I think this is going to have one of the most lopsided like/dislike ratios (for those of you like me who needed to see dislikes to the point of adding an extension) in recent history.
Fun fact: Did you know that the disney-esque opening scene as Dan called it was outsourced to the same animation studio that did the infamous "Zelda - Faces of Evil" and "Zelda - The Wand of Gamelon" cutscenes for CDi? Love this game though.

I didn't own a PC until I was in my early 20s. Zelda was my earth-shattering experience. But seeing these games through the lens of someone like Danny makes me incredibly happy.

I've listened to this about 10 times in the last month and a half...and I still haven't finished it fully. Because it's so calming that I fall asleep by the middle of it and never make it to the end. Both of them have such calming voices. As someone who has a very difficult time falling asleep I can't express how much it means to me to finally get some rest. Even if I wish I could see what happens.
fun little aside: the Mocking Bird has like 50 different terrible insult comedy jokes if you keep talking to him. apparently the voice actor was having so much fun with it that they just let him go for as long as he wanted

When you first entered the town, the Archduke mentioned 'taking the Faux Shop with a grain of salt', so the reason the shop was suddenly there is because you'd just licked the salt in your inventory.

God wow, I remember playing this game as a kid! It's amusing how the KQ speedrunning community got excited when they figured out that you could skip past the troll bridge by clipping through the scenery, yet Dan managed to not only do it once, but were even able to recreate the trick repeatedly, all while treating it like a charming little bug of no real note.
As a long time fan that's turning 39 next week, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I absolutely adored this game when it came out and it's def my fav out of the King's Quest games. And I swear it feels like I'm sitting in the room with my friends listening to you two together. So much love to you both. 💜

Wowie. This just unlocked a memory. I remember being like 8 or 9 at my aunt an uncle's house, trying my damnedest to actually play this. Mostly I remember I walking around and clicking things and never getting out of the desert. I'm nostalgic for a game I didn't even remember ever playing until now.
That's pretty much exactly the experience my brother and I had - clicking around and never getting past chapter 1. I don't know about you, but I find it oddly cathartic watching someone else struggle with the same thing that once stumped me.
This is the King's Quest I played as a small kid, I loved the scary town and the beautiful forest with the stag and tree. As an adult, I see all the references to other media, I love it! I'm so glad you played this!

My first computer came with the cd copy of Kings Quest VI which introduced me to this series and I loved it so much I got the Kings Quest Collection later and I liked how colorful VII was. The whole series was fun to play
I followed the same trajectory with this incredible series. King’s Quest VI came with our first computer in 1993. I played it and became obsessed. My dad got me and my sister King’s Quest V, King’s Quest VII, and eventually, the King’s Quest Collection. While King’s Quest IV is my favorite, VI remains a very close second (followed by III).
I honestly dont think you understand how much I enjoyed the first king quest game you did by yourself. It was truly...peaceful. I've always wanted more. The end of the chrono trigger streams and more solo dan Sierra games streams. Is that so much?
The thing that the word "digital", as in base-TEN numeric system, comes from a time when "finger" and "digitus" were directly translated to each other between English and Latin. When I was just a little boy, my dad would take my sister and I up to the computer room and play these games with us. He started us on the oldest ones and worked us up. We practically learned to read and type just so we could play without needing dad there with us. By the time we got to 6 and 7 the new interface and graphics blew our minds. This is my childhood.
This brings back a lot of good memories and a crazy shock to just how different the game is compared to those memories. Such a good game with some delightful hosts.

My first computer came with the cd copy of Kings Quest VI which introduced me to this series and I loved it so much I got the Kings Quest Collection later and I liked how colorful VII was. The whole series was fun to play
I followed the same trajectory with this incredible series. King’s Quest VI came with our first computer in 1993. I played it and became obsessed. My dad got me and my sister King’s Quest V, King’s Quest VII, and eventually, the King’s Quest Collection. While King’s Quest IV is my favorite, VI remains a very close second (followed by III).

The thing that the word "digital", as in base-TEN numeric system, comes from a time when "finger" and "digitus" were directly translated to each other between English and Latin.
In other words, "fingers" always meant "TEN fingers", until authoritarian know-it-alls came along and just MADE UP that we should give up using a naturalized language, because THEY want to revise history and pretend only the 8 are REAL fingers. That's them FAILING to invent a word for their concept of finger-thumb separation, they should have named the TEN fingers 2 thumbs and 8 something else.
And if you want to make sense, you have to use a Latin loan-word "digit". Why? for what purpose, other than make sure latin is an exclusive "learned language" and there's a language barrier between peons who speak English, and ruling class who work behind the curtain with legal and medical Latin? Give me ANY good reason. What's that? They shoved it down your throat at school, so you now repeat it blindly?

memories of this game have haunted me for my entire life. im nearly 30, and played this game with my dad helping me (read: playing it for me) when i was JUST old enough for memories to stay solid in my tiny child brain. since then, i had only flickers of memory of this game like blurred hand-puppet shadows dancing on the wall of my mind. today, this video blasted me right to my past. i feel like the ghost of this damn game has finally stopped haunting me. thank you game grumps for whatever exorcism this was

OH GOD. THIS GAME. This was the first game I ever played, and it absolutely TRAUMATISED me. The deaths/death messages are so brutal lmao. I loved it. I still love it. It's awesome to see y'all play it! :D
The previous games were much more brutal in terms of possible deaths, and no autosave function like in this game.

I love this game. I played this with my mom when I was a baby gamer. Kings Quest games were my first introduction to pc games.
When I was just a little boy, my dad would take my sister and I up to the computer room and play these games with us. He started us on the oldest ones and worked us up. We practically learned to read and type just so we could play without needing dad there with us. By the time we got to 6 and 7 the new interface and graphics blew our minds. This is my childhood.
