I really think "respectful stans" which are mostly chill and just really expressive or excited, should really just call themselves fans, calling themselves stans and owning the term normalizes people overstepping boundaries, believing the relationship is something that it's not, we are just viewers, we aren't someone who needs to defend them, or put them in a pedestal, an calling themselves stans bunch them up with the people who really do overstep boundaries
This sums up the problems with this type of situation very well, as a former fan of carson and a fan of dream's content, I wholeheartedly agree; idolizing content creators is a big problem. Reminds me of the smash drama last year with a ton of top players and content creators being discovered to have been grooming or having slept with underaged players, where there was a ton of drama over continuing to let them play and supporting their careers, when really, it should have been no debate to remove them from the community.
Here’s my take on content creators. They're kind of like fictional characters in a show or movie. We can like them, enjoy them, and root for them, but that’s as far as it goes. If they're boring or not likable, we stop watching, simple as that. Fans need to understand that the people they watch really aren’t as great as they may seem.

I appreciate this take. It's pretty similar to my view on it as well, in that we shouldn't view content creators as paragons or anything. I kind of take this to an extreme and think we shouldn't see ANY person as a hero, and should instead see different positive traits in people and try to act in a similar manner.
I'm from the Netherlands, where the age of consent is 16, but there's an agegap limit until you're 18 and nudes under the age of 18 are still considered cp. Because of this I'd only think the nudes would a bad idea, but not a big deal, if it was just two random people. But as you said the usage of his power is quite frankly awful.

honestly i stopped calling myself a “stan” because i didnt want to associate with that word anymore, the words meaning has become associated with more toxic traits than i first started, i like calling myself fan more now because it’s much more mellow and honestly it did help me become less obsessive about certain things and care about my own life

Even people who admit he likely cheated say they like his content and find him entertaining regardless. This is a very small niche of people and I don't think is even relevant. (Read the rest before you judge, please) 17-19 is a common age gap in high school relationships, and I have no doubts that there have been photos exchanged in those too, so calling him a pedo like many people have is a little too harsh. The power dynamic argument can just as easily be disproven as it can be made, as it isnt something with tangible, viewable evidence. Its a psychological thing, and such things can easily be lost in text. The only way it can be supported is by people saying it was at play. I am not implying that it wasnt, though, it is likely the case being how carson handled the drama. Following the initial explosion over the drama, Carson dissappeared off of the internet for a while, and according to his friends, he was seeking mental help. Leading up to his return, he apologized to the people involved in private. Apparently the internet thinks that he owes them all an apology, which just isnt true, he apologized to the people that were directly affected by the situation. Would apologize to the entire school because you and another student got in some drama? No. People were also (and probably still are) trying to deny him any platform to return to, even threatening content creators who still followed him on twitter. He may have made mistakes but he did all he could to fix it and move on. He isnt trying to sweep it under the rug, he has been pretty self-aware of the issue (see his first Pokemon Mystery Dungeon stream), he just wants to move on. I know that this video is very old, probably made when the drama was still new, but I just wanted to voice my thoughts on everything that has transpired since then. Just know that I am not trying to defend his past actions by saying "CaRsOn DiDnT dO tHaT". I am just saying that the hateful, unforgiving responses to his attempts to make amends are not fair. I believe in second chances, and that people can change, we all should forgove carson, but that doesnt mean those things are forgotten.
