Naw Megadeth has had plenty of negative attention over the years and it’s mainly been focused on Mustaine. It’s 100% because Ellefson costs more than any other possible player, Kiko and Dirk will have been on a lot less money than Ellefson and now with a cheaper bass player Mustaine can keep more of the tour proceeds in his own pocket.

A lot of people in here using this episode as something with which to beat Mustaine.There was obviously more going on than we have been told so I'm sure it was a hateful but necessary decision for Mustaine to make..I'd like to see what all the Mustaine haters out there would do in a similar situation. As a moral / legal question: imagine a band member had some 'personal' pictures on their laptop, and it was lost/stolen/hacked, then compromising pictures later emerge online - justified automatic sacking or not? It's funny because I remember seeing Dave with the same attitude when he got fired from Metallica. Not for the same reasons of course but the same attitude. Unfortunately, I think you're right. The problem wasn't so much what Ellefson was doing, it was that he got found out, and while, as a married man, I do think it was immoral, I don't think the public should have ever even known about it. It's something that needed to be addressed between him and his wife. If he wanted the band to become aware of it, that should have been his decision. Unfortunately, the band and the public did become aware of it and while I'm sure Megadeth would have been just fine continuing on with him, the holier than thou public made it such that Mustaine had to make the call to fire him in order to protect the business.

It’s ironic that Mustaine fired Ellefson “what no warning, no second chance...”, I’m not a Megadeth fan per say and I definitely dislike like mustaine for a variety of reasons but I have always liked and appreciated Ellefson. He’s always been a very humble and humorous man. I’m sure he will have opportunities somewhere else.

Not sure how Dave Mustaine will react when he finds out about Kiko Loureiro's past (guitar) when he ganged up on his ex-bandmate Edu Falaschi (ex-Angra vocals, album Temple of Shadows 2003 lineup) to prevent him from performing these songs on stage again, even when Angra themselves did not play these songs anymore (rumor is that they can't reproduce the songs good enough on stage...) It has been revealed in recent interviews in portuguese. More than 10 years after the album was released and he wasn't part of the band anymore, Joe Lynn Turner was the guy who called Edu on tour and told him in person that he should play these songs, that they can't do that to him. Props for JLT.
Angra band members actively prevented the guy from making a living, basically, for material he co-wrote. Typical banana republic garbage you would expect from brazilians. It's always about money. Mustaine has been getting the lions share of revenue since the start. I don't fault Mustaine. He made a business decision which was independent of how wrong or not Ellefson's actions really were. He and Ellefson were far from being the best of friends to begin with and have clashed in the past so Ellefson can't count on getting any special breaks.
Mustaine turned a mole hill into a mountain, I love Megadeth, and I could care less what anyone in the band does in his off time, this seemed totally chicken sht to me .

Ellefson wanted a share in megadeth more than likely, Dave found the perfect way to keep overhead costs low while also getting rid of a weird guy at the same time.

Mustaine firing Ellefson over this was the easiest way for Mustaine to fire the highest paid employee. Its unfortunate that yet another once-great band from the Golden Metal Years now only has one original member.

A lot of people in here using this episode as something with which to beat Mustaine.There was obviously more going on than we have been told so I'm sure it was a hateful but necessary decision for Mustaine to make..I'd like to see what all the Mustaine haters out there would do in a similar situation. I don't think Mustaine would have fired him just because of that transgression, though it was probably the straw that broke the camel's back.
There's the classic "we all make mistakes, man." thing I keep hearing. It wasn't a mistake, you just thought you wouldn't get caught.
As a moral / legal question: imagine a band member had some 'personal' pictures on their laptop, and it was lost/stolen/hacked, then compromising pictures later emerge online - justified automatic sacking or not? What's the difference? DE is the victim here, wouldn't be suprised even if he rejoins in the future, after his 'punishment'.
Problem is he sent those pictures to someone who wasn't his wife.

He was only kicked out so Megadeth wouldn't get backlash for it. They're both in the wrong, but you can't blame either of them really. It's just a bad situation where keeping him in or out the band has positives and negatives and I don't think Dave wanted to risk it. I hope they do end up remaining in contact though.
Unfortunately, I think you're right. The problem wasn't so much what Ellefson was doing, it was that he got found out, and while, as a married man, I do think it was immoral, I don't think the public should have ever even known about it. It's something that needed to be addressed between him and his wife. If he wanted the band to become aware of it, that should have been his decision. Unfortunately, the band and the public did become aware of it and while I'm sure Megadeth would have been just fine continuing on with him, the holier than thou public made it such that Mustaine had to make the call to fire him in order to protect the business.
Yeah, bands that bend the knee to cancel culture and fire band members out of fear of backlash are cowards and the antithesis of rock and roll. Rock and roll used to be all about rebelliousness and flipping the bird to those who choose to get offended over shit. Dave should have stood by his bandmate. Either way, Megadeth sucks anyway. No loss for me.

It’s ironic that Mustaine fired Ellefson “what no warning, no second chance...”, I’m not a Megadeth fan per say and I definitely dislike like mustaine for a variety of reasons but I have always liked and appreciated Ellefson. He’s always been a very humble and humorous man. I’m sure he will have opportunities somewhere else.

What sucks for me is that they re recorded all his parts on the new album.....it's still his bass lines but Dave didn't want him to get anything.... He hasn't broke any laws, but he has in a certain way betrayed his wife can't argue that point. But people seem to forget he is also a victim. He was recorded without his consent and then the footage distributed without his consent. Then a false aligation made against him grooming a child. He then lost a multi million dollar job, list his income and can potentially lose it all. He made mistakes, but he is a victim here.

Not sure how Dave Mustaine will react when he finds out about Kiko Loureiro's past (guitar) when he ganged up on his ex-bandmate Edu Falaschi (ex-Angra vocals, album Temple of Shadows 2003 lineup) to prevent him from performing these songs on stage again, even when Angra themselves did not play these songs anymore (rumor is that they can't reproduce the songs good enough on stage...) It has been revealed in recent interviews in portuguese. More than 10 years after the album was released and he wasn't part of the band anymore, Joe Lynn Turner was the guy who called Edu on tour and told him in person that he should play these songs, that they can't do that to him. Props for JLT.
Angra band members actively prevented the guy from making a living, basically, for material he co-wrote. Typical banana republic garbage you would expect from brazilians. I guess people that don't live there don't imagine the things that go down there, some things is better that you don't know, trust me. Now Kiko poses as saint in Megadeth.
But then when you find out that Chris Poland was only paid 200 bucks a week to play with Megadeth during the Peace Sells era, there's little hope of expecting any kind of "justice" from Mustaine. It's always about money. Mustaine has been getting the lions share of revenue since the start. He deserves it being he's the one writing the songs, but at the same time, Ellefson was the only person who managed to stick him out for as long as he did, he could stand to kick more to him. I have no doubt the "strained relationship" was about Ellefson wanting more money, and Mustaine didn't want the negative press and saw it as an easy way to avoid paying Ellefson too, so he took the shot.

This isn't the first time he's been let go from Megadeth. There are two other publicly known dismissals/splits and probably three times that many behind the scenes "temporary separations".
