I'm American, my DNA test said my ancestors came from Achill island. I'd never heard of it before, seems such a remote part of Ireland. Wish I spoke the language.
@@deaganachomarunacathasaigh4344 I speak mostly English. I grew up in an Italian house as a kid so I could understand a little and speak very little Italian (Calabrese) anymore. My mother's family were Welsh (then moved to Cape Breton) so I always wanted to learn Cymraeg. I was always really fascinated with different languages.
@@GordiansKnotHere Oh cool. I speak Irish, English, WestIrish English and French. I know an Irish lad who speaks Welsh fluently. Our languages are similar but incomprehensible. A bit like Italian and French.
Excellent,
Great footage. Any idea when it was filmed?
Not quite sure most likely late 60's - early 70's.

Is that Gaelic that is being spoken?
No its Gaeilge different to Gaelic. Gaelic is the scottish language, Gaeilge is the Irish language
@@deaganachomarunacathasaigh4344 Thank you for you reply. I love the language.
@@GordiansKnotHere Tá fáilte romhat. I speak it. What languages do you speak
