    Yesterday, 12/11/2024, 60 years ago, we lost the most versatile, classy, elegant, transformative singer that ever graced this planet: Sam Cooke. RIH Mr. Cooke you will never be forgotten.

    Saw him in action as a child with my dad. This tall good looking blackman with all the confidence in the world just stood there singing, tore the house down. The females went nuts. This guy is the only singer I know who has 100% control over his voice. He could go from a major to a 7th - 13th back to a Major without missing a beat. Rod Stewart says Sam is the singer other singers pay to sing. He is right. Doesn't hurt he was such a good writer too. Never be another Sam.

    Sam Cooke’s voice was amazing! He could sing the phone book and make you feel it! He’s iconic! There’ll never be another like him! He has inspired so many great artist too! My Dad was a huge fan and he passed that on to me! He’s the GOAT! ❤❤

    It's amazing! Everything you're saying about this song, I said to myself and anyone who would listen to me, about 35 years ago! His control, his timing, his refusal to be a slave to the rhythm. I'm glad to know there is someone out there verbalizing this sentiment!

    My man! This is my first time watching one of your reactions and I’m here to stay! I like to use the term I heard Dr. Dre use when he wanted you to appreciate the production of the Chronic album, he said he wanted you to listen sonically. You, my brother, are listening to this music “sonically” and appreciating the small details (which are actually huge details when you think about it) while understanding that each riff or long vowel is, in itself, a story the artist is telling aside from the actual words. You get it! I hope I can find some Donny Hathaway reactions on your channel! I’d tell ya to keep up the great work but you probably don’t know how to be any other way? 😂

    A tremendous, tremendous loss. And as you mentioned about going into the Pop businesses, where the money happened to be compared to the money from singing Gospel. He went to his dad for advice and his dad said, "If you can make more money singing Pop music over Gospel. That's not your religion, it's your job."

    Okay, James Brown said Sam Cooke was the best that ever did it.

    • @tramp2827
      @tramp2827 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      James said if I could sing like Sam I wouldn't have to dance. Marvin was so taken with Sam that all his earlier song were imitation of Sam. He added the "E" to his surname out of respect for Sam. Otis would have died for Sam. And the list goes on. There's a female version to Sam. She doesn't float between notes like Sam but she has the same timing, tonal quality, control and range. Connie Francis

    Hey Rufus. I just stumbled across your channel and I’m enjoying your assessments of some of Sam’s classic performances.
    I don’t know if you’re familiar with this one, but I’d love to hear your breakdown. The pureness of his tone and enunciation is simply enchanting. It’s one of my favorites from his early Pop recordings. I learned from the daughter of the song’s producer, Bumps Blackwell, that it was his favorite as well.

      Roy, oooh boy that’s my one of my favorites too. I also happened to fall in love with a girl from Vermont around the time I fell in love with Sam Cooke, so that song has special meaning to me. Ski trails, ski trails, ski trails on, a mountain siiide. Sam uses his signature repeating technique to great effect, rendering that would-be Pop song somehow something else. The climax-and I’ll tell you I cried when I first heard it-is the last “so hypnotized by the lovely... evening summer breeze” the way he stretches out “eeeeeEEEvening.” But then, right then, when you think he has taken you home and there’s nowhere left to go, Sam breaks through the roof: “Warbling abo-bo-bo-bo-bov-ov-ove... a meadow laarrrrrk.” This man actually WARBLES LIKE A BIRD while he sings about a warbling bird. Absolutely stunning! Who on earth would think of, let alone dare to do, such a thing? What a bold, imaginative, hilarious move for a singer to make. Only Sam. He conveys the essence of songs, the spirit of their story, so sincerely, like he is testifying the truth of his feelings. And it shines! You and I and Moonlight in Vererrrrmont.
