- Apollo Chamber Players presents 'A Mouthful of Universe' by acclaimed Indian Classical composer and musician Chitravina N. Ravikiran. This is the 12th work of Apollo's multicultural, multi-year commissioning project, 20x2020.
World Premiere at Zilkha Hall, The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts, Houston (TX), October 7, 2017.

A Mouthful of Universe (20x2020 No.12a): A melharmonic arrangement based on a short piece, Udajagopa sundara by one of India's greatest composers, Oottukkadu Venkata Kavi (1700-65), set in raga Umabharanam. Ravikiran has laced it with preludes inspired by Venkata Kavi's equally luminous contemporary, Johann Sebastian Bach as well as the colorful Gustav Holst.

This will be another personal favorite! Beautifully performed, as Apollo does so consistently no matter what the composer has challenged you with! My grandmother, who was born in Bengali state, played classical Indian music for me as a child, so it is close to my heart. Bravo Ravikiran and Apollo!
