect how even rural thoughts are formed and emotion is felt.
You can't run from control anywhere now.
@John T Smith
There's so much going on these days but instead of writing a book perhaps you might be interested
In graphene oxide and graphene oxide nanoparticles and how they enter the system of the organism and how the toxic substance affects the organism depending on the amount of the dose and the method used to introduce the dose into the organism.
Just finished setting up my Dish. My normal broadband gave me 6MBS. First few tests on starlink I’m getting 200 😍
Gifted, Pure & a visionary for good. Is it even achievable given the twisted, polluted society & system that rules?!
May God make him do all he's doing for the betterment for all of us.
Didn’t think i coiuld love home more

thank bwo
good call.
If so we will really need you. Can you develope technology to deactivate nuclear device while in bound or unlaunched?
Thank you Elon, for creating things that makes me look forward to during my life time.
I live in a decent-size city but got Starlink anyway. Loving it so far. Ditching cable! Thanks Elon, I believe in your missions for humanity 🙏
If you are a real person AND telling the truth, it is nothing to brag about. Paying more than twice as much for one tenth the product is the epitome of stupid. You really shouldn't spread it around.
@@stupidas9466 I have no idea what you said LOL
Refreshing how he does things for higher philosophical reasons which have nothing to do with how to make money, and the rest of the world is trying to understand how is he trying to make money. He is opening the doors to a paradigm shift of utopian proportions. I am so happy to be alive to witness it.
I need Starlink so I won't suffer a long day of downloading a single gigabyte file. 1Mbps is my internet speed and my latency is 98 ms.
I hear you mate. Plus, I believe satellite internet will be harder to censor and control as it's customary by the dictators in Africa
Try 600 ms ping, amateur
The ending statement was very deep. I like how Elon helped normalize discussion about AI and the future, I just wish he focused a little more on the probable event of the Singularity.
neurolink is his answer to that. watch the old Joe rogan interview and you'll see where he sits with that
@@80AM. He should talk about it mainstream.
Well too be fair the instructions also talk about HOW you should point it at the sky, and you need to app to see the keep-out zone in the sky. Also attaching the base pole needs instructions. Pretty simply, but saying there isn't 100% accurate. I know my grandma probably couldn't use it.
The BIGGEST HAND to ELON MUSK... Brilliant, Genius, Legend ... Great Greetings from Australia, Perth...///
Congratulations 👏 and happy birthday 🥳🎉 finally internet every were specially on long journeys 😅🤣 last thing we want is to redirect signal from neighbours on the go standardizing a form of reliable transmission
What are your intentions for the proposed Oscoda, Michigan location? I have been following local news, but there’s been a stall with incoming information.... will you kindly provide some input?
Stay strong Elon! 🚀🛸💪🏻
Do you think we can avoid ww3 without negotiating with putin or backing down?
I have been a beta for about 3-4 months now. I have a north facing yard which is about 50 feet by 100 feet and it worked ok when it was just mounted on a stand. Now the leaves are out on trees around the circumference of my yard I kept getting disruptions in service. I finally bought a roof mount and put it on my roof and it is much better. Far better than the fixed wireless service I had before and previous satellite provider Xplornet. it is a little pricey though. There is much more latency than he suggested - very difficult ot play fps games. Good upload and download speed.
Hopefully as they scale the network and more customers come on board they can then bring the price down.
I lost my online career after I moved right outside of a big city in florida, we have ZERO internet service providers so I’m hoping to have Starlink sometime soon, preordered back in April
I feel your pain! I’m in central Florida been on the waiting list for 9 months then just got notified it will be another year! Yet I see some who get service in other places in 3 mo. Frustrating to say the least.
Actual net providers company not wanted to invest more money for support homes out of big city because it was not lucratif enought and Elon came in solving this mess since a decade. 👍
Imagine if this would be applied on seagoing vessels voyaging international seas where some internets are slow damn this would be awesome.
I bought in, still waiting for my hardware
El razonamiento es el indico querido Elon...
I love my Starlink thanks Elon
All the best ✌️ for starlink projects ❤️❤️❤️
I cannot wait until it is available in SETX!!!
Been waiting for starlink for year and 4 months. my patience is running thin. Get the darn satellites up man!!!
@@chinogambino9375
The cost of a fibre network that can cover all of the remote regions of earth is far greater financially and from a carbon emissions point of view.
Can someone explain why Jeff who is even bothering with Launching any of the project Kuiper sats?
Im in elseberry mo still waiting for my pre-order can't wait to get it its been 4 months and waiting
Already put money($500) towards it 6 months ago and still haven't gotten any response yet. I was hoping I could get access to the beta
