This is an all time great compilation album. The 4 quartet tracks Jackson recorded with Monk in 1948, Misterioso, Evidence, Epistrophy and I Mean You with John Simmons and Shadow Wilson, are among the greatest Monk tracks ever. (Evidence is on this album but the alternate Misterioso here is inferior to the masterpiece one on the Blue Note Genius of Modern Music album). Milt was one of the very best sidemen Monk ever worked with. He has a wonderful feeling for Monk's music.
Thank you for posting this gem with excellent sound.

Excellent recording from some of my favorite musicians. On some other albums with alternate takes they leave in Milt saying "take 47" etc; they didn't just go in and lay these down quickly. With Milt especially when he's playing "easy" I'm always waiting for some kind of explosion to follow, which is anything but easy listening! He always brought intensity to every song, especially ballads IMHO.

The vibraphone sounds good. Even on average quality acoustics

Some kids were calling Milt Jackson "easy listening." Stupid kids.
