Thank you SO much for bringing me home to PO!! My family moved to PO (Port Orford) in 1961 and quickly fell i love with this amazing piece of Oregon history. I was born in Myrtle Point, OR in 1950 and am a fourth generation Oregon native. My mother's roots are deep in southern Oregon, having arrived here in about 1843. I went to school in PO from 1961 thru 1966. My junior high years were at Battle Rock Jr High, perched on a hill overlooking the docks. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.
Hi! thanks, I love the coast and Port Orford is particularly charming, fairly new to me, Ive only been visiting for a couple of years but I can see why so many people find it special! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Love your Video. I have a home in Port Orford (In fact you show it in your video for a brief moment). Port Orford is by far one of the most magical places on the Oregon coast. Thank you for putting the time into documenting it. Take care.
GREAT VIDEO, My 1st placed to visit in Oregon was Port Orford, I'm used to seeing beaches in Florida, this, just blew me away, I've never seen Sea Stacks before, unbelievable and mind blowing to me, hence, coming back in October to this beautiful part country.. thank you so much for posting, now I have to go see that grave.....:)
That Grave there was unexpected, I didn't know much about the History of Port Orford until I found that and I started digging... If you get a chance, I made a video about the top 10 beaches in she southern Oregon Coast, Its my most popular video, and It might help you find more destinations in Oregon. Have fun!!!
I agree, This was before I started sharing more information, and I had plans to make a part 2 video this year, but I haven't been able to. Its a small charming town, with only a. few restaurants, Red Fish has good food, a bit pricey but good. Downtown is about a 1 mile stretch and then you're back to trees and nature, lots of beach trails and day trips available from Port Orford.
It's odd that I spent some of my life there in the 1960's, and yet you can still walk out to Battle Rock today, what ever happened to the rising oceans? It is exactly the same as when I lived there.
For what I understand they are trying to stop people from climbing the rock because of erosion, but locals arena happy with that. As far as the water level 🤣. I haven't measured anything so I couldn't tell you 😅
Yeah, all the boardwalks on all beaches all over America are in the same places they were in the 1950s. But we need to cut off all energy supply to America immediately! We need to destroy the Capitalists! . . . ur, I mean, save the planet!
Oregon coast looks like a must for the bucket list. Been to Washington, Idaho and Montana. LOVE the PNW. Some of the rocks on the beach look like remnants from a lava flow.
Love your video of the Oregon coast. My dad grew up in the Newport area...born 1934. He said agates used to cover Agate beach. He's told lots of stories...so interesting! Later, his parents moved to Astoria. I love to visit the coast and eat seafood. Look forward to more videos.
Thank you for sharing! I bet things were a little different when your dad grew up there. My dad grew up in the Washington coast around the same time, at some point I'll make it all the way up the coast!
So cool, my experience in Port Orford was through the lens of an alcoholic mother and an abusive stepfather. I’d rather sleep on the floor in Oakland than spend a day in good ol Orford
Loved watching this, Port Orford is one of my favorite towns on the coast, you really missed out not being able to eat at Crazy Norwegians, you gotta go back!
Very enjoyable video. I liked how the backround changed when you looked towards the edge of the path as you were walking up.I did not know there was a grave there. Thanks for the info. And yes Griff's on the Dock has great food. Esp the cioppino.
Thank you! I've driven past Port Orford 100 times, but never really spent any time there. I really like it, and the history is interesting. Some day I'll go back and explore the area in more depth. Thank you for watching! I appreciate every comment and the time you take to support my channel!
Thanks!! the music I use is from Epidemic sound, Modern Country, traditional country two songs by Brett Gregory, also one from Plain Strolls and 2010's Pop, Future Bass (flatline by Aiyo Jowen)
@@wollertz you missed the tunnel that goes thru battle rock! When you visit stop and visit Cook Gallery! Rick is a great guy. He’s our local historian and also makes beautiful handmade furniture. I grew up there! My Great Great Grandparents settled near Cape Blanco which there home is a museum now. Hughes House, but isn’t open in the Winter. You must visit there!!
I thought I've seen all your videos, I missed this one. Another fun video. Did I see a cat in your rv? Why have we not seen the cat? This place looks amazing. Thanks for sharing. My Oregon research continues
Yes there was a cat, sadly she passed a couple of months ago, she was 18 and grumpy at times, it was difficult to include her in videos, she was so dark the the contrast was too much, and her patience wasn't comparable to Bambi's! Lol, thanks for watching all my videos! I appreciate it, I don't know when you find time! I've been trying to catch up on your's but im only able to do about 2 a day! I'll get there soon enough!
@@wollertz sorry to hear her passing; 18 is great! Bambi seems very patient and like she's having the time of her life. My new schedule gives me a ton of time off; I really need to make more videos...lol; true though. Ya I've watched all of them...I think. Your videos are fun, informative, beautiful...I learn so much about making more enjoyable videos by watching other youtubers. I love that we all can "copy" eachother but put our own touch on it; that's what makes each youtuber so different and unique. We could film the same location but it would be 2 diffrent videos.
@@ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle Absolutely, I can make a video somewhere, watch one of yours and realize how much I missed 🤣, I like that this is a community sorta thing, and can build up on each other ! I think Bambi loves it, how many other dogs have the life she has!
@@wollertz lol. She definitely seems happy! Thanks for watching mine. Any feedback is welcome. I feel I've improved fast. My first video I knew nothing of adding music, jump cuts... its fun learning all the stuff. I just learned how to upscale my 1080 to "4k". As soon as I learned how I was like "that would've been nice to know a year ago!" LOL
@@ChooseAdventureCaliforniaStyle Awesome. I haven't learned that trick yet... I didn't even know I could upscale 1080 to 4k, I film everything in 4k, but sometimes I have to crop and I don't know how that looks, I think a lot of people watch on their phones or with slow connections that pixelate, so I haven't worried about it too much... I have seen a lot of improvement from your earlier videos, which is awesome, that's part of the idea is to get better!
Sadly, this town was founded on invasive actions. But, I'm a local Edit: I never knew there was a grave up there. I shall now make a journey to pay my respects
The natives are derived from ancient chinese refugees that invaded south america hundreds of years ago. Human populations change over time. So you can quit feeling sorry. Its natures way. You will also soon be replaced. So raise that beer, and enjoy life while u have it.

Astoria is on the Columbia River, a few miles from the ocean.
Port Orford is on the Pacific Ocean. That's why Port Orfords claim is valid.
